Kogan Vertical Air Conditioner instalation guide for 2.6kw Reverse Cycle Unit

  • We now have 3 of the Kogan vertical window air conditioning units in our house. We have 2 of the smaller 1.75kW units in our smaller bedrooms, and the larger 2.6kW reverse cycle unit in our main bedroom.
    We live in sub-tropical South East Queensland in Australia and find them perfect for cooling our rooms down during the hot and humid summer months.
    We've had the smaller ones for a few years now, and the newer 2.6kW unit has been in for over 6 months now and have not had issues with any units.
    This larger 2.6kW unit is remarkabel quiet for its size, and especially being a window unit with the air con compressor being inside your room. You'll hear a small whir every now & then as it kicks in.
    The units are extremely easy to instal, and easy to remove and move to another room or house if you ever need to.
    The only thing you may need to do is get some black out material for the concertina section, and for below the unit if you find too much light comes through these areas.
    Apart from theat I can highly recommend these Kogan vertical window units if you require a unit to call your room.
    If you have any questions about the unit, feel free to send me a message.

    If anyone is interested in noise : at night with fan on 1 device is 62-63db C-weighted right in front and 60db 2m away. Subjectively its slightly more noisy than a split system.

    installed mine now. Seals very nicely with the prexisitng frame and window. Unit is slightly louder than a split system. very impressed. Presumably the chinese upsized this unit so much that the evaporator and fans all run at very low load because its like 4x the size of a normal window cube ac.

    I just installed mine into a wooden framed window, its working great, i unscrewed the removable brackets, put some extra holes in the frame and just screwed the frame into the sill top and bottom, old style windows that fold outwards, i chose to cut the brackets and remove one of them for a better fit, easy to putty up screw holes and replace the window brackets if i need to restore the window in the future

    unfortunately i had the unit on last night and it seems to make a buzzing noise every 15 seconds or so for 1 second. Its really quite annoying. Has anyone had this and knows how to fix it? I dont think its the compressor briefly turning on - the unit can be in turbo and not have this noise for ages sometimes. other times its there for a long time. i actually just turned the unit on, heated room to 28C, cooled it down to 22C and cant really reproduce this buzzing edit: Stuffed the windowframe between AC with foam and this reduced the buzz quite a bit. Buzz seems to be created by when the room is cool enough to not really need AC the compressor will just start for 1-2seconds and switch straight off so just setting the AC to a bit lower temperature fixes it. But its bearable with the foam now anyway.

    Does the fan still blowing after power off with remote?

  • @kingprone7846
    @kingprone7846 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    If anyone wonders about power consumption - fan only 15-30w, fan low 500w, fan high 730w, turbo 970w. There seems to be also a mode it uses when its close to temp where it draws 300 watts. Such large discreptencies in power consumption cannot really be explained by fan alone and I suspect this unit houses two or three compressors it uses in various configurations for noise/efficiency....
    The smaller 1.6kw conditioner uses 360w in fan low and 509w on high fan

    • @foff-666
      @foff-666 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      it doesn't have multiple compressors but the compressor can run at different speeds, so therein lies the power difference between the modes.

    • @kingprone7846

      i thought window ACs cant really run the compressor at different speeds? They are either on or off and just cycle between that?@@foff-666

    • @AdamBoltGoldCoast
      @AdamBoltGoldCoast  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No. It draws the air from the back of the unit which faces outside and pushes cold air into the room like a normal air con unit

    This unit from its apparent specs uses R410 which is being phased out due to high Global Warming Potential (GWP).

    i have installed the "smaller" 1.6kw airconditioner now too. Let me know if anyone needs comparison advice. The noise level is the same in terms of db between the two but the smaller one imho has a more pleasant slightly higher pitched compressor. i can whatsapp a couple of videos if needed

    • @AdamBoltGoldCoast

      The unit is some what heavy, but the weight is evenly distributed once it’s in the frame and it never feels like it’s going to bend or break the frame.

    I bought an old apartment & had gyprock installed, so window frame size has been reduced, will this impede the installation? As i noticed at 8.34 into your video i can see underneath the metal bracket APPEARS to be sitting lower than the frame of the ac unit itself? Would i need to adjust the frame in some way if thats the case or do you think it would not be feasible at all?

    • @AdamBoltGoldCoast
      @AdamBoltGoldCoast  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You will need at least 30mm clear from the Gyprock so the aircon frame can sit into and lock into the window frame.

    I highly appreciate the effort and this great video to review the product. I'm just concerned if Kogan paid you to promote this product. Because you did not mention anything about the noise this AC could make (when turn the cool mode on, which i think you did not turn it on in the video) .. I have purchased another 4.1Kw portable ac from kogan back in 2020 and it was insanely noisy.

  • @97Linton
    @97Linton 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Would you be able to tell me where the air is blown out from the back (upper or lower area)? I've got a lower clearance window so I can't install it recessed like yours. I would have to move it out wards but I am worried that I may block the exhaust area if I try to install it like that.

    • @AdamBoltGoldCoast
      @AdamBoltGoldCoast  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The air is sucked in from the back of the unit so it needs to not be covered to work properly.The air then blows out the frontof the unit into the room.
