Thoth is super special to me because when I first got into tarot I got the rider Waite and it just wasn’t clicking for me so I switched to thoth and I was able to really get into reading.❤ rider Waite is ok but thoth will always be my favorite system 💕
@@theOasisSeTarot thank you for asking. I received a Portuguese deck that is all Spanish. As I took to labeling through research each card and the glyphs involved, I had to put them down for a spell.😉
Would you make a series and do a deep dive into each cards in the Thoth deck? I really like your teaching style and I feel you take a lot of stigma off the Thoth deck. I just purchased a mini Thoth deck from Amazon which will be arriving tomorrow. I’ve been really hesitant to own this deck that is why I got the small version. I would definitely like to hear take on each of the cards.
To fully contemplate the Thot with all its rich symbolism, I would recommend to get the Large version 14 x 9.5 cm. Aleister Crowley and Lady Frieda Harris met in 1937. She later became Crowley's student, collaborator, benefactor, artist, and towards the end of his life, caretaker and one of the executors of his will. Lady Harris suggested that they should collaborate on creating a tarot deck similar to the Golden Dawn attributions. She was familiar with the teachings of Rudolf Steiner. In 1938, at the outbreak of WW2, Lady Harris was engaged by Crowley to paint the 78 cards. She suggested that Crowley use his lifetime's worth of study and experience to create the essence of the cards. Lady Harris was about 60 years of age at the beginning of the project, which was initially planned to last 6 months. However, due to both of them being inherent perfectionists, plus various challenges brought by the war, the project took 5 years to complete. Lady Frieda Harris had to paint up to 8 different versions of certain cards because of Aleister's painstaking demands. He wrote later on about their Thot Tarot: " It is the vindication of my life's work for the last 44 years, and will be the Compass of Power of the good ship Magick for the next 2 000 years" (Aeon). The BOOK of Thot was first published in 1944 but neither Aleister Crowley nor Lady Frieda Harris lived to see their beloved deck in print. The deck was finally produced in full colour in 1969 by Grady Louis McMurtry in collaboration with Samuel Weiser. Hence I would recommend to include an expression of profound Gratitude and Respect to both creators of the Thot Tarot in your opening ritual prior to perform a reading, or every time you handle this deck to study. It elevates the energies in my humble opinion.
Aww thank You! I am going to start a series with a deep dive of each card - one video per card. Hopefully, I will have the first up in another week or so. ❤️❤️❤️
I love this video! I’m a thelemite who loves the Thoth deck and this just sold me on Surfers Paradise. One thing to note though…. That’s not Isis and Osiris on the aeon card. It’s Nuit, Hadit, and Horus as the duel God in both his forms. Ra-hoor-khuit is the seated figure in the background and represents Horus as the elder, extroverted leader. Hoor Pa Kraat is the figure as Horus the child- introverted, innocent, and unprepared to lead. It’s an important distinction to note. Thank you for the beautiful video! 93
You’re welcome. That is so exciting! I hope it wasn’t too rushed. I ended up having to make an outline to try to stick to my main points because I kept going off on tangents and the video was so long. ❤️
I would like to buy my first deck and after looking at different type of decks I realized I love the Toth the best, it seems to most "natural" to me and it's beautiful too. However, I am not sure which one to buy of the toth decks, there are way too many and I know almost nothing about card quality. Can you please help me which one to buy as a first deck? I don't care about size, I would prefer larger maybe :) Thank you for the video, it's great knowledge! I love the deck on the right side with black background. Very different but also very beautiful.
I apologize for taking so long to reply. If you are still looking, I highly recommend the original Thoth tarot like this one: amzn.to/4f11SmU. (That is an associate’s link and you definitely don’t need to use it - I just can’t do a regular link anymore. LOL. It gives me a few cents if you purchase from it but you can just Google Thoth tarot and use the link to check the images.) You’re welcome. Let me know what you end up (or ended up) getting. I really am starting my Thoth series this week - it will focus on one card per video with a deep dive into each and comparing and contrasting them with other Thoth-based decks as well as RWS.
what about Tabula Mundi Tarot: color version? Many folks are saying it is an amazing Thoth inspired deck & GB and that the author is very grounded and down to earth- curious what you think? Do you have that deck?
I do have it and the quality is fabulous. It just doesn’t feel the same for me. A few of the cards just don’t mesh well for me either. But this is just my personal thing. Many adore the deck. I have set it aside for now. I haven’t given up on it, but I feel the time isn’t right for it.
I have the 1983 AC thoth tarot deck. Someone told me it's super rare, and I love it but would love to learn more... I know you're not suppose to mess with them unless you know what you're doing, only because you could open doors not needed to be open?
That is mostly a myth meant to keep the practice to a select few. I will say that generally doors are not so easily opened and do require intention. Most things in life only have the power you give them. If you allow yourself to believe that you may open doors not needed to be opened, you may well do so. But, more likely you will see the world through that frame of belief and attribute anything that happens as caused by said doors. That said, I am going to start a series of deep dives into Thoth, one card per video. I am hoping to record the first this Saturday and then post it either Saturday or Sunday. ❤️❤️❤️

One card in-depth analysis of all three systems would be amazing: RWS, Golden Dawn thoth/tree of life.. oh we could do that in your tarot group Thursday evenings! Yeah 😆.
It doesn’t…take me to the same place. I also really hate the Fool and Magus cards in that deck. (Just my personal thing.). But, it is a beautiful deck and a ton of work clearly went into it. This is such a subjective thing and I think that that deck might be a Thoth deck for someone else. It just doesn’t pull my mind or feelings the same way. But, I have the deck and I am not going to get rid of it. But for me, it is more for divination than anything else and in fairness, I think that is the most common use of tarot, so that isn’t a bad thing. But Crowley’s deck is more than that. Does that make sense? It is hard. I really thought Asherah would equal Crowley’s for me, but even that deck doesn’t - and I love that deck so much.
@@theOasisSeTarot it's so interesting how art affects people so differently. The art in the OG Thoth does nothing for me. Asherah and Tabula Mundi along with Mary-el speak to something so deep and unconscious within me. When I use those decks I feel a gravitational shift. They are beyond rational and logical thought. Maybe that is the same place that Thoth and Sufer takes you.
@@TrioofWitchesTarot That is definitely part of it. I think my experience is absolutely colored by coming to the tarot through Crowley first and approaching the deck first in a spiritual/magical way and then later moving into divination. The art in Thoth, just at face value, does not particularly appeal to me. Some of the cards do, but most don’t. But, it speaks to my soul. I think that is the best way I can explain it. I don’t spend a lot of time analyzing the cards these days. They just speak so clearly. I think it is akin to learning a foreign language. At first, you have to consider each word and remember what they mean. But, as you become more fluent, you understand in a more seamless way and nuances and things become more obvious.
I haven't had any experience with Thoth, I'm still trying to expand my RWS practice, but it is very interesting and will certainly be watching this series ! If anyone could help teach me Thoth it's you ! You know me I love learning ! Thank CHU♪(‘ε゚人)*.+゜
I know I'm probably in the minority, but I think tarot is a set of cards we can use to examine the day-to-day human experience, not a spiritual tool. From what I read Crowley was a narcissistic heroin addict who admired Nazism and Nietsche (Waite was no prince, either). Some of your comments about numerology are very interesting and I appreciate your insights and knowledge, but I tend to avoid anybody like Crowley who claims they know the one true way, including the one true way to interpret tarot. If you want a less specific deck why not Marseille?
Day to day experiences shape who we are and how we are and I am not sure we can disconnect them from spirituality. Crowley’s whole point was that there wasn’t one true way. There is the way that is right for you. That is the importance of the Aeon of Horus. His tarot is just a tool one can choose to use to discover this for themselves and it can assist in becoming. Crowley certainly wasn’t perfect, but he definitely was not a nazi. He offered his services to help Britain (and worked as a spy for England during the First World War). I like Marseille too, but it doesn’t do what Thoth does. But it is fabulous for regular readings.
@@theOasisSeTarot Yeah, I guess I don't believe in becoming, my purpose is to live my life, and my daily life isn't connected to 'spirituality'. Didn't say he was a Nazi, just expressed admiration for some Nazi ideals (again just from what I read) and I'm not sure you can say he didn't think there was one way when he considered himself a prophet. I know I'm definitely outside the mainstream and I don't mean to disrespect anybody else's ideas or beliefs. But you asked what we thought...
@@papermoontarot4219 I value your thoughts. I don’t find anything you said to be disrespectful in any way. You are absolutely entitled to your opinion and preferences. He did consider himself a prophet - of the Aeon of Horus, which is about self actualization. It is about discovering your own truth and your own path. At least, that is my take on it. 😃
@@theOasisSeTarot Good point if your true belief is that people should be themselves I guess that works. But I do get the impression he was a bit more opinionated than that! You've motivated me to read more about him, thanks.
