I got mine in about a week after ordering it, and got it installed same night. It’s a phenomenal unit, and has all the features that anyone could want plus some. My favorite feature or capability of the unit is its LTE. I pulled the SIM card out of my old iPad and stuck it in here and because I’m in the IT industry I connected a wireless keyboard w/ touchpad like a laptop has and it allows me to remotely support my clients while being out on the road without needing to break out a laptop, setup a hotspot, and all that mess. There are so many more great features that you covered here, but overall I would say to anyone considering the unit, stop hesitating and just get it. You will not regret it.
Wireless KB/Mouse is a great idea. Would be amazing if Forscan changes could be made directly from the head unit but unfortunately I believe the Android app doesn't support that.
So it means we need a sim card with data plan to support its android system including the google map and music/video streaming apps right ? Without the sim card and data plan we can only use either sync 3 or Android auto/car play ?

I ordered the 12.1 inch version for my Ford Edge and had mines installed last week and I love it. I got the 8GB Ram/128GB SSD and the unit is very snappy. Haven’t seen any lag what so ever. I primarily bought this unit for the wireless car play and Android auto. CarPlay starts up before I even get in the car when I remote start my vehicle. I’d highly recommend one of these units from this company if you have an older vehicle with smaller and older head units, totally worth every dollar.

So I finished the install today...pretty straight forward. There's been a bit of a learning curve working in the Android world coming from all apple stuff. I'm having some troubles customizing the home screen, The boot up screen and boot up animation. Also I'm having problems getting the unit to recognize where I live. It still thinks I'm in Canada...I could use some help with the programming aspect if you find the time to run through any of what I've mentioned. I LOVE your videos and totally stoked to have found your channel. Thank you.
I had the same issue. I think the settings for the location is under the radio settings. I cant remember but i will try to see if i can take a look when I get a chance. as far as the home screen and the boot up animation I had help from the guys in the F-150 Autotecpro forums. They will be able to help you better than I can with this kind of stuff.
Thanks. I've signed up on the forum you suggested. Just found out today I can't get a sim card. Went to my AT&T store and they say the IMEI number is for a 3G network. Reached out to AutoTech for help. Maybe I'm missing something or the person at AT&T didn't know.@@DeaninItYourself

Agree. My guess is that the head unit can only display the feed being fed to it by the OEM system. One thing they could address is the aspect ratio. The sync system is stretched vertically a bit.

Hey, great video, this is what I was looking for, I didnt wanna loose my Sync features. 2 questions for you. Does the Ford Pass still works ? I can start and lock/unlock my truck from my phone and also get diagnostics and GPS for where my truck is. Second question, does the TH-cam or any streaming app in Android works while driving ? Thanks for the great video. I’m wondering how much wider the screen is from left edge to right edge vs the stock screen. I realize it’s much larger vertically, but do we gain anything width wise; for example is the 360 camera view any larger than on the stock screen? It looks like it may actually be a touch smaller horizontally if looking at the distance from the edge of the vent to the edge of the actual screen.
Great video! I installed my unit yesterday with help from your installation video. I can't get my Google Maps to work without connecting to the internet or wireless CarPlay. Is there a trick to getting it to work? Do I need to be signed into a Google account? It just says no connection. I thought it would use the aftermarket GPS. Thanks!
Question... If you are streaming and/or navigating via the Radio and stop at a gas station. Will everything resume after getting back in and starting the truck again?
So just got mine awesome video by the way it definitely influenced me on getting it had to questions one I have not pulled off my screen protector it came with I kinda want to but I'm afraid of regretting it once I do what's your take does it look better and respond better without it and second are it able to control balance and fade on yours I cannot thank you so much in advance
you can remove the screen protector, it looks much clearer without it, i am trying to find an aftermarket screen protector that fits it perfectly, once i do I will let you know.

Thanks for all the info ! Question for you , did you have issues with the fitment? As in , did your clips click right away and nothing is lose ? I installed mine but the passenger side clips don't click and the climate control physical knobs move when I press any of the buttons. I took it all apart twice and re installed it , but no luck. I would like to see how you customized your Home Screen and added a pic of the truck on top. I’m stuck with factory Home Screen that has another country’s temperature in Celsius and I cannot figure out how to get rid of it or make,it my area temperature and stuck with the ugly color palette it comes with. I want to change the color scheme somehow but can’t figure it out. Your Home Screen is much cleaner and is something I’m trying to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated and keep,up the great work and content!

I saw the pattern you used but haven’t figured out how to transfer to the truck screen. Another question I forgot to ask, do you know the screen resolution? Let’s say you had a pic and wanted to transfer to the screen, what’s the best resolution to keep the image formatted correctly on the screen and keep as close to the right proportions as possible?
Excellent video ! How is the display quality ? Is it bright enough in sunlight ? Are the colors decent for playing video ? Does the unit disallow video if the vehicle is moving ? Can you see TPMS data on it ? Does the screen auto dim with the dash lights ? Do you see any issue with using one of these in a Superduty instead of an F150 ?
videos will work while moving, and the screen is bright enough for dayilght use, i am sure you can see TPMS date but i figure you would need some kind of bluetooth obd dongle attached , i am not sure though. I would check their website to see if they make one for the super duty
Absolutely excellent series of videos on the unit!! You answered all the questions I had going into purchasing this unit for my own truck. Curious, how does the wireless CarPlay work? Do you need a Sim card for it and how does the Sim card aspect work? Do you need to have a plan added onto your cell service for the separate Sim card?
wireless carplay does not need an additional sim it works with your existing SIM, you only need an additional sim to use the radios apps like youtube and the web etc. If you want these features just get any data only SIM, i bought one onlie through tello.com

I have one of these and it works just great. My only issue is getting a carrier to provide a SIM for the radio. I have AT&T for my family cell plan and they can't provide a SIM based on the IMEI number since it shows a not supported. What Carriers are being used to provide service?

anyone had any issues with the backup camera "no signal". Mine was working perfectly for months and now it says "no signal". Shop is telling me to install my factory back because the camera works perfectly with that head unit.
Great video! You just opened my eyes on something. I have an audio control 5 channel amp. Doesn't the audio outputs come from the sync module? I swear when I installed that the plug came from the back of the Sync module on the back. It's been a couple of years, so I'm trying to remember. I have my stock 8 inch SYNC head unit directly connected to my 5 channel amp. Are you saying I have have the LC7?
I think my audio control amp will work by itself. I think I know what you mean. Your amp needs rca inputs converted from the LC7 coming from the Sync outputs I should be good I think.

Installed mine and unfortunately, because I didn’t know, verizon does not recognize the IEMI for this unit. You can check to see if a carrier does recognize it by finding the IEMI in the settings, under SIM card. T-Mobile did recognize but I have yet to purchase.

Can you split 2 apps on the screen? Like having map on the top and spotify or TH-cam or something on the bottom? Like its android so you can do whatever and install apps to do so but im asking for out of the box settings, if radio itself giving that :p

Whats the mic quality like and does it have noise cancelation? A lot of this type of units that use their own cheap tiny mic tend to have horrible quality when in calls. Especially if you have a louder exhaust or interior. Im thinking about getting their version for thr mustang, thats the only thing stopping me from buying it. Because people can't hear me the best now with Fords mic with my exhaust in the back ground.😂
hi after your video and your recommendation i bought it for my 2020 ford expedition limited .. I install it but I face on problem the android system working fine but no sound like TH-cam phone and other apps ... sync 3 working perfect and the sound also works . any idea to fix the sound issue with android system thanks 😒
try switching to sync system and load a USB in the factory usb with an audio file then play the audio file, then switch back to the android system and try youtube again this may activate it. Does the audio play while you are using carplay?
Yes it does, but the GPS antenna and 4G LTE Antenna is for the android portion of the radio, the SYNC GPS will work on the factory Navigation, but if you want to use google maps of waze without carplay, you need to install the GPS
A question about Google Maps, I use it on my IPhone, I'm signed into my Google account so I see my saved favorite locations, on this system can you sign into your Google account, so your saved locations show up.
The phone works great if android auto is paired. But if I want to use my vehicle hot spot and run the tablet as an android device, what is the best location to pair up your phone for accepting phone calls? Existing sync or tablet bluetooth?
That’s a tricky one. To do it all you would need to use a SIM card. Once you use the WiFi to get data on the android you can’t pair the android auto at the same time. You can do Bluetooth but not android auto and WiFi at the same time.
Thanks, so I have my vehicle hotspot (through Ford App). So wifi is available at all times. Problem is when I try to pair the phone through bluetooth, it always wants to try to sync back up to the android auto. Also, I tried connecting my phone to the Ford sync bluetooth. It works fine until you power off the unit, and it loses connection every time. I would have to repair each time I got into the truck.
I really need some help, can this radio work is a standalone setup just like any aftermarket radio. I want to do a custom setup for a none syndic vehicle, a 1999 ford mustang. I am not concerned about the A/C, sirirus/xm/ steering wheel controls, I am not sure if the can bus will effect anything.

Hi. I am interested in getting this unit also for Christmas. I have a 2019 Lariat B&O but I've upgraded the amp/speakers with the Nav-TV ZenAudio A/B adapter (TOSLink output). It is connected to an AudioControl D-5.1300 amplifier with Focal 6x9 165FE speakers. So my question is can I use my existing ZEN-A2B amplifier replacement interface hardware with this unit with my existing Sync3? -Thanks great video. I will be using your videos to do my installation since I do all my mods myself.
How hard is it to hook up the audio control unit to this screen are we talking the remote turn on and rca s to the audio control unit, and that's it or do we pick up speaker +/- for imput to audio control unit.
Okay my only beef with this radio I can connect with Android auto wirelessly but I can't send text that way I still have to plug the phone in in order to send text by voice is there any other way around this? Also the weather apps seemed to be in Chinese what's that about

Hey there, I added nova launcher and I noticed that when I play any movies they are over sized. I've been unable to see any settings that fix it. Any help would be appreciated.
Just a quick question not sure if you’d know or not but is there a way to stop it from defaulting into the sync console app when I first start my truck? It seems to default there for the radio and then Ive gotta switch back to nova launcher! Great video!
i think if you go to the system syettings for the radio, there is an option to start a cretain app on bootup, make sure that you dont have the console app selected.

I installed the unit today and followed your instructions. I have a 2018 Ford Expedition. It starts up, but does not connect to sync3, bluetooth will not connect to my iphone and my reverse camera does not show up on the screen. I'm pretty sure all of the connections are secure. Should I do a reset?
Try a reset first, then check your connections and if it is still not working I would email customer support. they pre program the radios before they ship them so it could be a settings issue
Few questions. Thanks for the video. 1. Can you listen to regular FM radio on the android auto part of the unit or does the radio only work while your in the ford sync part of the unit. 2. If it radio does work. Can you listen to it while using google maps in android auto at the same time? 3. Does the voice activation for calls and other things work like normal woth phone. 4. You said it uses the factory mic? So there are no issues with background noise, echos, muffling, etc? 5.biggest thing is if im wondering if regular FM and andoid auto can be used at the same time. Like on the factory the directions will turn down the radio while it tells you where to go. Or if the voice guidance doesnt work can you still at use the radio and just have the directions on the screen silentyl? Let me know thank you!!

There is a radio app on the android portion but it doesnt work well, not sure if there is a better radio app to download so I just use radio on the sync portion. 2. you can listen to the radio while using google maps on the androir or even on the carplay. 3. The voice activatioon for calls work the same way as factory if you are using sync or wireless carplay, the only difference is if you try to use voice activation when you are on carplay it will think that you are srying to use sync. I spoke to the manufacuter about this so hopefullly a software update will fix this. to use voice activation in carplay i just hold the menu button and it activates siri. 4.No issues with background noise etc. 5. the radio and google maps on android work i dont remember if the maps guidance turns down the volume or not. I know it does when you are using radio and carplay.
I have the 12.1 unit in my 2020 F-150 and when it’s warm outside my screen cover comes off a little bit and also today my touchscreen stopped working. I’ve reset it like you show in your video and it still doesn’t work.
If you're not in Carplay/Android Auto mode, basically using the 'virtual but real sync3 interface', how would a passenger lower the volume given the volume knob is gone? I saw the option on the screen in the carplay screen, but not "console"
I wanted to ask I have a 2020 F150 V6 truck and I have a sync 3 system and have wired CarPlay only if I upgrade to this unit will I then have wireless Apple CarPlay or will it stay the way it was before ? It is currently working as wireless with the Ford sync setup but when it comes to Apple CarPlay, it only works with it being wired into the USB port. Let me know if it will work as a wireless Apple CarPlay set up with this upgraded system.

For an old 2017 f150 with only tiny screen and not much function at all, how does it work? You mentioned you can add side and multiple camera to it, but I don’t see any virile connectors for that

I'm adding this to my 17 f350,I have an audio control unit behind the dash I believe, that custom sounds put in, with the factory head unit, do I need to change anything or just put the plugs in the new unit as you showed in the first video, I have 2 amps 1 for mids an his, and one for the sub, sync3 system, I just don't wanna rip up the dash if it won't work, or if I need something else to make it work, I figured I'd just pull in and it should work, again running no factory power, two jl amps, and stock 8" screen.

Agree. My guess is that the head unit can only display the feed being fed to it by the OEM system. One thing they could address is the aspect ratio. The sync system is stretched vertically a bit.

Thanks for the great video. I’m wondering how much wider the screen is from left edge to right edge vs the stock screen. I realize it’s much larger vertically, but do we gain anything width wise; for example is the 360 camera view any larger than on the stock screen? It looks like it may actually be a touch smaller horizontally if looking at the distance from the edge of the vent to the edge of the actual screen.

Great video! I installed my unit yesterday with help from your installation video. I can't get my Google Maps to work without connecting to the internet or wireless CarPlay. Is there a trick to getting it to work? Do I need to be signed into a Google account? It just says no connection. I thought it would use the aftermarket GPS. Thanks!
google maps uses the internet. the factory installed GPS map uses gps

you can remove the screen protector, it looks much clearer without it, i am trying to find an aftermarket screen protector that fits it perfectly, once i do I will let you know.

Thanks for all the info ! Question for you , did you have issues with the fitment? As in , did your clips click right away and nothing is lose ? I installed mine but the passenger side clips don't click and the climate control physical knobs move when I press any of the buttons. I took it all apart twice and re installed it , but no luck. I would like to see how you customized your Home Screen and added a pic of the truck on top. I’m stuck with factory Home Screen that has another country’s temperature in Celsius and I cannot figure out how to get rid of it or make,it my area temperature and stuck with the ugly color palette it comes with. I want to change the color scheme somehow but can’t figure it out. Your Home Screen is much cleaner and is something I’m trying to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated and keep,up the great work and content!

I saw the pattern you used but haven’t figured out how to transfer to the truck screen. Another question I forgot to ask, do you know the screen resolution? Let’s say you had a pic and wanted to transfer to the screen, what’s the best resolution to keep the image formatted correctly on the screen and keep as close to the right proportions as possible?

Does the unit disallow video if the vehicle is moving ? Can you see TPMS data on it ? Does the screen auto dim with the dash lights ?
Do you see any issue with using one of these in a Superduty instead of an F150 ?
videos will work while moving, and the screen is bright enough for dayilght use, i am sure you can see TPMS date but i figure you would need some kind of bluetooth obd dongle attached , i am not sure though. I would check their website to see if they make one for the super duty
Absolutely excellent series of videos on the unit!! You answered all the questions I had going into purchasing this unit for my own truck. Curious, how does the wireless CarPlay work? Do you need a Sim card for it and how does the Sim card aspect work? Do you need to have a plan added onto your cell service for the separate Sim card?
wireless carplay does not need an additional sim it works with your existing SIM, you only need an additional sim to use the radios apps like youtube and the web etc. If you want these features just get any data only SIM, i bought one onlie through tello.com
Is there video outputs for rear seat monitors? will the radio provide a hot spot for other wireless devices when using the data sim card?
there are video outputs for real dvds. The SIM card wont provide a hot spot

I pull a 16k lbs 33’ trailer everyday and want to get some reverse/rear view cameras to easily integrate with the screen will this unit allow Bluetooth connectivity or wired connection to any caress and do you know which cameras may be the best option?
I am not sure about aftermarket cameras, maybe some one can comment on this if they have a reccomendation

I have one of these and it works just great. My only issue is getting a carrier to provide a SIM for the radio. I have AT&T for my family cell plan and they can't provide a SIM based on the IMEI number since it shows a not supported. What Carriers are being used to provide service?

anyone had any issues with the backup camera "no signal". Mine was working perfectly for months and now it says "no signal". Shop is telling me to install my factory back because the camera works perfectly with that head unit.
Great video! You just opened my eyes on something. I have an audio control 5 channel amp. Doesn't the audio outputs come from the sync module? I swear when I installed that the plug came from the back of the Sync module on the back. It's been a couple of years, so I'm trying to remember. I have my stock 8 inch SYNC head unit directly connected to my 5 channel amp. Are you saying I have have the LC7?
I think my audio control amp will work by itself. I think I know what you mean. Your amp needs rca inputs converted from the LC7 coming from the Sync outputs I should be good I think.

Yes it does, the brightness can be adjusted as well
Installed mine and unfortunately, because I didn’t know, verizon does not recognize the IEMI for this unit. You can check to see if a carrier does recognize it by finding the IEMI in the settings, under SIM card. T-Mobile did recognize but I have yet to purchase.

Whats the mic quality like and does it have noise cancelation? A lot of this type of units that use their own cheap tiny mic tend to have horrible quality when in calls. Especially if you have a louder exhaust or interior. Im thinking about getting their version for thr mustang, thats the only thing stopping me from buying it. Because people can't hear me the best now with Fords mic with my exhaust in the back ground.😂

try switching to sync system and load a USB in the factory usb with an audio file then play the audio file, then switch back to the android system and try youtube again this may activate it. Does the audio play while you are using carplay?

What is the purpose of the extra GPS antenna and the 4G LTE antennas? Doesn't Sync already have a GPS antenna feeding it's location?
Yes it does, but the GPS antenna and 4G LTE Antenna is for the android portion of the radio, the SYNC GPS will work on the factory Navigation, but if you want to use google maps of waze without carplay, you need to install the GPS
A question about Google Maps, I use it on my IPhone, I'm signed into my Google account so I see my saved favorite locations, on this system can you sign into your Google account, so your saved locations show up.

The phone works great if android auto is paired. But if I want to use my vehicle hot spot and run the tablet as an android device, what is the best location to pair up your phone for accepting phone calls? Existing sync or tablet bluetooth?
That’s a tricky one. To do it all you would need to use a SIM card. Once you use the WiFi to get data on the android you can’t pair the android auto at the same time. You can do Bluetooth but not android auto and WiFi at the same time.
Thanks, so I have my vehicle hotspot (through Ford App). So wifi is available at all times. Problem is when I try to pair the phone through bluetooth, it always wants to try to sync back up to the android auto. Also, I tried connecting my phone to the Ford sync bluetooth. It works fine until you power off the unit, and it loses connection every time. I would have to repair each time I got into the truck.
I really need some help, can this radio work is a standalone setup just like any aftermarket radio. I want to do a custom setup for a none syndic vehicle, a 1999 ford mustang. I am not concerned about the A/C, sirirus/xm/ steering wheel controls, I am not sure if the can bus will effect anything.

Hi. I am interested in getting this unit also for Christmas. I have a 2019 Lariat B&O but I've upgraded the amp/speakers with the Nav-TV ZenAudio A/B adapter (TOSLink output). It is connected to an AudioControl D-5.1300 amplifier with Focal 6x9 165FE speakers. So my question is can I use my existing ZEN-A2B amplifier replacement interface hardware with this unit with my existing Sync3? -Thanks great video. I will be using your videos to do my installation since I do all my mods myself.
How hard is it to hook up the audio control unit to this screen are we talking the remote turn on and rca s to the audio control unit, and that's it or do we pick up speaker +/- for imput to audio control unit.
Okay my only beef with this radio I can connect with Android auto wirelessly but I can't send text that way I still have to plug the phone in in order to send text by voice is there any other way around this? Also the weather apps seemed to be in Chinese what's that about

Hey there, I added nova launcher and I noticed that when I play any movies they are over sized. I've been unable to see any settings that fix it. Any help would be appreciated.
Just a quick question not sure if you’d know or not but is there a way to stop it from defaulting into the sync console app when I first start my truck? It seems to default there for the radio and then Ive gotta switch back to nova launcher! Great video!
i think if you go to the system syettings for the radio, there is an option to start a cretain app on bootup, make sure that you dont have the console app selected.

if you are running wireless carplay this will happen. disable wireless carplay and try
I installed the unit today and followed your instructions. I have a 2018 Ford Expedition. It starts up, but does not connect to sync3, bluetooth will not connect to my iphone and my reverse camera does not show up on the screen. I'm pretty sure all of the connections are secure. Should I do a reset?
Try a reset first, then check your connections and if it is still not working I would email customer support. they pre program the radios before they ship them so it could be a settings issue

1. Can you listen to regular FM radio on the android auto part of the unit or does the radio only work while your in the ford sync part of the unit.
2. If it radio does work. Can you listen to it while using google maps in android auto at the same time?
3. Does the voice activation for calls and other things work like normal woth phone.
4. You said it uses the factory mic? So there are no issues with background noise, echos, muffling, etc?
5.biggest thing is if im wondering if regular FM and andoid auto can be used at the same time. Like on the factory the directions will turn down the radio while it tells you where to go. Or if the voice guidance doesnt work can you still at use the radio and just have the directions on the screen silentyl?

1. There is a radio app on the android portion but it doesnt work well, not sure if there is a better radio app to download so I just use radio on the sync portion.
2. you can listen to the radio while using google maps on the androir or even on the carplay.
3. The voice activatioon for calls work the same way as factory if you are using sync or wireless carplay, the only difference is if you try to use voice activation when you are on carplay it will think that you are srying to use sync. I spoke to the manufacuter about this so hopefullly a software update will fix this. to use voice activation in carplay i just hold the menu button and it activates siri.

5. the radio and google maps on android work i dont remember if the maps guidance turns down the volume or not. I know it does when you are using radio and carplay.

I have the 12.1 unit in my 2020 F-150 and when it’s warm outside my screen cover comes off a little bit and also today my touchscreen stopped working. I’ve reset it like you show in your video and it still doesn’t work.
If you're not in Carplay/Android Auto mode, basically using the 'virtual but real sync3 interface', how would a passenger lower the volume given the volume knob is gone? I saw the option on the screen in the carplay screen, but not "console"

I wanted to ask I have a 2020 F150 V6 truck and I have a sync 3 system and have wired CarPlay only if I upgrade to this unit will I then have wireless Apple CarPlay or will it stay the way it was before ? It is currently working as wireless with the Ford sync setup but when it comes to Apple CarPlay, it only works with it being wired into the USB port. Let me know if it will work as a wireless Apple CarPlay set up with this upgraded system.

It replaces the 4” screen and there are connectors for aftermarket cameras included with the wire harness.

I'm adding this to my 17 f350,I have an audio control unit behind the dash I believe, that custom sounds put in, with the factory head unit, do I need to change anything or just put the plugs in the new unit as you showed in the first video, I have 2 amps 1 for mids an his, and one for the sub, sync3 system, I just don't wanna rip up the dash if it won't work, or if I need something else to make it work, I figured I'd just pull in and it should work, again running no factory power, two jl amps, and stock 8" screen.

I got a couple of questions. 1 I got a yulu big screen in my 18 f150, Problem I have with that is when I am wearing my shades I can hardly see the screen. Is that a problem with the autotech 14.4. 2 question can it boot up to the ford sync screen or does it only boots up to the android screen?
I am. It sure about the sunglasses question. But you can boot up the radio to any app. You can configure it to load the sync app on startup.
