    brembo owns AP and they've been in F1 for way over 30 years.

    Neat video!
    Looking forward to seeing more videos and hopefully some on road/track talk, as well.
    Re: j-hook design, I think I remember reading that gases released from the brake pads are better dissipated, increasing friction, when clampin' down : )

    what a great kit. Always had issues with stock brakes on my WRXs.

    2-piece rotors for lighter weight, but also less thermal transfer to hub. I ran a Stoptech BBK for a while, superb quality. Much better pedal modulation, absolutely zero fade on-track.

  • @TheLeesto
    @TheLeesto 10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Lots of theoretical gains but how about some simple numbers? What is the braking distance with OEM vs this kit? That ought to be the biggest metric which people use to decide whether or not to buy this.

      ***** Not to mention better acceleration through less rotational weight

    • @MrTheMrhappy
      @MrTheMrhappy 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      TheLeesto AP racing big brake kits aren't so much about pure breaking power and more about stability. Contrary to what most people think, 2 piece rotors are not meant to save weight. They do but it's no their primary purpose. They were first invented to manage heat: 1 piece rotors in race conditions would break because they would get so hot and would expand so much that they would crack and shatter but 2 piece rotors have oval shaped mounting holes (between the two pieces) wich means they can thermally expand without cracking. This is espescially true with the big one piece rotors you can see on road cars nowadays. The 4 pistons will help with pedal feel and brake control but the pad area is the biggest determining factor in braking power. What I mean to say is that you could probably get the same braking power from a simple pad change on the stock pieces but the difference comes when you go to the track. That's why everybody will tell you you don't need a bbk if you don't abuse your car.

    • @donnytfranco
      @donnytfranco 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      TBH, one of the most important features of a BBK is zero fade, ever.

    this is for early cg8 and forester gt up to 2002 = every body knows subaru had 4 piston brakes from 2002 onwards with subaru on the caliper moving onto brembo 4 piston a little later = so only really good for race or rally - go to the wrecker - it will be cheaper and get new discs not much cash. i did and fitted high pressure brake lines !

    Hey man, as far as the dust /heat shield goes its your choice, but the j hooks and the vents need to be facing the forward rotation. What you have done is the reverse, where the vents are not scooping up the air and the j hooks are not opposing the pads. You should consider changing this immediately

    • @arizonacitizen3383
      @arizonacitizen3383 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stoptech street performance or sport. They are same pad, just used to be called the former and then switched to the latter. (Or viceversa). Have them in my m5 and they work well under light track use/racing.
      You need better fluid and I’d install stainless steel brake lines.

    • @SubiSpeed
      @SubiSpeed  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The pads we use are for track use. When hot they make no noise. If your car is more of a daily driver then there are pads we can supply in this kit that will be silent during daily driving and also provide decent track performance.

  • @Espinal_424
    @Espinal_424 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    so would you say it would be a good idea to get these for daily driving? they should last a really long time with the thicker pads and the fact that it wouldn't be pushed hard as if we were on the track. Just a question so save the sarcasm or dickhead comments please.

    • @SubiSpeed
      @SubiSpeed  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      These would work for daily driving, but they would not be necessary. We would recommend some upgraded brake pads instead.

    That awkward moment when you shit on Brembo to praise Brembo... AP Racing is owned by Brembo. But, even if it wasn't, discounting Brembo's place in the automotive world is stupid. There's a reason they're used in almost every single HiPo production car out there. And it's not because manufacturers think they're incompetent.

      +SubiSpeed what size rims would I need to fit a BBK?

  • @kevinp4532
    @kevinp4532 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Couple things with this video: #1 not saying its going to make a difference but on the OEM weight of caliper, you left the brake line attached where you didn't measure the line with the BBK. Still going to be lighter i know but still mis-representation. #2, "J-Hooks" are just for looks and "Pad scrubbing" Their job is not to dissipate heat at all.. Mainly their for scrubbing the brake pads and for looks! #3 when you're looking at the vane geometry, its not necessarily more "air flow" that the geometry accomplishes. Compared to the OEM straight vanes, the curved vane geometry acts like a pump per say to "pump" the heat out and create a more laminar flow.

    • @1slkss
      @1slkss 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johnvelazquez9579 marketing BS, they don’t allow any gaseous out flow due to their design, so I’d agree with the poster above they are more about looks than about function. Now if they extended full width of the rotor & allow for gaseous outflow they could help with some heat dissipation, however they don’t.

    Seriously, AP Racing make very competitive products, but you can't just underrate Brembo's work in the industry for 50+ years like that. Also, as far as I know AP Racing is a part of Brembo Group brands, but I guess that's another topic..

      MrThePrivateer those track tests done by whoever it was, dont prove jack shit. That depends on the tires, driver, and what the conditions were duing testing. Depending on that, it can change. I hate how you people just look at track tests and instantly state that one car is better than the other. I own a 2009 nissan gtr, and personally hate it when people are like "oh dude the gtr can do 0-60 in 2.7 seconds which means its faster than the aventador that hits 0-60 in 2.9 seconds. Like get that bullshit out of here. you cant judge a car based on their 0-60 times. The aventador will fucking smash the gtr above 60mph

      MrThePrivateer hahahahahahaha, of course you do. Typical 14 year old in the TH-cam comments.

      When someone goes keeps commenting on TH-cam about how many cars they own, 99.99999% of the time they are full of shit and just trying to impress someone. I know you probably live in a dumpy trailer park and try to act cool online, but you should just really stop while you're ahead.

    for a street car and some auto crosses, the oem floating/sliding caliper is adequate. Just get some dot 4 brake fluid and a good set of upgraded brake pad and you will be ok. But for track duty, I agree with the SubiSpeed gentleman. Alcon BBK is also a good choice but I do not know if they make them for the WRX.
    The Brembo BBK that come with the STI is an INFERIOR product. The Morons that have been design this set up for the past decade for STI should know better. This is because the aluminum Brembo caliper is mounted directly into the knuckle assembly to hold the rotor. The problem comes in when it is time to change the rotor, thus you have to remove the caliper to get the rotor out. The heat, rust and foreign matters the have been accumulated over the years caused the stripping/rounding off the threads on the Brembo aluminum caliper or making the job a lot difficult. Even if the mechanic used hand tool to remove the caliper bolts that attached to the knuckle assembly. You have to be stupid to use impact wrench on this. Once you damaged the thread on that Brembo caliper, the best option is replacement. You can try to re-thread the caliper and the knuckle assembly but it is not safe. As a result you will turn it into a bigger job and more headaches.
    And the aforementioned MORONS from Brembo did not make the caliper braket like AP RACING, Alcon, J's Racing and Spoon Sports calipers.

    **WARNING** Follow the Subaru factory service manual for proper installation. This video is not a proper installation of the big brake kit. It skipped one very crucial procedure.
    Even with relatively low mileage on the bearing hubs and brand new high quality brake rotors, you should still measure for lateral run out for the rotors and index the rotors in such a way to minimize run out. I have seen as much as 0.005" of lateral run out by not indexing the rotors.

    Secondly, this particar brakes with 4pistons are just for the front, so the rear stays stock? Can the rear be the same discs as well with 4 pistons?
