My big sister was a fan, I followed, of course! They are really performing these as they go, the cues that the were NOT pre-recording are evidence. I can see the hard work they put into this. Susan is a tremendous performer at that tender age, precocious and probably the best of all of them with those stale network-written jokes. she lines up her cues and delivers ever time. Even dances! But the way the young ones nail that hard-to sing "Happiness is" song is in itself impressive (the song itself is a damn wreck-who thought to have the youngest kids to sing it?). Simply amazing for child pop-singers. And the boys even nail down some barbershop. They were the real deal. As much as my Sis graduated to David Cassidy, we really missed out on them being the original plan for the partridge family series.

This is Susan's showcase really, she's pretty much carrying it for her brothers who really look uncomfortable with the whole thing. Susan became a talented singer, guitarist and songwriter herself later into her life. I always thought Susan added so much to the band with her presence. Anytime you look at music videos they did at this time, it's Susan dancing that drags you in along with the music (I always find it funny watching Susan just dance her little heart out while her mum is just looks awkward beside her).
For me their best album is Global from the early 90's which is a lost power pop classic.

The Cowsills were to have their own show. They were talking to ABC, when Barbara Cowsill, a shy woman who suffered from severe anxiety all her life, quietly went to ABC and said she just couldn't do it. ABC cast Shirley Jones as their mother in a scripted, but heavily based on reality show. The Cowsills, not knowing that Barbara said no refused. It was about this time, Bud Cowsill disbanded the group. This left Shirley Jones without a series. Fast general "cattle call," quickly written pilot,.....The Partridge Family!!!

This was the outfit of the time. Susan Olson (Brady Bunch) same thing. It seems like a common theme back in those days, was an older legend, pairing up with a younger girl. It was more for laughs and cuteness. No perversion vibes at all. There are zero here. I if anything, today's culture is much more whacko. Pointing this out in the first place and giving time links to get undie shots seems way weirder.

Dixie melody, punks, not “old time” melody
