Just got back from our Carnival Imagination cruise and we used several of your tips. It was very helpful information. We put fabric softener sheets in the luggage, brought lanyards, my mom put her shoes in shower caps, brought a highlighter to highlight best activities, she brought a shoe holder to hang on the door, she decorated our door, she brought a night light, brought a power strip for the plug, hand sanitizer, sunscreen, binoculars, my mom had the collapsible hamper, jackets, mug with lid etc.
In case my documentation (receipts, drivers license, passport, etc.) might get lost, seized, or destroyed, I scan my important documents and email them to myself. I can retrieve the images anywhere I can get to my email.
Make sure your kids have done all their homework before you leave your house. It makes the holiday so much more enjoyable for the whole family and makes it so that when you get back you aren’t frantically trying to get your children to do it the night you get back when you’re all tired and sad.

If you are planning on going on a cruise as part of your honeymoon, do NOT sign up for the cruise using your newly married name. This tip is specifically intended for the ladies that intend on taking their husband's name. This problem happens more times than you think. I actually witnessed a bride showing up in her wedding dress, after being married, and expecting that everyone will accept her passport with her maiden name. She made the cruise reservations using her married name. You CANNOT get a passport with your new married name until after you are married. Getting a new passport takes about a month. If you make cruise reservations with your newly married name and show up to the pier using a passport with your maiden name, you will not be allowed to get on the cruise ship. You will be turned away, and you will not be reimbursed or given a cruise credit because you were stupid.
Regarding required documentation each passenger must provide when checking in to travel, your passport has higher security/authority than your drivers license does, so in the event your drivers license is expired (or you forgot to bring it, or you lost it the day before), no worries at all, your valid passport’s an acceptable form of documentation to show proof of who you are (given it’s not expired, too)! Just know though, if you’re traveling to another country and plan on renting a vehicle, you’re out of luck without a valid drivers license (but if your spouses license is valid and available, the rental company will almost always accept it, even if you took a picture of it and it’s accessible from your mobile device).
We are going in Carnival Glory and I have only been on a couple of cruises but never had to be in charge of anything so now I'm having to put those big girl panties and im lost. So we need to go on line and set time we want to embark? Also we want to go to the beaches but not the high price excursions...can you tell us what are the best beaches in Cozumel..Belize...Mahagony Bay? We just want to take a taxi and get dropped off at a beach with beach chairs no resort.
Technically it is a Check In time, not a boarding time. I've seen posts online where people were mad because they didn't board at 12, which was their check in time.
The Sunshine is probably the best of all the Carnival cruise's we've been on .We are booking another for early spring. The cruise director was the best we've ever had. Enjoy!

Hi Laurence! The Dream was a fantastic ship, we had a wonderful time! We normally prebook the excursions so we can take our time at home to research them and not spend time on our cruise waiting in line to book them. What ports are you going to? I can try to give you some ideas!

Regarding birth certificates.. it mentions we can bring a photo copy of the original. Do I need to get a copy from the place that issues them? Or can I make a copy? And if so, do I bring the original as well and keep it in the safe? Any tips?
Awesome and VERY informative video. A few more tips: 1. Book your shore excursions ahead of time. They are usually cheaper and they're less likely to be sold out. If you book through the cruise line you have the security of knowing it's the cruise lines problem not yours if anything happens and you're late getting back to the ship. The ship either has to wait for you or fly the passengers to the next port. (Another reason to HAVE A PASSPORT for EVERYONE in your party even if it's not required to board). 2. Make sure your boarding documents are in your carry on not your checked luggage. 3. Wear a watch and keep it set according to ship time NOT port time. They are not always the same and people have been left in port because of this. You don't want to be one. Your cellphone may not have the right time in a foreign country either especially if you don't have data.

I'm going on my first cruise in my life and I'm 51. We are going on a transatlantic cruise with Norwegian and I'm so excited, but so nervous at the same time. My biggest adventures have been so far have been hunting/fishing/camping in Northern Maine, sooooo pretty tame compared to this. You guys are so helpful. Thank you so much for taking the time to do all this. You are so helpful... :)
One thing I did learn from a recent trip to Australia is that you can use a power adapter for the other plug, I think most ships use a European plug. The one I bought has changeable interfaces for differing countries, once plugged in, it gives you two additional US outlets and two USB ports. Keep in mind this is still 220 volts so you can't plug just anything into it. It is fine for most electronic items like computer chargers which are designed now for a range of voltages. Make sure you check the specs, they are usually printed (in very small print) on the bottom of the computer or the charging block, it might say something like 110-220V. It will likely be a bad idea to plug something like a fan or hair dryer into it! I have also found on several ships there is an extra US outlet behind the TV. Keep up the great work. We are more fans of NCL so were glad to see your Bliss videos as we will be on it next April as it heads back to Seattle.
I wanted to let you know I just found your TH-cam channel 2 days ago and I'm planning my trip with my fiance for our honeymoon when we get married in 2 years and we're going on Carnival we will be sailing out of Galveston in August and I got to tell you I love your videos you guys have given me some insights because I'm planning the whole thing and you guys have given me inside I have Pages upon Pages just from your videos of what to take how to pack what to do before the crude what to do when you're on the cruise I mean I just want to thank you because I would have been lost I have been on cruises before but that was when I was a kid and I never planned any of it and I don't remember half of what we did or even with the cruise that wasn't entailed so thank you thank you thank you and I'm hoping since I live in Oklahoma if you guys cruise out of Galveston that you gave live close to me I'm hoping one day maybe we can all be in a cruise and we can all meet cuz you seem like a terrific couple and would love to meet you both.
Notify one of your neighbors that you are going to be out of town. Notify your home alarm company that you want them to call your neighbor rather than calling the house. Make sure that you provide your pet sitter with a separate alarm code, so that you can remove the code when you get home. Stop the mail and the newspaper. Having newspapers stack up on your front door makes it obvious that your not home. It is so obvious that you are out of town if your garbage can is still sitting out on the curb 3 days after its been emptied.
Enjoy your video's, I have been on Carnival and enjoyed, but your video told me some things I didn't know about. Thanks. PS, your luggage won't be at your cabin right away, so we usually go to lunch on deck before leaving port. By the time we are done, luggage is outside our cabin door. The first time this happened, (no bags) I was in a panic. Don't be, they will get there. Bags not arriving I think is rare. At least I haven't talked to anyone who didn't get their bags. Cruises are wonderful!

Thanks Brandy, you are so sweet! Allianz is the company I mentioned. They were half of what Carnival charges and you can add coverages for flights too.
Is Carnival's vacation protection the same as insurance? I'm thinking about purchasing Allianz, and want to know if I need to opt out of that coverage and have it removed from my cruise charges.
Yes, it is their own insurance. Read the benefits of both but I can tell you Allianz can cover pre and post cruise hotel stays and flights. If you want to remove it must be done before your final payment date. Hope this helps!

As far as not over-packing, we will struggle as our cruise will be 16 nights from Los Angeles to South America. Celebrity doesn't have laundry machines. That's a lot of dirty clothes for a mesh hamper. We might have to splurge on having the crew charge me up the nose for laundering piece by piece. At least a few pieces. Your videos are really helpful and fun!
I have been binge watching your channel - really enjoy your videos. My 11 year old daughter gets a kick out of your kiddos. Just as a FYI - Royal Caribbean and Celebrity do not have laundry rooms for the public. :-)

my cruise is July 1st from San Juan and we are flying in the morning( we leave Fort Lauderdale around 10/10:30am so we should reach about 12/1pm) of because the cruise departs at around 10 at night. I pack 3 times..seems to be the charm for me .. I usually dont forget anything but this yr 2018 i did forget one thing..it was a peticoat that i had mended..didnt realize it wasnt in the case until i got on the ship and went to wear a dress that needed one lol..as for suitcases being able to be spotted.. ive done well there.. Had a bright pink one yr and put my own jewellery around the handle ..No other case was like it.. Next yr a floral number ..again no others like it and this time was the same..A mint green number with indented pattern and again none like it.. So this girl got that spot on :)

The carnival site says your door decoration has to be fire retardant, do you do this? How? Have you had any taken down?

Regarding birth certificates.. it mentions we can bring a photo copy of the original. Do I need to get a copy from the place that issues them? Or can I make a copy? And if so, do I bring the original as well and keep it in the safe? Any tips?
We always bring the original BC with us.
Awesome and VERY informative video. A few more tips:
1. Book your shore excursions ahead of time. They are usually cheaper and they're less likely to be sold out. If you book through the cruise line you have the security of knowing it's the cruise lines problem not yours if anything happens and you're late getting back to the ship. The ship either has to wait for you or fly the passengers to the next port. (Another reason to HAVE A PASSPORT for EVERYONE in your party even if it's not required to board).
2. Make sure your boarding documents are in your carry on not your checked luggage.
3. Wear a watch and keep it set according to ship time NOT port time. They are not always the same and people have been left in port because of this. You don't want to be one. Your cellphone may not have the right time in a foreign country either especially if you don't have data.

I'm going on my first cruise in my life and I'm 51. We are going on a transatlantic cruise with Norwegian and I'm so excited, but so nervous at the same time. My biggest adventures have been so far have been hunting/fishing/camping in Northern Maine, sooooo pretty tame compared to this. You guys are so helpful. Thank you so much for taking the time to do all this. You are so helpful... :)
One thing I did learn from a recent trip to Australia is that you can use a power adapter for the other plug, I think most ships use a European plug. The one I bought has changeable interfaces for differing countries, once plugged in, it gives you two additional US outlets and two USB ports. Keep in mind this is still 220 volts so you can't plug just anything into it. It is fine for most electronic items like computer chargers which are designed now for a range of voltages. Make sure you check the specs, they are usually printed (in very small print) on the bottom of the computer or the charging block, it might say something like 110-220V. It will likely be a bad idea to plug something like a fan or hair dryer into it! I have also found on several ships there is an extra US outlet behind the TV. Keep up the great work. We are more fans of NCL so were glad to see your Bliss videos as we will be on it next April as it heads back to Seattle.

Notify your home alarm company that you want them to call your neighbor rather than calling the house.
Make sure that you provide your pet sitter with a separate alarm code, so that you can remove the code when you get home.
Stop the mail and the newspaper.
Having newspapers stack up on your front door makes it obvious that your not home.
It is so obvious that you are out of town if your garbage can is still sitting out on the curb 3 days after its been emptied.

Enjoy your video's, I have been on Carnival and enjoyed, but your video told me some things I didn't know about. Thanks. PS, your luggage won't be at your cabin right away, so we usually go to lunch on deck before leaving port. By the time we are done, luggage is outside our cabin door. The first time this happened, (no bags) I was in a panic. Don't be, they will get there. Bags not arriving I think is rare. At least I haven't talked to anyone who didn't get their bags. Cruises are wonderful!
So glad you are enjoying the videos! We have started carrying on our luggage and have been lucky enough all but once to be able to drop in straight in the room. I agree, cruises are wonderful!

Hi Maria! All of the parking has a shuttle. We normally do not park at the port parking as there are privately owned lots that are much cheaper.

Yes, it is their own insurance. Read the benefits of both but I can tell you Allianz can cover pre and post cruise hotel stays and flights. If you want to remove it must be done before your final payment date. Hope this helps!

How do you get insurance through a 3rd party
My husband and I want to buy a pair of walkie-talkies so we can find each other easier. Do you think this would work? I am directionally impaired, lol, and we feel this would alleviate my anxieties. Any thoughts?
As far as not over-packing, we will struggle as our cruise will be 16 nights from Los Angeles to South America. Celebrity doesn't have laundry machines. That's a lot of dirty clothes for a mesh hamper. We might have to splurge on having the crew charge me up the nose for laundering piece by piece. At least a few pieces. Your videos are really helpful and fun!
I have been binge watching your channel - really enjoy your videos. My 11 year old daughter gets a kick out of your kiddos. Just as a FYI - Royal Caribbean and Celebrity do not have laundry rooms for the public. :-)

I have been in very active groups before and boring groups. The group for my NCL cruise only has about 100 members are there are very few posts.
my cruise is July 1st from San Juan and we are flying in the morning( we leave Fort Lauderdale around 10/10:30am so we should reach about 12/1pm) of because the cruise departs at around 10 at night. I pack 3 times..seems to be the charm for me .. I usually dont forget anything but this yr 2018 i did forget one thing..it was a peticoat that i had mended..didnt realize it wasnt in the case until i got on the ship and went to wear a dress that needed one lol..as for suitcases being able to be spotted.. ive done well there.. Had a bright pink one yr and put my own jewellery around the handle ..No other case was like it.. Next yr a floral number ..again no others like it and this time was the same..A mint green number with indented pattern and again none like it.. So this girl got that spot on :)
