Thanks for the update Doc.
I first saw the u shaped ge unit from Doc’s last yrs video. Just installed a 12,200 & a 10,300 btu for a relative. My relative is very happy with them. I replaced two 17 year old units, hope the new ge units are more efficient. & save him some $$. Thanks Doc!
Like many others of a certain age I too can remember growing up without AC. We had either Box Fans, Window units or if our parents were well off an attic fan.
Me with $5 in my bank account: Shoulda listened to Doc.
I just picked up the 10,300 BTU version and so I love it. Thanks for the update after one year.
Generator is a must I bought a pull behind military 45kw diesel from an auction love it I can run my whole house including a 3 ton central ac that is an intresting unit from ge u shaped deff different
This man save lots of money with how he cycles the big system off at night a d goes to the window shakers smart
I would want one that goes both AC and heat.
I have heard about these units and researched them. They get top reviews. Here in the US they can be very expensive running into a few thousand dollars each. But I also found that units are available direct from the manufacturers in S Korea for about $350 to $400 each. Huge savings. It appears there are two main manufacturers.
Thanks Doc!
I think that any savings you get from shutting off the main HVAC for the house at night is going to be used the next day to get it back to your set temp. If anything, run it a little cooler than normal at night when it doesn't have to work so hard.
That concept is false (I had always thought it was true too) One really does save by not keeping heat or ac on when not needed. We shut our heat completely off at night even in dead of winter.
Any feedback security wise on the window / ac unit
I heard you say, this window unit has a pump on it, that pumps condensation out. Does that mean it doesn’t cause a lot of humidity in the house? I have 1 regular window unit & 2 portable a/c units. They cause it to be a little too humid in the house. I need something that cuts down on the humidity. Will the U shaped window unit do that?
Are there any security features for these types of units? Seems like it would leave the window vulnerable to being opened up.
I’d cut a 2x4 to the right length and set it between the top of the upper window pane and the top of the window opening. In fact that’s what I do for traditional window units to try and keep them from falling out
Cut two wooden dowels and place them vertical into the window frame. Bad guys would have to break glass to get in
Too bad these won't work as my wall is too thick. 2x6 walls with brick and stone sill plus interior trim sill pushes beyond the 13.75" limit.
Thanks Doc, love follow ups on products. Comment, like, subscribe everyone!
Is your yard outside the kitchen window riddled with grubs?
Previous video said he was dealing with fungus because of all the wood chips in that load of soil that was brought in a while back.
How is the filming of this video so smooth? Normally, people bounce the camera around, which makes me sick. When you were outside, the unit seemed a bit loud. Would you say it is?
We bought one as well and it is really quiet. My question is I get water in the trough under the fan blades and when outside its you can really hear the water splashing. What did I do wrong? I likely will reach out to the supplier, but thanks in case you know.
That's actually normal for most AC units but there is a plug that can be pulled out or I have drilled a hole CAREFULLY on the bottom of some that don't offer the plug option.
I was thinking of one of those for my guest house . By the way love your house I see they sell one that does heat or air . I keep my air on 77 in the summer because my house is super insulated but problem is bedroom get colder than the house even in the winter it is colder so not good then . My house is 2440 sq. ft ranch with R 60 insulation Now want to ask where you got that kitchenet set with the steenless steel top with sink . I made mine for my guest house shed but love yours
Question. When the unit reaches the desired temp does it cut off or just stay on in fan mode?? I have a Midea in my bedroom and it turns off when it reaches the desired temp which wakes me up in the middle of the night.
Ya, I can’t have complete quiet! I have to have some white noise! I learned, real quick, if I have to stay in a hotel, to bring a small portable fan or white noise maker! That way, I don’t hear every little noise going on next door or in the hallway, unless the other people are being loud!
take it off “Auto” and leave it set on “Cool”.
on Auto it cycles on/off according to the temperature setting. on Cool it just stays continuously on, without cycles.
What is your regular job? you sound like your an expert on everything. What are your qualifications?
My problem is I need it in a sun room and the window is 12” from floor to window sill. I have nobody to install a regular window unit and I figure I can install one of these units. I’m needing the 12000 btu one. Any suggestions?
*I've had the 10300 for about six weeks. Its been working like a charm!* The setup and installation is amazingly straightforward. *Just make sure you measure your widow correctly to ensure that these units will fit!* Don't make my mistake! *I watchied the GE installation video* (done with the smaller units) *and tried to (on my larger 10000 unit) extend the sections by myself,* I actually pulled it out/off of it's track ! *Was able to get it back in place in 5 seconds once I realized what I'd done,* but I suspect a little more force and I may have broken it! *Point being, on the big units, the* *"Extension" as well as "The Lift and Placement" is definitely a two man job!*
Could you use this with a sliding window horizontal.
*I'm thinking, you might be able to! The benefit of the design is, the noise is placed outside of your house, while you retain the view from most of the window! But you'd have to make somekind of solid or transparent insert/seal from the top of the A/C unit, to the top of the window frame, to make it work! Heck, call GE, see what they say!...*
I see they are great for horizontal windows; not for vertical windows in the city.
I can barely pickup the box. did you need help to install it? I dont have anyone to help me.
What size unit do you have!? *We bought a 10300 which is quite heavy. So 5-10 minutes of the 1hr install definitely requires 2 people!* The rest, cutting foam and sealing the window can be done by one....
why can't you make a window ac like the through the wall ac with no vents on top or sides
need window ac that don't have vents on top or sides so we can use are screen when installing through window
we can't use are screens because we can't block the vents
pulling the screen down to the top of ac then we can block the sides at with insulation or a panel like the front curtain to keep bugs out of are windows
What is the cost of this a/c unit? Also didnt mean to sound like You you were not knowlegeable. You must be a professional product reviewer or a retired person with things to keep you busy.
what happened to your lawn ? Looks bad.
question why do some of them say inverter on the GE unit
Found this: Once the room is cool , an inverter air conditioner lowers the speed of the motor to save energy and maintain the desired temperature.
Added a Midea 12K btu in my 1200 sq ft garage. Building has closed cell insulation on all walls and ceiling. 3 bays…
Run at 70’ on eco…..keeps garage cool and allows me to do work on equipment in garage … “ no sweat”….😎😉 8:14
