Use it! You ain’t gonna break it I promise. Even if handle comes out of it you can get an original Buckin Billy Ray axe handle. I’ve got a couple of those on different things. They handle well.
This dear man about 7 or 8 years ago taught me how to haft an axe. You have to give credit where it is due. This fella was working in conditions that were not good. He was working in the breezeway in extremely cold conditions. He always had a smile on his face. That was back in the day when Cleetus and a few other characters would show up unexpectedly and have you rolling on the floor by the time they left! I am grateful that Billy Ray would always take the time to explain everything he did while hanging an axe or for that matter anything he was working on. Have you ever found a better teacher than Buckin? Whether it is filing a saw or sinking a wedge he would drill it into your brain by repeating the process over and over again until it just became natural for you. So thankl you for your patience and kindness while teaching us Buckin. You are one of a kind and I just wanted to tell you thank you and that I love you brother!
Tom...i remember seeing your craftsmanship on this very channel and it was top notch. Your opinions and comments are highly respected by this buck private of the Buckin Army 👍 I agree with your definition of our teacher and motivator Mr Billy Ray ✅
YES!!! this brought me back 3-4 years ago when you would show this all the time, thank you buckin for bringing me back✊P.S you should sell just the wood bullet axe head as another option.
One of these days, I’m gonna get one of your axes which act would be the best for big logs so when I’m ready, I can go on your store and buy one. Thanks right now. I’m just dreaming about it.

I've used many of your tips and tricks lately, the most recent being never commit to your scribe if it's too deep until youre certain. I enjoy all your content. No Billy it's you that's the winner. You bring such happiness into people's lives. You bring love hope and peace too so many people a shining star in the darkness to those who wonder what the day will bring them.
Mr Buckin'... because of you...i have found my passion in chainsaws (Powersaws)... THANK YOU! I am also trying to build my own axe now... its slow going and i have limited equipment ( need to get a draw knife) ...but so far is coming along well. Thank you and Bless you for sending such a positive message to the world. We NEED more people like you... would make the world a better place.
Love these axe videos!! Very informative, and you do a great job of explaining what, and why you do what ya do😊😊, thanks brother❤ much love from the Barths❤️❤️🙏🪓🪵🌳😎
I have a 4lb Elwell 1939 war issue and its a beauty of an axe to swing and split with, also i have a 4.5lb elwell rounding pattern and that never gets stuck even in real tough bits of oak or ash. All hardwood here for me in Yorkshire Dales, its not often im felling softwoods. Respect to you bud i get exactly the buzz you feel about a beautiful axe.
Oh, I drool for a Tassie. But my game changer was a 4 lb. Warren on a 32" hickory, bent. DESTROYS wood, and begs for more. Only ax I own that takes apart twisted maple rounds first off the stump. Nothing else I own dares stand in its shadow. Until I Tassie up, the Warren'll do! Gorgeous bi-color, "chromy" dappled through splotchy dark gray, very much like the one you're handing here. But Dayton pattern. (But maybe, someday, a Wood Bullet!). Just saying, I share your excitement! (Probably like all the other viewers gathered here).
Hahaha, I love it- you were done with that axe or filming it multiple times, then came back in to film some more or add something. 😂 And at the end I was thinking how is he going to leave us (and the axe) high and dry with no oil? Then you did it. Great stuff. Wedge perfection.
I saved some black walnut from a job the other day and planned on using it for an axe handle then I have some tigerwood I could use for a wedge. Now I need to find a head or make one myself
I think it’s the time of year or something. Maybe the cooler weather makes me feel like building a axe. I’m the same way though. This one turned out nice!
I hung axes out of necessity as a kid, now i do it for enjoyment.. i have a modest collection of some of the best in my area, we just dont have Tasmania patterns. I hope to one day find a nice one to play with.
Ha ha..."play with an axe" doesn't that perk up the ears of every mother of a young boy that there is danger in that saying...🚧 Your dad hands you a chainsaw or a 22 rifle when you're 12 and says: " you can play with this but it's not a toy" and the mother starts yelling at him 😂

Guys, I'm Jon from Tennessee I'm a Virgin to wood splitting, what is a double bit axe best for? You guys tend to favor the "Wedge Banger" for splitting? Is it the weight difference?
Well most double bit axes are not made for splitting wood they are generally used for chopping down trees. Single bit axes are used for splitting because if you stick the blade you can hammer it through with a sledge like a wedge
