Seems they were still in denial about their father. I guess they just didn't want to say anything since he was still alive when this was filmed. He was a monster, physically abusing them all and sexually abusing Susan.

Dad was. Their mom had only been dead a few years when this aired (1990). Not flippant about her at all, they love their mom very much. Dad made many bad business decisions & investments & lost it all while burning bridges in the music industry for his kids future in music. They worked their butts off and are still all playing together as The Cowsills, individually or with others. They've recorded for many artists. Talented musicians. Should be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

This family was and is EXTREMELY talented, Susan has a beautiful voice. Their father was extremely abusive& it’s a shame that they never fulfilled their potential.

They're not saying anything bad about their dad, Bud, but when he banished Billy for smoking a joint he made a horrible mistake as a parent. Billy had so much talent it was scary. Many of Billy's performances are here on youtube, of course

This is just sad. I love these guys. They obviously had not come out of hiding about Bud at this point. Of course, Bud was still alive.

Their father was an abusive tyrant and the boys don't sing his praises today. Susan tries to gloss over it but as the only girl & the youngest she probably had a somewhat different experience growing up. The oldest boys especially endured far too much before she was even born. Very talented family with a sad story similar to that of the Jackson Family.

Remember, their father was still alive when this interview happened. After he died, well, the truth was told.

Im shocked at this.....even as adults there Dad ran the show...on Showtime after the Dad passed away they said a complete different story and described the Dad as a cold heartless jerk that blew there money

They’re acting pretty strange in this interview. Nervous chattering. It’s like they’re over aged kids. Their must’ve been a tyrant. Settle down; chill out. I like their music though.

They were covering for their father here, but later they did the Family Band documentary and spilled the beans on him

Susan Cowsill was so cute as that little, 8 year old girl, singing with her family on the television show, banging on her tambourine out of beat with the singing. Yet she sang with all her heart. She grew up to be a pretty woman.

Given the horrific way their father treated them, it's amazing any of them are still around.

I met the Cowsills in the latter 60's at WPNO radio on Court street in Auburn, Maine. I had all of their autographs for the longest time. I really did like them all very much. All were always smiling.

I remember seeing this when I was up in the middle of the night with a killer migraine. Nice to be able to see it pain free.

Their father was extremely abusive to them. They did the best they could under the circumstances, and their music was amazing.

One of my favorite groups ever in one of the strangest interviews I've ever seen. Everyone's talking over each other, trying to be funny with non-humor and acting like they are secretly scared Joan will go into parental horror story evidence, or as if they've only got five minutes and will get cut off any second. What in the world. Well, blessings to the remaining Cowsills.

I was going to post a very similar comment. Bob put the documentary project together and finally decided to get brutally honest. It was a sad story. I understand why they wouldn't air their laundry when their father was still around. Nevertheless, I am glad the Cowsills in this video are alive and sometimes even perform together.
