When I work on these saws. I drill the fuel holes in the tank out 1 drill bit size and then you can use echo rubber fuel line. Takes care of alot of there known issues. ( poor fuel filters and fuel lines)
The best, most comprehensive, no B.S. carb video on the internet! 😮 😊. This could possibly have put a serious dent in the money supply for hundreds of small engine shops! Sixty years of learning and experience has been taught in one shot……..if you are capable of following directions. Nuf said?
Saw carbs are pretty straightforward but it's amazing how sometimes they get assembled incorrectly. Great vid straight to the point. TC Mahalo Tinman 🤙🤙🤙
Great video. I recently did this exact job on my 1997 Craftsman saw that hadn't run in 15 years. I also put on a new chain. She runs and cuts like a champ now!
I learned on those over the past couple years. They are like a carbon copy of a 1999 Poulan 2375 (Wild thing) at least the 1999 Craftsman that I have is. Learned some porting here (Thanks Tinman!!!) Here's what I did (I am a complete novice) Muffler - make all those holes in the baffle much larger and put 2 holes in the side to exit. Beware to not crank those carburetor nuts too tight or you will crack the plastic intake block. Porting - squish was 0.056" (can't change that), Exhaust 90 deg ATDC, Intake 102 deg ABDC, (Tr was 123 so BD is 33), new piston ring. Starts super easy. It's my baby dragon, ha ha. I can't say enough Tinman - Thank you and I am still learning. Let's all have a safe trip to Bunyan and back. See ya there! P.s. My wild thing is similar but a bit slower cause I was a bit more cautious at first, and it sports a 325 chain on a 20" bar.
My bench is outside under a 10' x 10' canopy. The ground is grass, not good, there are many tiny parts down there..... lost forever. I do chainsaws all Summer, break down in the fall and switch over to film camera repair in the Winter, indoors of course. Those Craftsman's are the one of the easiest saws to work on.
Love Aspen fuel for storage or the infrequently used 2t's! Been using the 4 cycle version of Aspen and/or VP and mixing in my own oil for years without any problems. If I'm on a project where I'll use more than a gallon in a week, I mix with ethanol free pump fuel, but even non ethanol will cause problems when left in equipment for an extended period, alkylate fuels will not. Glad you got your buddies re-branded Poulan back up and running. Those are great saws for occasional users, IMO.
Hi tinman the first saw i tried porting was a wildthing fairly cheap parts are cheap figured if i blew it up it was only a 40.00 experiment lol. .015 off the base little tranfer work textured the intake port raised widened exhaust and opened the muffler. Pulls a 24 inch bar like mad. My friends dubbed it the demon saw lol. 2yrs still running strong. Have since moved on to a few husky thanks for the vids
Have a three saw package coming up this weekend, one is a wild thing, one green similar and can’t even remember the other one but that is three to “play with “ this winter. The bad thing about watching this channel is the absolute need to scour the for sale accounts on the internet and then hide the craftily stashed saws from the boss😂. The best thing about this channel is the sound and chips hurling from trees 😊
Those older Poulan/Craftsman saws really wake up with a quick muffler mod. Those black mufflers can be taken apart, so remove the baffle and I also drill a few small holes in the little round indentation on the front of the muffler, reassemble and retune the carb and it’s a peppy little saw.
I got that same model saw given to me cause the owner said it didn’t run took it apart to find all the lines were broken or missing down to the oil tank lines and the pulse bulb destroyed that’s a fun project I’m trying to get done I’ve yet to take the carb apart and look it over
I use non ethanol and echo oil. Great tips. Someone recommended using 2 cycle oil in the tank. Allow the porch to pass out through. What do you think of that.
That screen wasn't plugged with dust. It was plugged with varnished fuel and plastic fuel line that was degrading! No way can dust get into that unless its been run with no fuel filter!
i want (really badly) to see what a little of your cutting and grinding magic would do for that thing.. cant say ive ever seen one done plus i think a homeowner saw playlist would get mad views
I use Non ethanol fuel in all my small engines, its ready availbale around here because we have a lot of lakes and boats , boats dont like ethanol and i hate the stuff
Hey so I love watching your videos you're definitely pretty good at what you do. But the reason for me being here and typing all this is that I wish there was a way that you can get your hands on a menace 85 motorized bike engine. Because it's a copy of a chainsaw cylinder. And I wish there was a way that you could help me get the numbers to make it scream. 😊😁😎
I have the EXACT saw the ol crapsman “special edition” pull the muffler off and open the fins up in the back. Gives you a hair more power and throttle response..really not much but gains is gains no? 😂
Ethanol is the biggest scam! We are payin 5 bucks a gallon for 90% fuel...rediculous! Trying to get my old man to start getting non ethanol for his 2 strokes after fixing his hedge trimmer that was only a few years old. Fuel line was completely disintegrated
no way ^) is it craftsman chainsaw - its my first chainsaw, only my is red. i think craftsman id fale company, because telephone number printed om the saw ^) and amortization system - not good
When I work on these saws. I drill the fuel holes in the tank out 1 drill bit size and then you can use echo rubber fuel line. Takes care of alot of there known issues. ( poor fuel filters and fuel lines)
I have done that on few saws, but i use Stihl R3 fuel line instead😊
That's not a dirty bench. That's a busy bench. Great video! Thanks for sharing this Tinman.

Nice close up shots of the carburetor repair in detail. All the steps to complete the rework anyone can follow.
See you at the Bunyan my friend. 👍👍
Can't wait buddy

@wrstew1272 I'm running out of room my girlfriends daughter keeps track she says I have 52 saws lol
Excellent Tinman, always interesting to watch u video's and the integrity you have shown in your videos is to be commented 😊
I love this stuff this is one of my most favourite porting channels
I had the impression that Tygon fuel lines are one of the best, cause they are made out of silicon thus they dont get dry very easy...

Those saws are here in Oz. the early ones were Poulan, then McCullough and now Ryobi.
Excellent video, could you do a video on the electrical parts of saw and how to test for problems? Do you need anything for Paul Bunyan?thanks.
I got that same model saw given to me cause the owner said it didn’t run took it apart to find all the lines were broken or missing down to the oil tank lines and the pulse bulb destroyed that’s a fun project I’m trying to get done I’ve yet to take the carb apart and look it over
Another informative video. You have not seen a messy bench yet!😂
Wow, what a great video! Thank you Sir!!!
Short, sweet, and simple. Wish all my carbs were like that 😢. You know what I mean…..😊
I use non ethanol and echo oil. Great tips. Someone recommended using 2 cycle oil in the tank. Allow the porch to pass out through. What do you think of that.
My bench is the same. I have a few of those poulans around. They are not the best but they will do work.
That screen wasn't plugged with dust. It was plugged with varnished fuel and plastic fuel line that was degrading! No way can dust get into that unless its been run with no fuel filter!
Any time that you can actually see the surface of the workbench, it means it's a good organized bench!😆
What are your thoughts on stihls m tronic fuel injection. Are there parts that go bad other than fuel.
Always good information buddy !
i want (really badly) to see what a little of your cutting and grinding magic would do for that thing.. cant say ive ever seen one done plus i think a homeowner saw playlist would get mad views
I was hoping to see 026 in some wood 😂😂😂
You can pick these saws up for $10 or less just a few new parts and some muffler mods. Wakes them up and they run like a scalded dog.
Id love to see you port one of them machines
Wow my man it’s been awhile and I remember when you had less the 1K subs…. Well done!!!
Right..i know i was 675th subscriber lol
Hey Tinman, can you explain the aluminum vs. chrome bore on homeowner saws sometime?
Not sure what subscriber # I am, but been here since the Echo cs-670 and subbed sometime between there and the start of Caleb's cs-590!
I haven’t had to tear into to many of the carbs yet I have to Mac’s that I need to but they are on the shelf waiting their turn
I use Non ethanol fuel in all my small engines, its ready availbale around here because we have a lot of lakes and boats , boats dont like ethanol and i hate the stuff
Good video thank you

Tinman what mix ratio do you run with the opti 2?
45 to 50:1 for the last 10 years or so.
Don't clean the bench! You won't be able to find anything!
I have the EXACT saw the ol crapsman “special edition” pull the muffler off and open the fins up in the back. Gives you a hair more power and throttle response..really not much but gains is gains no? 😂
It will be nice to see the 026 in the wood.
well least it wasn't stubrin like the 026
Ethanol is the biggest scam! We are payin 5 bucks a gallon for 90% fuel...rediculous! Trying to get my old man to start getting non ethanol for his 2 strokes after fixing his hedge trimmer that was only a few years old. Fuel line was completely disintegrated
"And now for something totally different "...
Saying hi brother!
You and the family stay healthy!
Later🤙
It is stiff….
That’s what she said 🍻😆
no way ^) is it craftsman chainsaw - its my first chainsaw, only my is red.
i think craftsman id fale company, because telephone number printed om the saw ^)
and amortization system - not good
Dirty bench guy😅 new channel name my stihls don't sit
How's the Tinman and family
I know it not worthy of your time but you could port it so people like me can see what you come up with
Those Poulan based homeowner saws benefit good amount from muffler mod only.
@@Ketis1985 sure do
Doesn’t sound like it’s oiling
