I have a question : in your dreams, do you tic or have fnd symptoms?? I have fnd and it sometimes affects my dreams, just wanted to know about you (ps love the content and disability awareness ❤)
Do you ever have "written" tics when typing? I don't have tourettes or any ticcing disorder afaik, but I have always had this thing where I will just start typing vulgar/dirty stuff when taking notes or writing documentation. (goes down a google rabbit hole and discovers "coprographia" exists) I'm not sure if it qualifies as a tic, but I have often worried about forgetting to delete it in emails or code commits or other "permanent" things that could ruin my day. It is like it just pops out whenever my mind wanders when writing, or when I forget what I was going to say mid sentence, or otherwise get stuck. I've done it as long as I can remember, but I have always been able to repress it whenever I'm not alone (thankfully). I do have mild motor tics (neck twitching and sniffing), but only really noticed them as such after stumbling onto your channel. I have ADHD, and my motor tics only really show up when I'm bored or anxious (or both, lol). I can also suppress them most of the time, but when I'm bored it's just a matter of time 😂. It was weird feeling a sense of understanding when I first watched your videos, and I can see how seeing tics could easily set off tics. I've learned a lot about Tourette's from your channel, and a bit about myself, too. Thanks for putting out the interesting and educational content :)
Do your tics trigger seizures when they are at a peak like this? Also was that whole bit where you talk about God being an it and not a he or a she a tic because that’s was pretty complex.
sometimes tic attacks do trigger seizures! tiredness is a big FND trigger, so tics tire me out and FND kicks in and shuts my body off oh, and - the god conversation was just me, i'm not sure why i was so disjointed speaking though 🤣
Hi Zara, I have Tourette’s as well when I was 12 I started swearing at my teacher unexpectedly, so that night I went to the doctors and I was diagnosed with Tourette’s and I was shocked. I’m 19 now and my tics are still quite bad sometimes I have a necklace with a teddy and fidgets on it (a bit like your one). I love your content and what does it matter that you don’t post videos as quick as long as you post that all that matters.
Congrats on your diagnosis and answers, I mean this in the nicest way, but neurologists should not diagnose Tourettes until you’ve had both vocal and motor tics for longer than one year, and do blood tests and examinations to ensure it isn’t caused by something else.
I’m not sure I believe this story, because the criteria for being diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome is you must have at least two motor tics and at least one vocal tics, and the tics must be consistent for over a year. You can’t just go to the doctor and get diagnosed after involuntarily cussing one day. Plus, before getting a diagnosis, they must perform blood tests and brain scans to determine if it is perhaps not Tourette Syndrome, and instead a different thing.
Hey Zara thank you for your videos. I don't know anyone with Tourette's but it's really interesting to learn about it, I'm also neuro divergent and your positive vision of life is really inspiring. I had a question during this video, when you ticked "i'm spiderman" : do you sometimes tic secrets, like things you would keep for yourself but it gets revealed by ticking, or is it just as you said in another video, like a random speech of subconcious ? Hi Zara! First, love your content! As a fellow neurodivergent, I really appreciate your constant efforts to spread awareness. Second, I am writing a novel right now and one of my main characters has Tourettes. It's very important to me to write her condition realistically and respectfully, and I was wondering if you have any tips?
I have some tips! (coming from my own experience) Keep the tics consistent, but not non-stop. Tics do waver at points. When experiencing any strong emotion, tics get worse, especially in stressful situations and when uncomfortable. Tics may also be repetitive. Sometimes, a certain tic happens multiple times or is just very repetitive throughout the day. Tics do sometimes interrupt your sentences, but also can stop during a sentence. When you are very focused, tics become reduced or stop entirely. Thats just a little explanation, please do ask if there is anything you would like to know!
@@Therian_Paws_ Wow, thank you so much! Is there like a sensation or any other kind of forewarning before a tic? I seem to remember hearing that but haven't found anything about it in my research. If so, what does it feel like and does it fluctuate?
@@jessica_bishop There is something called a premonitory urge, and its when tension builds up where you are about to tic. Its a very uncomfortable sensation, and you can suppress it. Large tics aren’t always aboe to be suppressed, but little ones can. Here is a quite a lot of information to take hold of: When you suppress a tic, it is very similar to a sneeze. You can hold back the sneeze, but its very uncomfortable and keeps trying to come out. Eventually, it comes out anyway. Thats how suppressing a tic works. When you do suppress a tic, it causes more, but they are usually smaller. You can also make your vocal tics quieter, but that also causes more frequent tics. I hope this helps, and remember, please don’t be afraid to ask questions! I would love to help you in the novel you are writing!
is tourette’s always genetic? i am looking for answers for my tics but there is not diagnosis that fits my criteria (no one in my family has tourette’s)

It may sound like a dumb question… but can you tick in your sleep? I only ask because we can sleep walk so there may be a possibility for ticks…. Right?
I am quite curious, what makes a vocal tic a vocal tic? I would ask google, but I'm sure I'll ask a more experienced community. Does whistling count as a vocal tic?
@@charlotteeee3854you would think it doesnt but it is counted as a vocal tic! Along with grunting, mouth pops and the like, and not all of those include actively using vocal chords which makes it seem confusing
@@reunitingetal1327 That's a good point, I guess since it makes a sound regardless it's a vocal tic😂 I literally have Tourette's Syndrome yet I couldn't really classify them!😅
I have a question... I know that every person is different and that not everyone with Tourette's swears, but if you do have coprolalia but don't know swear words or anything rude or inappropriate do you still swear even if you don't know any or is it just something your brain automatically knows? @@jessica_bishop Alright, I’m honored to have been able to give you tips!
Is the spider-man tic new?
i've had it for about a year 😂 it's still going strong, but hasn't made it into videos yet
is tourette’s always genetic? i am looking for answers for my tics but there is not diagnosis that fits my criteria (no one in my family has tourette’s)
Can tics be emotional and mentally and physically??? Does some tics hurt? I like to learn new things and I don't mean to be rude. But want learn more bout it.
R the heart stopper books the background (I luv them)
heck yes they are!!
It may sound like a dumb question… but can you tick in your sleep? I only ask because we can sleep walk so there may be a possibility for ticks…. Right?
Does it hurt to have tics?
I am quite curious, what makes a vocal tic a vocal tic? I would ask google, but I'm sure I'll ask a more experienced community. Does whistling count as a vocal tic?
I'm sure this is some other videos, I have yet to catch up on.
Vocal tics involve using the vocal chords, so I'm really not sure if whistling counts as motor or vocal😂
Depends on who you ask, some say it’s both, but it is considered a vocal tic as it makes sounds with your mouth
@@charlotteeee3854you would think it doesnt but it is counted as a vocal tic! Along with grunting, mouth pops and the like, and not all of those include actively using vocal chords which makes it seem confusing
@@reunitingetal1327 That's a good point, I guess since it makes a sound regardless it's a vocal tic😂 I literally have Tourette's Syndrome yet I couldn't really classify them!😅
Hi i also have Tourette's and i would like to know what is the one most funniest thing your Tourette's made you say
Hello I’m just wondering have you ever crashed because if your tics not hating your amazing hopefully no thing bad ever happens to you 😊❤

Hiiii!
I have a question... I know that every person is different and that not everyone with Tourette's swears, but if you do have coprolalia but don't know swear words or anything rude or inappropriate do you still swear even if you don't know any or is it just something your brain automatically knows?
(Did i phrase that right, does it make sense? sorry if that was offensive, as always, im not trying to offend anyone so i apologise if i did)
