I think Summer is definitely Rick's favorite. He lets her do all the imporant chores, he TRUSTS her, and Summer reminds him of his wife Diane. He feels a lot more connection with Summer, who is socially intelligent and equally sarcastic as him.

I think Rick admires Summer because she is emotionally tougher than him. In the night people episode, we see that her subconscious will emerges as the most dominant family member. Also, the wedding fiasco clearly affects Rick emotionally, and undoes a lot of the emotional progress Rick has made regarding his fear of letting people close, but nobody talks about how TAMMY WAS SUMMERS FRIEND and Summer doesn’t spiral from the betrayal or shut out her other friends or push them away, she just. Moves on. A few episodes later she has a sleepover with her other friends and dances to snake jazz with them (and she kind of bullies one of them and I wish the show addressed that)

I dunno, I feel like Rick makes it pretty obvious who he “prefers”, since Morty is the only person in his family who he has never replaced. And I don’t see any Summers on the Citadel of Ricks, though perhaps that’s on purpose

Let’s be honest though, he does love his grandkids, that’s why he sticks around, in season 6 he said he took rick primes place to e see if he would pop up but then he said that rick didn’t care about anything. He knew he would never show up, he is the one that lost the family, he never got one, so that’s why he hangs out with his grandkids so much. He just be in denial when he says that there are infinites and family doesn’t matter, to him family matters a lot.
Rick and Summer are my favorite main characters from the show.... Their banter is always hilarious whenever they interact. I hope we get more adventures with just those two in upcoming seasons.

It's been Harmon's show for a couple of years now and assuming they can find a reasonably accurate VA double, you might not even notice the difference if you weren't aware that Roiland was gone)

I REALLY hope they fix Summer’s character in the next season. She was slightly better in season 6, but downright awful in season 5. She went from a tough and adventurous teenager to a Rick wannabe that constantly wants his attention. The fact that she idolizes Rick despite the constant abuse he puts Morty through always annoyed me. I miss the way she was in the first two seasons, but hopefully she gets better.
Ya'll lets take a moment to appreciate that Summer literally saved the world to ruin her grandfather's happiness.
