I absolutely ❤️ prepaying my gratuities. It helps me budget for my spending money and knowing that when I get on the ship I don’t owe anyone any money.
Thanks for the tips. 💯 agree, keep eye on your tab. Our first cruise I believe was before being able to pay ahead, and/or we decided to pay at the end. EVERYTHING ADDS UP! When you are on a 10 day cruise, every little thing you buy, it adds up. We were WAY OVER BUDGET. I learned that the hard way too. After that, I check my balance everywhere I go. I’ll check when I’m at a hotel, especially when I go to Disney World. I like to keep an eye on my tab.

research, and that's where my life changed because I came across your channel, and you guys know me I am one of your biggest fans I just love your channel and love watching all of your videos, and you TH-cam Facebook and Instagram, and you know I was sick for a while, unfortunately that happens sometimes because I have sickle cell anemia, so thank God my energy has being a little bit better, I'm just sad that my cruise I was supposed to go on this summer on the Carnival Magic had to be cancelled, but to make up for 2020, I'm going on three cruises next year in 2021, and two of them are completely paid for already thank God, because I joined this invite-only Cruise travel agency membership, so you have to be invited by another member to join, you just can't go to the website and join, you have to be invited first, and I couldn't believe that I got a invite, and I love my membership, because now I'm able to go on at least two cruises a year instead of one, so I pay $100 every month and they matches my $100 every month so it becomes $200 every month, and I bet you're saying right about now, what's the catch, there's no catch but there is a limit on how much of your balance you can have access to in the beginning, so in the first year of your membership you can only access 60% of your balance, in the second year that changes to 70%, in the third years that changes to 80%, in the fourth year that changes to 90%, and of course in the fifth-year you are able to access 100% of your balance, and when you're ready to book a cruise you just go on their website, and you just book your cruise, and they have all the cruises from all the cruise lines from around the world, and the prices are the same as everywhere else, they even have world cruises that last anywhere from 1 month to 6 months, so I am in my third year of membership so I can access 80% of my balance, so since 2020 was a bust I'm going to make sure 2021 I go way out, so like I said earlier I use my membership balance to pay for two of my cruises in 2021, the first cruise is a special Cruise that I am going on with my oldest niece, and it will be just the two of us, I am taking her on a cruise for her 21st birthday and she will actually turn 21 on the cruise, so we will be going on the Carnival Horizon leaving from Port Miami on April 11th 2021, and of course since I'm taking my oldest niece, I also have to take my other niece on her own birthday cruise as well, so thank God I was able to access 80% of my balance so I was able to pay for this Cruise as well, so I am taking my other Even watch for price adjustments after you have paid the cruise in full. I know with carnival they will give you the price difference in on board credit. My first cruise cruise I got a total of $488 for my cabin in on board credit due to the price adjustments. #winning
Regina Rizer someone gave a great tip of not paying for all of your cruise until the last payment is due in case the price does go down because instead of on board credit you get to keep your actual money!
Kim B i think maybe a travel agent can help with that stuff, since they work pretty closely with the cruise lines and they usually monitor the prices. or so i’ve been told

I did my first cruise Oct' 19. I wish someone would have told me how relaxed it always is. Don't bother doing makeup and hair. Especially the hair. If you go on deck, which being up on deck in the sun is practically the best part, the wind is enough to blow the hair right out of your head...LOL. No one is paying attention to what you look like or what you are wearing. Just enjoy yourself and have fun.
I spent A LOT of time on youtube and websites before my first cruise and the "don't over pack" advice was everywhere! I love fashion and options! I over packed and I don't care :) I will always over pack! :)
I travel with a 19 inch pilot case that fits in the overhead bin, plus an overnight bag that goes under the seat in front of me. I've learned to roll all of my clothes which provides plenty of space for a week long cruise. On my cruise in January I didn't even wear all of my different clothes. Of course I don't need to change my clothes 3 times per day, either. I can also wear certain things more than once.

Great tips. I agree about how many trips my husband was stuck driving us places! No holiday for him. So now he loves cruising. Our 5th in 55 days! Packing we shared 1 carry on. 2 swimsuits 1 lightweight ankle pant, a black skirt, 2 sundresses. Tops to dress up or down the skirt/pant. Wear biggest shoe to board. 2 sandals, one day,one night. We had a tote for beach stuff. Also hubby is expert level packer. I tell him I'll set up a kiosk on board to make money from his skill!
That happened to us on our last cruise too! The cruise line must not put any money to pay the help with everyone paying 12.95 each ! I liked your idea of bringing a gift for the cabin steward because they work so hard, everyone does!
Your tips are very helpful and I have to say you are the cutest couple ! We have always done river cruising in Europe and truly love it. Taking our first big ship cruise on Celebrity Edge this winter.
Instead of getting the difference from the cruise line, I usually upgrade my room for no extra charge! :) For my Indy sailing in two weeks, I booked an inside, and noticed the price was the same (actually a few pennies under) so I upgraded to a higher floor in a balcony. (I love being higher on the ship)

I laughed at the "red tequila" My hubby learned something similar in Nassau, one of the "vendors" came up to him and put a necklace on him then proceeded to tell him how good it looked, hubby thanked them and then they wanted $$$$ and hubby said NO and they took the necklace off of him and went on to the next "bait" - I am always trying to tell people how fantastic cruising is, unpack once and see different places, no planning it is all done for you. My first ship was the Magic. I didn’t realize how big it was until we got off in the first port and I took a pic in front of the ship. I was hooked at that moment.
Just to clarify, you can have the gratuities removed. You don't HAVE to pay gratuities. Not saying you should or shouldn't remove them but it is a option
My Aunt and Uncle always go to guest services the first day and tell them to remove the automatic tips. Then they tip who they want to. I personally pay for tips before I go, then tip extra to my room steward and housekeeper at the end. If you buy the drink package you don't have to worry about tipping then, either (if a drink package is worth it for you, that is).

The Breakaway will be a wonderful time enjoy every minute...lotsa pictures too now....was on the sister ship.... the Getaway.....same huge ship....but never waited in any line...often felt the entire ship was yours....elevator tip one bell it is going up....two bells the car is going down.... And the fish in the hallway carpet is swimming words the front...bow of your ship....enjoy. 😉

Great Video. Folks, dont let the gratuities scare you. Every time you order a drink there is a auto gratuity of %15-%18 depending on the cruise line. For example, If you order a glass of wine ($10-12) the gratuity is $1.80. Now keep in mind that you dont have to tip extra. I always tip an extra $1 or 2 because those folks work hard and its not going to break your budget. Look at it this way; all of your meals are included in the cruise fare. If you actually had to pay for all the meals for a week it would be well over $1000.00. So paying %15 gratuities for each drink is great deal.

Lisa R ....be sure your young ones go meet new people so they make a new friend for the entire cruise....they will be happy and busy too....send them to the youth room first night is best...or as soon as you can once onboard...and remember do not over pack...wear something more than once...your not gonna see these people likely again....
You can also order an app served like an entree....or entree served as an appetizer.....take a peek at the young adult menu as well might find something you like in desserts too....
My husband and I were a couple days in before we realized that we could have whatever we want or even seconds in the MDR. It was nice to try new things too. I checked the other day on the prices of my cruise (going in August) and I got an $800 adjustment!

actually speaking about the over packing ....both luckily and unluckily for me i was homeless for a long time so i learned quickly how to pack light ...i wont have that issue on my first cruise
You guys are such a cute couple I look forward to every one of your videos! We never prepay the gratuities because we have a Royal Caribbean credit card that we earn free room credits from and use those to pay the gratuities with. We earned $450 in room credits for our next cruise on the Allure. That will cover the gratuities and who knows what else, the bar bill (we don't drink much), a massage, some photos whatever strikes our fancy. Already pre booked and pre paid for 3 specialty restaurants and pre booked our shows. Love that you can do everything online now instead of spending the first day on board running around booking all your stuff :-)

Hi. Guys. Here in Australia all cruises include gratuities in the fare, except a trans Pacific cruise and a world cruise. We tend to tip for good service in a restaurant and we round up the fare in a taxi. The exchange rate can be a shock when ships use A$ and not Au$ .
We will be heading on our 13th Cruise next month but our first Royal Caribbean cruise and we feel then it's our first cruise ever because we have no idea what to expect. Our first ever cruise was to Alaska on the Rhapsody which is in reality tiny by comparison, we spent the entirety approaching the port in the taxi in Seattle going "oh my god oh my god"....look at the size of it......the taxi driver was looking in his rear vison mirror thinking "really?.....but it was fun none the less. I remember waiting for the big "surge" when it left and as it turned out was that excited and preoccupied we were half way out of the harbour before I realised we had left...

Ha - our first cruise and first stop was also Progreso. Not what we had envisioned but now after cruising other times and seeing other ports, we enjoyed the authentic experience of it. Pretty sure we won’t go back there though 🙃
Some cruises out of Australia such as P&O Australia and Carnival and a few others, don't have gratuities since tipping isn't a thing in Australia. Some cruise's going out of Australia do have gratuities so it's best to do some research so you can budget correctly.
Fortunately, I prepaid my gratuities prior to sailing on my first cruise, because I happened to check my cruise account a few weeks before and saw it listed as a balance. I'm a planner and wanted as few surprises as possible. However, I still left my room steward a cash tip. He was too good not to. But I didn't realize I could order multiple items in the dining room until my second cruise. Sure wish I knew that sooner, with the appetizers. 😩 They are TINY on a cruise! Anyway, I've gotten better with not over packing, but am still a work in progress.🤷🏽♀️
I didn't know about the price adjustment either until I watched another TH-cam video about it. I booked & paid in full my cruise about 60 days out from sailing but the price still went down recently. I called Norwegian today & was surprised to find i got a free upgrade to a balcony cabin!!

We were new to tipping being Aussies as we generally don't do it here, and whilst our gratuities were built in we were tipping $1.00 a drink, and also paying our room steward etc daily but in essence all the cruises since we still do the same, I mean I don't really think anyone really understands the process but like Jase would rather over tip that under tip, we budget for it and happy to do so.
I love their energy too! The only thing that gets me is that he cuts her off when she is talking alot, and when she picks back up, she doesn't finish what she was intending to say. 🙄

Thanks, I'll be sharing this with my friends who are new to cruising (I'll be taking them along soon!). I don't wear watches either, and although I needed one when I was a zookeeper, I never wore one on my wrist because it'd get snagged on branches, cages, animals - it just annoyed me. I'd just put it through one of my belt loops and attach it that way - it was handy, but I didn't have to "wear" it.
I agree with ALL of these! Unfortunately on my last cruise, I had kidney stones and was stuck in medical the last two days! I'm still grieving over the shows it caused me and my husband to miss. 😢
On my 1st cruise I didn't know I could go to the dining room every evening for dinner I thought that it was only formal night that we could do the formal dining.... the whole cruise we only ate dinner at the buffet 😂😂😂 except for formal night, formal night I didn't even know where the dining room was

We have prepaid our gratuities, but how much extra do y’all suggest and who do we tip. We already plan on giving our steward a goody bag but would also like to give cash. TIA
It depends. If I get average service then what I prepaid is enough. If the steward really made an impression I give extra depending on the service. Last cruise I left $20 and a bottle of champagne :)
Our first cruise was Carnival Holiday and we thought it was a huge ship til we got to Cozumel and saw the HUGE ships. But we would get back in the Holiday again if we could.
Holland America is doing a pilot right now on some of their ships....extra charge in the MDR for a second main.. 😲. My parents are on one of those ships now....did not have the heart to tell them in advance. Always love these videos. Thanks!

Even watch for price adjustments after you have paid the cruise in full. I know with carnival they will give you the price difference in on board credit. My first cruise cruise I got a total of $488 for my cabin in on board credit due to the price adjustments. #winning
I was told on Royal that I can't get the price drop because I've made final payment. :(
Regina Rizer someone gave a great tip of not paying for all of your cruise until the last payment is due in case the price does go down because instead of on board credit you get to keep your actual money!

I did my first cruise Oct' 19. I wish someone would have told me how relaxed it always is. Don't bother doing makeup and hair. Especially the hair. If you go on deck, which being up on deck in the sun is practically the best part, the wind is enough to blow the hair right out of your head...LOL. No one is paying attention to what you look like or what you are wearing. Just enjoy yourself and have fun.

I travel with a 19 inch pilot case that fits in the overhead bin, plus an overnight bag that goes under the seat in front of me. I've learned to roll all of my clothes which provides plenty of space for a week long cruise. On my cruise in January I didn't even wear all of my different clothes. Of course I don't need to change my clothes 3 times per day, either. I can also wear certain things more than once.

Great tips. I agree about how many trips my husband was stuck driving us places! No holiday for him. So now he loves cruising. Our 5th in 55 days! Packing we shared 1 carry on. 2 swimsuits 1 lightweight ankle pant, a black skirt, 2 sundresses. Tops to dress up or down the skirt/pant. Wear biggest shoe to board. 2 sandals, one day,one night. We had a tote for beach stuff. Also hubby is expert level packer. I tell him I'll set up a kiosk on board to make money from his skill!
That happened to us on our last cruise too! The cruise line must not put any money to pay the help with everyone paying 12.95 each ! I liked your idea of bringing a gift for the cabin steward because they work so hard, everyone does!
Your tips are very helpful and I have to say you are the cutest couple ! We have always done river cruising in Europe and truly love it. Taking our first big ship cruise on Celebrity Edge this winter.
Instead of getting the difference from the cruise line, I usually upgrade my room for no extra charge! :) For my Indy sailing in two weeks, I booked an inside, and noticed the price was the same (actually a few pennies under) so I upgraded to a higher floor in a balcony. (I love being higher on the ship)

I laughed at the "red tequila" My hubby learned something similar in Nassau, one of the "vendors" came up to him and put a necklace on him then proceeded to tell him how good it looked, hubby thanked them and then they wanted $$$$ and hubby said NO and they took the necklace off of him and went on to the next "bait" - I am always trying to tell people how fantastic cruising is, unpack once and see different places, no planning it is all done for you. My first ship was the Magic. I didn’t realize how big it was until we got off in the first port and I took a pic in front of the ship. I was hooked at that moment.
Just to clarify, you can have the gratuities removed. You don't HAVE to pay gratuities. Not saying you should or shouldn't remove them but it is a option
My Aunt and Uncle always go to guest services the first day and tell them to remove the automatic tips. Then they tip who they want to. I personally pay for tips before I go, then tip extra to my room steward and housekeeper at the end. If you buy the drink package you don't have to worry about tipping then, either (if a drink package is worth it for you, that is).
And if you already tipped them all you can have them remove them too lol so you aren't doing double

The Breakaway will be a wonderful time enjoy every minute...lotsa pictures too now....was on the sister ship.... the Getaway.....same huge ship....but never waited in any line...often felt the entire ship was yours....elevator tip one bell it is going up....two bells the car is going down....
And the fish in the hallway carpet is swimming words the front...bow of your ship....enjoy. 😉

Great Video. Folks, dont let the gratuities scare you. Every time you order a drink there is a auto gratuity of %15-%18 depending on the cruise line. For example, If you order a glass of wine ($10-12) the gratuity is $1.80. Now keep in mind that you dont have to tip extra. I always tip an extra $1 or 2 because those folks work hard and its not going to break your budget. Look at it this way; all of your meals are included in the cruise fare. If you actually had to pay for all the meals for a week it would be well over $1000.00. So paying %15 gratuities for each drink is great deal.

Lisa R ....be sure your young ones go meet new people so they make a new friend for the entire cruise....they will be happy and busy too....send them to the youth room first night is best...or as soon as you can once onboard...and remember do not over pack...wear something more than once...your not gonna see these people likely again....

My husband and I were a couple days in before we realized that we could have whatever we want or even seconds in the MDR. It was nice to try new things too. I checked the other day on the prices of my cruise (going in August) and I got an $800 adjustment!

actually speaking about the over packing ....both luckily and unluckily for me i was homeless for a long time so i learned quickly how to pack light ...i wont have that issue on my first cruise

You guys are such a cute couple I look forward to every one of your videos! We never prepay the gratuities because we have a Royal Caribbean credit card that we earn free room credits from and use those to pay the gratuities with. We earned $450 in room credits for our next cruise on the Allure. That will cover the gratuities and who knows what else, the bar bill (we don't drink much), a massage, some photos whatever strikes our fancy. Already pre booked and pre paid for 3 specialty restaurants and pre booked our shows. Love that you can do everything online now instead of spending the first day on board running around booking all your stuff :-)

Hi. Guys. Here in Australia all cruises include gratuities in the fare, except a trans Pacific cruise and a world cruise. We tend to tip for good service in a restaurant and we round up the fare in a taxi. The exchange rate can be a shock when ships use A$ and not Au$ .
We will be heading on our 13th Cruise next month but our first Royal Caribbean cruise and we feel then it's our first cruise ever because we have no idea what to expect. Our first ever cruise was to Alaska on the Rhapsody which is in reality tiny by comparison, we spent the entirety approaching the port in the taxi in Seattle going "oh my god oh my god"....look at the size of it......the taxi driver was looking in his rear vison mirror thinking "really?.....but it was fun none the less. I remember waiting for the big "surge" when it left and as it turned out was that excited and preoccupied we were half way out of the harbour before I realised we had left...

Some cruises out of Australia such as P&O Australia and Carnival and a few others, don't have gratuities since tipping isn't a thing in Australia. Some cruise's going out of Australia do have gratuities so it's best to do some research so you can budget correctly.
Fortunately, I prepaid my gratuities prior to sailing on my first cruise, because I happened to check my cruise account a few weeks before and saw it listed as a balance. I'm a planner and wanted as few surprises as possible. However, I still left my room steward a cash tip. He was too good not to. But I didn't realize I could order multiple items in the dining room until my second cruise. Sure wish I knew that sooner, with the appetizers. 😩 They are TINY on a cruise! Anyway, I've gotten better with not over packing, but am still a work in progress.🤷🏽♀️

I didn't know about the price adjustment either until I watched another TH-cam video about it. I booked & paid in full my cruise about 60 days out from sailing but the price still went down recently. I called Norwegian today & was surprised to find i got a free upgrade to a balcony cabin!!

We were new to tipping being Aussies as we generally don't do it here, and whilst our gratuities were built in we were tipping $1.00 a drink, and also paying our room steward etc daily but in essence all the cruises since we still do the same, I mean I don't really think anyone really understands the process but like Jase would rather over tip that under tip, we budget for it and happy to do so.

I don't wear watches either, and although I needed one when I was a zookeeper, I never wore one on my wrist because it'd get snagged on branches, cages, animals - it just annoyed me. I'd just put it through one of my belt loops and attach it that way - it was handy, but I didn't have to "wear" it.

On my 1st cruise I didn't know I could go to the dining room every evening for dinner I thought that it was only formal night that we could do the formal dining.... the whole cruise we only ate dinner at the buffet 😂😂😂 except for formal night, formal night I didn't even know where the dining room was

It depends. If I get average service then what I prepaid is enough. If the steward really made an impression I give extra depending on the service. Last cruise I left $20 and a bottle of champagne :)

Our first cruise was Carnival Holiday and we thought it was a huge ship til we got to Cozumel and saw the HUGE ships. But we would get back in the Holiday again if we could.
My first cruise back in 1999 was on the Holiday as well. It looks a so little now! Believe it or not she still sailing over in the UK. :)
Keep checking price not just during the big sales saved $1000 on last cruise just checking everyday. But depends on sailing and full they are etc.
Holland America is doing a pilot right now on some of their ships....extra charge in the MDR for a second main.. 😲. My parents are on one of those ships now....did not have the heart to tell them in advance. Always love these videos. Thanks!
