YAY i finally got 100th like on something!
And yes. It is really difficult. A lot of the time you feel very alone and emotional when going through a tic attack or period where you have a lot of tics. I have a really amazing friend though who stays with me when I'm going through that. She asks me if I'm okay and holds my hand, and it feels really nice to just have somebody with me that cares about me. She also has helped me before with social issues and understanding how people feel about me (that's something I've always been really worried about, because I have social anxiety and autism as well). It's a lot easier with somebody by your side who cares about you and who helps you.

it’s really hard for me to see you fighting the tic attacks.
It was honestly my first time hearing about tics and also my first time to see what tics actually look like. the fact that you have to be in an empty room so you can control yourself and fight it.
it must be really hard for you to deal with this every single day but thank you so much for posting and showing the society about disabled people’s daily life struggles

I don’t know why but my body instantly reacts when someone talks about mental disorders and Tourette’s or tics because my body kind of forgets I have them some of the time and when a topic of Tourette’s tic’s or mental disorders comes up my body remembers then I start jerking my head back and everything-

My girlfriend has Tourettes too and I find it really interesting how the pitch curve for your "I don't like you" tic is exactly the same as for her "I hate you" one.
(Though she only generally gets "I hate you" with people she likes rather than when she's on her own. So sometimes I reply to it with "love you too honey 😊"; sometimes responding to them can help disrupt the flow and break her out of it.)
I've recently been getting her to try using my spare wheelchair for her pain, balance, and yeah for bad tic days. Thankfully she already knew some other ppl with Tourettes who used a wheelchair for it, but was still on the "but I'm not -that- bad" train until she met me in my chair.

I feel ya! ❤ i only have one tic but it definitely limits my breathing and makes it hard to swallow food and drinks. It also makes me constantly interrupt myself in conversations so I often can’t finish sentences or simply get too tired and stop talking altogether . I see you girl! ❤ you’re so cool for just carrying on with your studies and stuff despite your tics etc. You seem like such a cool person as well! 🎉❤ and yea it’s interesting how no day is like the other - I can go a couple of days sometimes hardly noticing my tics (or not being bothered by them/not having them) but then I’ll get a whole week filled with tics to the point where I literally can’t breathe. And then I wake up and it’s just not there. Next day it’s back again. So strange 😅

I have a very special place in my heart for others with Tourette’s, my cousin has it and was made fun of growing up for his serious uncontrollable tics and it would break my heart as a child watching others make fun of him when he was already struggling to just exist and get through the day. I got sent to the office several times as a child for punching others for bullying my precious little cousin lol… nothing angered me more than the bullies. To this day he’s one of the best and kindest people I know. Be kind guys. Even if you don’t understand it or can’t relate to it, be kind. These people are so beautiful and they may respond differently at times than others but they are just like the rest of us. Their daily lives are so much harder than you’ll ever know. Be grateful you don’t have to know what it’s like. But be respectful, always. Be accommodating with no judgements. Have a heart. Have compassion. Be supportive. Thank you Zara for sharing this with the world. ❤

Sheesh, for me it is like I become allergic to everything around me(which I do have a lot of allergies but magnified in these moments) scents, lights, noise, touch, pure overload and dissociation. I hid myself away, didn't know how to explain it and feared being locked up and drugged. So tired from decades of masking. Thanks to the new generation the invisible is becoming visible. I don’t know what it’s like to have in voluntary movements like that, but I do have to say it’s nice to know that verbal tics are seemingly affected by what content one consumes given that one of them seemed to be based off of that one meme that goes “I like you, have a cupcake! I like you have a cupcake!…..eeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh- I like you, have a cupcake!” But memes aside this doesn’t seem fun and I wish there was a way for you to get better. I used to have a tic where I would flinch, twitch my neck and sometimes lock up. I’m glad it wasn’t very severe but it was an every 30 second kind of thing and it was SOO annoying! I eventually got over it by trying not to think about it. I still do it sometimes and I’ve developed more tics but thankfully it’s not as bad as those. I don’t know what it is because I’ve never been diagnosed and I’m 12 years old, so I hope they don’t get worse eventually. I hope you get over hard times! You’re doing well ❤

Oh man, that sounds hard! I know Tourette's can act up when nervous, but I've never seen one this bad. I had a student with Tourette's once but it was only noticeable one time during our entire semester and that lasted maybe a millisecond. She didn't end up needing accommodations but made sure to approach me at the beginning of the semester to make sure I was aware. A question for you though, can you feel the tics coming or does it typically take you by surprise? I see you're wearing a badge and I guess that reminded me of the days I worked in a lab and it just occurred to me that working in a lab would literally be unsafe if you have zero warning before your tics. I can imagine being a doctor would also be tricky.

for the doctor thing, it depends on the person :)
socialising as a doctor in formal settings would be difficult i'd imagine, but i know people who are tattoo artists and doctors etc who do have tourettes! concentration can make tics lessen and go away so doing surgery for example could actually focus so much the tics go away for some people
but for me, no haha i definitely couldn't!
and with feeling the tics coming, i can a lot of the time feel a physical feeling in the body part the tic will be in (just beforehand) and if it's a vocal tic, in my throat. but there are also tics which just come from "nowhere" and completely surprise me. i don't know what i say before it comes out, even if i feel it coming as a physical feeling

This happens to me and it’s really painful cause my neck flings forward and backwards and it rlly hurts and the sad thing is that none of my teachers know I have Tourette’s so they can’t help me if they don’t know and the worst part is that I’m young to be dealing with this ( diagnosed at 9 years old / two years ago) and I have jumping tics since I was 7 wich really annoys me and sometimes I hit myself really hard and my friend in maths started making fun of me so she started hitting herself while laughing and that really took a toll on me so I didn’t go to school for 2 days cause I was scared to be made fun off again. 😢

Stay brave and know that the ones who make fun have no idea what it is like to be you. They will learn as they grow too. You just keep being awesome you and talk to others that do understand. No more hiding as we all have struggles and need support. Talk to your parents, counselor or a trusted teacher and say how you feel for true. There is help and people do care!

I have text too, but I don’t have Tourette’s syndrome, but I have had mild tics from turning my neck to not being able to speak and taking 20 minutes to get out one word. It’s a very painful I’m sure you feel trapped in that room wherever you are. I would wanna go back to my dorm room. I’m so sorry you have to go through this you’re not alone

OMG. Exams can trigger disorders so bad. I have chronic OCD and after and during exams it flares up and feels like torture. I’ve failed a lot of exams because of this and sprained my wrist once bc of it. I relate to the exams triggering symptoms thing so much.
