This video tutorial shows the utmost importance of its make. That kid handled the pain like a champ throughout the entire production - that piece of cloth did the job!
In a world where most photography channels simply spend hours pixel peeping, these videos are invaluable. Thank you for so much information and inspiration.
Explains why i couldn’t get two people in focus, my aperture was too low then, I’m gonna give it another try soon, thank you!! I’ll prolly shoot it Aperture mode too rather than manual
Wanted to say love your videos very informative. My question is why use trees as a background to me looks like the limbs are growing out of their heads
Nice work, but I think it should be said that this will have a little different effect with a Full Frame (like you're using), ASP-C (or micro 4/3) camera body too.
I raised and lowered the power of the key light strobe head until it matched my f-stop and gave me a proper skin tone on their faces. Then I raised and lowered the shutter until I liked the background.
I am doing outdoor family pics with Santa. Location is front porch of an old home so no rim light. Do you think one FJ400 in a 36” octa will be enough to evenly light the group? This is a fantastic video and I appreciate all of your efforts.
It should be as long as the group is not too big. I just shot an office portrait with a group of about 14 people with one FJ4oo worked out just fine. A second strobe behind would be nice to add for a rim light if you have room behind the group.
I know I’m months late but are we just gonna ignore him climbing the tree, falling, being in pain then the next scene he’s in a sling from that point on?? Like he broke his arm and they kept rolling 🤣🤣
Love the kid climbing the tree in the background 😂
he fell, next shot he's in his arms in a sling
loved your suggestion on poses, hadn't considered the rise and fall concept

You are welcome. Glad you found it helpful!
You always come to your videos "armed" with humor!!! Thanks for doing this for us.
I'm really glad to see that the boy was OK. I knew something was up as soon as he fell and the family did absolutely nothing. Lol
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
What's funny, the family did not even acknowledge or noticed the whole time.
impressive how you remember their names!!
I try hard to do that when I first meet with people.
Very informative video and I loved the humor aspect with the boy!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for your comment!

Excellent tutorial. Very much appreciated. Nice staging of the boy and the fall.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
You are looking great! Very trim and elegant. The graphic scene dividers are fun but held on screen twice as long as needed. Nice video as usual.
Thanks for watching and thanks for your feedback!
wow, I learnt a great deal of portrait photography in the outside.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for your comment!
As always with Jay P., I learned something new when I least expect to
That is great to hear. Thanks for your comment!
GREAT POSING TIPS FOR GROUP PORTRAITS...thanks for this! I work with a 24-70mm zoom and also a 55mm lens cropped 1.2x for an 85mm perspective.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for your comment!

Good luck with your re-shoot!

Glad you were able to figure it out!
Love all your videos. How did you handle the glare from their glasses? I can see it in the video but final photos have none. Did you fix it in post?
Just a little bit of retouching in post.
Beautiful video ❤
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice video, but what about the flash settings. Using TTL or...?
We were not using TTL we were using manual flash settings.
Wanted to say love your videos very informative. My question is why use trees as a background to me looks like the limbs are growing out of their heads
The trees are out of focus enough. Most of the images from the session the trees are more like framing the group.
Nice work, but I think it should be said that this will have a little different effect with a Full Frame (like you're using), ASP-C (or micro 4/3) camera body too.
great video as always, question, did you match you main light (power) to your F stop or did you go by eye until you like the exposure? thank you.
I raised and lowered the power of the key light strobe head until it matched my f-stop and gave me a proper skin tone on their faces. Then I raised and lowered the shutter until I liked the background.
No children were hurt in the making of this video. CORRECTION:
Thanks for watching and keep on clickin!

Good video sir
Thank you. I appreciate the compliment!
0:16 Yeah, the background blur of this lens is really busy! 😁

The dude climbing the tree fell and nobody noticed 😂 I hope he’s okay 👍
I promise you, no one was harmed.
That caught my eyes right away, glad he is ok.
I have that lends and I don’t consider a good one

Glad you enjoyed the humor. Thanks for watching!
Not mentioned AF MODE AND TYPE.
That is a good point. I use single point autofocus when I shoot groups like this. Thanks for the reminder.
why not native 24-70. auto focus is better with native sony lens
That would be another good lens choice.
This is an SNL skit lol 🤣That kid in the back looks all messed up
Beware of trees growing out of people's heads.
the kid in the back is the highlight of the video...staged but good!
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
