    In today’s video, I will be explaining the 5 Graphic Design mistakes you should avoid when designing for any creative brief/client work. These are 5 Graphic Design mistakes that I often see on posts on our subreddit ( / willpatersondesign .
    By correcting these mistakes, you will be able to visually communicate more effectively and will make your Graphic Design work look more professional as a result.
    Here is an inspirational design quote that inspired me to make the video;
    “Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Design is knowing which ones to keep”
    - S. Adams

    1. Excessive variety of fonts
    2. Lack of whitespace (cluttered border)
    3. Lack of contrast (Typographic/color)

    sometimes when I am struggling with getting the right contrast between colours I change my designs to black and white which really shows you how tonally different the colours are.

    Great hints, Will. Not many fonts, that's fundamental, indeed. I also like Montserrat, but I like OpenSans and Lato, as well. Color contrasting is harder than finding cool colors and matching colors, at least to me. You are quite right about "design trends". When a new trend appears people have the tendency to overuse it.

    Another great video to help my brain become visually creative and skilled at composition. I'm more of a text and speaking person but would like to grow. So about the pronunciation of "aesthetics" you only need add an "s" after the first syllable, "a". I find it helpful to look at how words are spelled and to "sound them out" syllable by syllable.

    Envato elements is a god send. I love it, I recommend it because it saves me time and it also inspires me. On the note of the video, I love the editing for this video. The part on white space and the camera invading your space. The aesthetic pronunciation. Very enjoyable and personable.
    Sadly I've learned the bulk of these mistakes the hard way URGH but I still fall victim to overcrowding my pieces. Always paranoid it's too simple and people will be like "I can do that", but a lot of people realize how much thinking goes behind building something that simple but beautiful and informational.

  • @auliamate
    @auliamate ปีที่แล้ว

    whenever i'm making a logo, i always make the black on white and white on black versions alongside the brand colours, so if the logo cannot function in monotone shades, then it needs some work.
    also serif fonts recently have been taking the simple, clean idea of their sans serif brethren, and boy oh boy i wanna use cooper black one day.

    The color contrast cat is just an animation or is a tool as well?

    • @willpatersondesign
      @willpatersondesign  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It is just an animation that Jim made to illustrate how people with Deuteranopia-type color blindness see a design/illustration.

If you want to simulate this in Adobe Illustrator navigate to;
      View >> Proof Setup >> Color Blindness - Deuteranopia-type
      Hope this helps :)

    Hi. A question about Envato, that I can't quite find a clear answer for. Although you have the licence to use the font in your design when its time to hand over to the clients and you tell them the font you used and explain they will need to buy their own copy in order to use it themselves, can people just buy single fonts from Envato without having to take a subscription? Or should you just the font name and source the single font from somewhere else? This is the thing that makes me not use them at the mo. Thanks

    I don't think I've ever really used gradients effectively as part of logo design - I'm worried the flat look is going out of style with more 3d design being used as of recently.

    Don’t feel bad. My mom can’t say epaulettes to save her life. (This word was more relevant in the 1980s.) It comes out as “epileps”. Like you would say epilepsy. Or Benedict Cumberbatch can’t say penguins. So funny. We all have that one word.

      1. Do not use too many fonts.

      4. Know the trends, but remember not to implement them every time, everywhere.
