    My first mod for the Traxxas X-Maxx. Installing the Castle Creation 2028 Blower Fan.
    This should put any cooling problems to rest. The two small brushless fans pump out an impressive amount of air.

    I just installed the same fan on my X-MAXX.
    But I ended up using the zip ties because the pressure made the heatsink fit better onto the body of the motor.
    Without them it was really only touching on the sides of the can.
    Now after tightening the zip ties with pliers it appears to make solid contact all around the area of the can it covers.
    I am sure it will still help the temperatures even without the zip ties.
    But personally I would suggest to use them and tighten them down pretty tight as well.
    I did have to take the motor out of the truck to do this.
    But I think that only took 6 screws, So not a huge problem.

    It seems counter intuitive that the fan would push air onto the heat sink rather than draw it off the top, given that heat naturally rises, or cold air sinks depending on who you ask.

    • @5punkybob
      @5punkybob 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      At first it would seem that way, but just like a computer heatsink you want to blow the cool air INTO the heatsink because if you suck the air up you are effectively pulling air from the hottest part of the heatsync (the bottom) and drawing it over the cooler parts (the fins) which in turn makes it overall hotter.
      This is why its best to blow the air into it.
      Source: Lots of testing

    • @pcodyssey41
      @pcodyssey41 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Spunky Bob Actually cpu coolers draw air off the cooler, not onto it. You described the concept perfectly. The idea is to draw the heat away from the base and up through the fins where it can be dissipated.

    • @5punkybob
      @5punkybob 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yep you are 100% correct!
      After posting this i went and checked my CPU cooler to make sure and realized I was turned around.
      I just came back to change my post and saw you replied :)

    • @pcodyssey41
      @pcodyssey41 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Spunky Bob No worries. Thank you for the response. I believe the fans on the castle cooler can be reversed so I plan on testing both ways and will post results when my cooler gets here.

  • @hybridmx5

    Keep in mind that if you change the stock gearing the fan will not fit properly. Changing to taller gears moved the motor to the side which prevents the fan shroud from sliding down. You may have to cut one side of the shroud depending on your gearing.

      not true the heat sink rotates on the motor. my hobby shop showed me how to do it. sorry boys. happy motoring.

  • @gmummy
    @gmummy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This is intended for castle 2028 size cans. Don't understand how everyone used it on stock motors. Maybe because they are using the heat sink. Also won't zipties create hot spots where they touch the motor? Illogical Jim.

    • @RCTanksTrucks247
      @RCTanksTrucks247  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Still works man. A motor is still a cylindrical shape

    • @gmummy
      @gmummy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RCTanksTrucks247 My concern was the diameter of that cylindrical shape. The castle 2028 can is almost the size of a soda can. Wouldn't this part be too large for the stock can?

    I just got this fan from a Hobby shop by me. Great video. Thank you. I may shave the inside down to make it sit flush also. Did you reverse the air flow though? is it better blowing down on the motor vs blowing out?

    the receiver box is sealed with silicone grease and your supposed to bundle all excess wiring into the receiver box.

    Great idea and I agree it looks factory, now for the questions where did you buy it and if you don't mind how much. I think keeping the motor cool is a good step but what has me worried is the ESC over heating and catching fire like I have seen on a few videos now that is a worry, I have been taking extra care of mine incase it does happen to me which would suck.

      Got mines from tower hobbies for $11.00. Still haven't gotten the truck yet as they are out of stock until March 1st.

  • @BraaptasticFrank
    @BraaptasticFrank 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I notice that you don't have the fusable link jumper in your battery wire for your truck. Did you know they issued a recall on the esc for these? I think they just send you a new wire to replace the jumper with. I would check it out on the traxxas website and see if your truck is affected.
    Anyway, Good video! Are these fans expensive? Have you thought of running a 18t pinion?

    Is the Traxxas X-Maxx waterproof? I've watched multiple different videos, of people getting insides covered in mud from using them, to driving over a damn lake, and through puddles!
    I was planning on buying one, and was wondering first of!
    1) If insides get covered in dirt or wet mud will it break my traxxas?
    2) Can i just use a (light pressure hose pipe) and spray the whole insides clean!
    3) If i dropped it in a swimming pool would it be fine!.
    I am not a child, nor trying to ask stupid comments! sorry please don't assume so! i'm just confused with all these videos i see on youtube!

    You want the gap to help air flow. Should be no need to trim. Great vid though. 😊

  • @iftibashir
    @iftibashir 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    A heat sink draws air AWAY from the component it's connecting to. With that fan you are pushing air back in towards the heatsink and trying to cool it there. Really you should be reversing the fans and helping draw the hot air away from the motor - just like the heatsink on a computer CPU. You'll find it much more effective this way.

      If you want a durable rc car, the best thing is to get a rc shroud for it. Gets most of the water of your electronics including driving in rain. Driving in deep water is not recommended. Dirt gets everywhere...
