    When doing lifts, using some stock control arms, do yourself a favor: Loosen all the bolts on them when installing the rest of the lift parts, lower the jeep to the ground on the new lift, then go back and tighten all the control arm bolts to spec. This will help with both longevity and ride quality.

    Great job! Now you have to change the diff gearing and the brakes. Maybe later you can install some power rock sliders when you get tired of climbing up into your raised jeep. Happy trails.

      You're exactly right about the diff gearing. It does really well off road in low range, but it does suffer quite a bit on the road at highway speed. This Jeep will get 4.88's in the very near future. I don't have plans to change the brakes. I have found out, the hard way, that it will still stand on its nose on the street. I was very surprised at how well the brakes still worked in an emergency situation.
      As for the powered sliders, I have been eyeing the sliders from Rock Slide Engineering. I saw a set in person a couple of weeks ago and they're a very high quality product, but pricey. Personally, I don't mind the height, but my wife and kids would definitely appreciate the steps. However, we have managed just fine with it this past month and a half.

    Sweet, thanks for sharing! I just had icon 2.5 stage 3 installed, it’s still squirmy and has excessive bump steer, any suggestions? What were you able to get your caster adjusted to? My shop was only able to get to 4.6, I was hoping for 6+. Thanks

      nigelcobalt wow speaking obvious truths... no one ever said a stock Jeep would make t through the rubicon without body damage. Also no one ever said that adding a lift and bigger tires doesn’t make obstacles easier. That’s just plain obvious but thanks for stating facts. What I said was look up what it means. If you don’t want to then fine, be misinformed.

    So after the comment about being trail ready and it being a joke, I’m disappointed that you did what EVERYONE everywhere EVER has done. Added a lift and larger tires.

    great vid. great edit. I own a 2018 jku. what led you to install the icon suspension over other brands?

      @AdventureLab  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nicholas Moore thanks. I wanted one that had lower arms, good shocks, and didn't break the bank. They also have 2.5" shocks coming, which I will use as soon as they're available.

    What size lift was this and what’s the total height at the tallest point on your Jeep. Just wondering if it will still fit in my garage.

    • @AdventureLab
      @AdventureLab  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a 2.5" lift. At the highest point, it's right around 78" tall. Thanks for watching.

  • @fitobraun

    I'm debating putting this or the EVO Enforcer w King Shocks on my JL, what's your opinion on this one for On road smoothness?

    • @AdventureLab
      @AdventureLab  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Fritz. Thanks for watching. I don't have any personal experience with the Evo lift. I like the adjustable joint on the LCA, the trackbar relocation bracket, and a few other aspects of the EVO lift. It looks like a solid setup. That being said, the Icon kit is almost foolproof. It's easy to install and works well on and off road. I have a video coming out next week with my Jeep on the CTI trailer. More to come.

    • @fitobraun
      @fitobraun 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you think going to the final stages for both is comparable? The added wheel travel is cool but is it necessary for the ride quality? Thanks for your help, looking forward to the next video!

    • @AdventureLab
      @AdventureLab  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      All things being equal (tire, tire size, tire pressure, weight of vehicle, etc.), they are probably pretty similar in terms of ride quality. The variables there are spring rates (which are probably very similar) and shock performance. I have had very good performance from all King Shocks products I have used in the past. I am a big King fan. That being said, I am also a big Icon fan and very happy with how this Jeep rides on the street. I don't think you would go wrong with either kit, but if you don't need the extra adjustability of the Evo lift, the Icon may be a good fit.

      Thomas D that's a product I am making. It will be part of the American Adventure Lab line. I hope to have final pricing ready this coming week. I'll do a video on it here when it's ready. Send me a PM if you want one and I'll make sure you get one from the first run.

    Does it seem like the 37’s are putting strain on the engine and transmission? Will it go into 8th gear and what kind of mileage are you getting after the install? Any need or plans to re-gear?

    • @AdventureLab
      @AdventureLab  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, Todd. The 37's are definitely more of a strain than the 33's were, and that's my only issue with the current setup. I spoke to a few people online that were running 37's and they were happy with the stock gearing. However, I am nowhere near happy with the 4.10's. This one will get 4.88's as soon as I get off of this road trip. Eighth gear is pretty useless as-is. However, there is plenty of power to handle the 37's. Well, "plenty of power" is always relative. I love this setup, but this setup with 4.88's will be even better.

    • @tmac7624
      @tmac7624 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      American Adventure Lab Cool I appreciate the info. Yea I spoke with some people that were happy with the stock gearing but I just can’t see how it could handle 37’s in the long run without re-gearing.

    • @AdventureLab

      Looks like about 78" in the center. With a full size spare on the rear, it would be a little lower.

    Nice videos bro . I got the same Jeep as you . Question Why didn’t you go with the mopar 2 inch lift kit ?
    Thanks

    • @AdventureLab
      @AdventureLab  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I chose the Icon lift because I of their reputation of creating solid suspension kits. I like to support people that are continually pushing the industry forward. I'm sure the Mopar kit is very capable of raising the JL a couple of inches, but I can pick up the phone and call Icon and talk to an engineer there if I needed to. It would probably be tough to talk to a Mopar engineer. All of that being said, both kits are on the basic end of the spectrum and provide practically the same functionality (longer LCA's, one set of sway bar links, extended bump stops, etc.). You wouldn't go wrong with either kit.
