    There is no reason not to have this, it gives comfort, and a little joy wherever you go, and not to mention convenience if someone ate beans and needs to sleep alone.

    Been using that exact set-up for a couple of years now. LOVE it ! To that, I've added some of their extras, like the zippered tubular bags for storing those poles in ( bought two bags ). I also bought the rain-fly kit (reason for the second bag). Those caps at the end where the carabiners hook to, those pop out and stubby poles insert in them, each has a tit for the rain-fly grommets. I also have the suction cup for the rig, to attach one corner of the rain-fly to, and use a short pole to raise the corner headed to the ground.
    Since I have a Tahoe with the ambulance style doors, and my Dakota P/U which does not have a 2" receiver hitch on it... I opted for their accessory, which is of the same caliber of steel, triangular in shape. It stands on the ground, against the tire, and a 10,000 lbs capacity ratchet strap goes around the tire and secures the frame to the tire. It has the 2" receiver on it as well, and the hammock stand slides into that. I like using it on the front tire and turn the tire so the hammock angles away from the side of the rig, allowing me to open the door to access.
    I rig a 10' x 10' tarp from the roof rack and use three of those Green Elephant poles and guy lines, and 12" spike tent stakes. Add a "tail-gater table" sold by Firebox Stove, and I have a covered table/sitting area at the rear wheel of my rig.
    Since my rig is too old for the slider kit... I use the Ridgid tool cases to store my gear in. They lock together/stack, and can be supplemental seating for camp visitors in need of a place to park. I just got home from camping for the long weekend. LOVE me some hammock snooze time. Also, for those of us a little older, and/or mid-line ballast challenges... sitting up in the hammock, and reaching behind, you can use each of those poles as a hand-hold while getting up.

    So happy to see this! When I first became a van dweller, I had little more than a hammock in my van but that was okay because it kept me out of the hospital and restored my health after my 2nd bout with severe mold poisoning. Now my van build has progressed and I have a more conventional bed but I MISS my hammock! I really want one of these stands 🥰

    When I built the rack for my gladiator, I had to have a hammock hanger off it. Off the passenger side and rear two bars swing out with 10ft between to hang my hammock. Still have the back for my kitchen.

  • @DF4Trap

    Very cool, I like how compact it is. I made one years ago, similar although not as compact. I made it with a receiver extention that allows me to keep the tail gate open. I also added a adjustable stand to eliminate the bouncing which becomes more of an issue with the receiver extention. The greatest attribute of the hitch mount is you have the ability to use a hammock in places you normally couldn't, like facing a beautiful veiw. The only down side is your shelter system is mounted to the rig, which for long camping trips can be an issue. I still have and used mine today.

    Dave a little trick i've found for your hammock is that you put a string about the lenght of your hammock to the inside zipper so when you go inside to stay you pull the string and you can push it out with your toes it worth every penny

    I had the McClean Metal Works Hammock stand on a Renault (like a sprinter) L1 H2 van (you can view the van tour and the stand on my channel somewhere I think). I never used it because it seemed like there was never an opportunity where it made sense to use it (either too cold, too close to other cars, not a good view, too close the the ground, etc). I think a kammock portable hammock stand makes a lot more sense, it weighs the same or less and you can put it anywhere. McClean had excellent customer service and did a great job on the stand, I just don't think the idea itself is as practical as a stand alone stand.

    I bet it wouldn't be too bad to modify that bumper to accommodate two poles for a similar result, for that matter a little welding on any bumper might do the trick. How about a tarp over it, that close to the bed maybe access to the inside of the cap as well. Cool idea.

  • @kuntsniffer9437

    I actually own this stand myself, I like the ability to camp anywhere, BUT this is not perfect, I am in the 240# range myself using a Tacoma, and the hammock damn near touches the ground, your underquilt definitely touches the ground. I’ve had the same results with my 4Runner, my only solution to work around this is to put my handyman jack under the hitch and raise it up to where you want. This totally fixes that issue, the other issue I have is the perfect tension on your guy line, as you sit on it, the 2 aluminum poles obviously come towards each other so that your line tension is a little sloppy. You don’t get that with trees, I do like it but I haven’t found it to be perfect, does anyone else have these issues?

  • @pnwadventuresandgearreview8749
    @pnwadventuresandgearreview8749 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like how they give you the clips to keep the poles together when not in use since this is not a folding setup. Bonus since there is no moving parts less chance of this system failing.

  • @kjpierson1152
    @kjpierson1152 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think I like this stand system better than the one I was looking at before. Much simpler and a lot less flex/give in the bars on this one. Lot more clearance away from the Jeep as well. This is with the hammock set you have on SRO isn't it? Just wanted to double check.

    String across the two fartherest points and a tarp and you have an a frame roof for rain / dew protection.
    Even if you just let it hang
    But if you stake it you could be away from the tarp. Either way your dry. Cause dew never falls at

    Dave, could you give me some dimensions on the Hammock stand?
    1) Bottom Brace: Length from (Center of Left Pipe Hole to Center of Right Pipe Hole).
    2) Top of Pipes where Hammock connects: Length from (Inside of Left Pipe to Inside of Right Pipe).
    The way my Hammock is set up I'm thinking it is to long, so I might have to do some modifications.

    Sure it's priced on the high side, but.... unfortunately that's the current state of affairs here in America. It's certainly not Dave's fault, he's just trying to show us high quality products made in U.S.A. If we don't start supporting these American businesses now(like we should have been doing all along)then nothing will ever change. Very sad, but very true.

    • @thisishowiedewitt76
      @thisishowiedewitt76 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think the cost has anything to do with it's country of orgin. Even the other brands that are made overseas are priced in the same ballpark, some are more. It has more to do with economies of scale and the niche market a product like this and the others exist in.

    • @jayhom449

      This setup build great I have one and I can mount it on my motorcycle with sidecar. I try not to buy made PRC goods. I do not support their military. Because half of the money of every business makes pays into the government. And I do mean half of their profits.

    • @kevola5739
      @kevola5739 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Their is additional cost to buy from China such as lost jobs, lost govt revenue, and having to rely on another country for your needs. Then if you consider the environmental impact of China’s manufacturing and supporting an oppressive govt that your govt has to subsidize then the scales tip drastically. Seems more expensive when you add it all up. Average Joe down the street will thank you for it.
