Why I Love Comic Books

- I've always loved comic books and graphic novels. They truly are imaginative and allow new stories to be told that otherwise wouldn't. There's so many comics and characters I love including Batman, Superman, Supergirl, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Vampirella, Spider-Man, Black Cat, Captain America, Iron Man, The Watchmen and more. I adore how there's a version of these characters for everyone and also a mainline continuity that (usually) also stays true to the core version of said character. So whether you're reading something independent like Lady Death or a big mianstream character like Wolverine, here's why I absolutely love comic books.

I love comics too! My English teacher from college and her husband owns a comic shop!
That's really awesome! I'm glad their shop is still around too because I know a lot of them struggled the last couple of years.
@@DegenerateJay a lot of them are struggling because a majority of new comics are soulless and don’t sell. These new writers are creating characters and storylines for the loud people on twitter- who pretend to care but couldn’t be asked to read a comic even if it was free
I’m very thankful for Superheroes since I didn’t really have a real life strong male example for a large chunk of my life growing up. Superheroes are one of the things that literally helped raise me unfortunately. Comics and Superheroes are one of the things that inspired me to lift weights, take care, and upgrade my body. I always thought what’s the point of liking comics and Superheroes if you don’t look like one? (Or at least attempt to look like one)
Thank you to everyone involved with building the comic/Superhero genre for not just the entertainment, but the lessons. 🙏🏾💪🏾
This was really neat to read and I really appreciate it. I think it's very interesting that the characters were able to help build you up and be a better person!!!
just picked up a comic book.2 hours ago
Some of favorites are
Court of owls
Death of the family
Batman black mirror
Superman secret origin
Flash rebirth
Green lantern rebirth
Also can I just say, I can't believe how still Jill hold the camera, she is a master lol. I feels like you just have a stand you put the camera on
I love punisher max
Underrated Spider-Man issue. Wish they hadn't pushed the mephisto story right after that one
Yeah they really blew that one lmao
I didn’t start reading comics until I was 18 and I was missing out big time. 100% agree with all your points here. I was never a huge fan of the flash growing up, until I started reading more about Barry and what he stands for. He quickly became my favorite superhero of all time.
Flash is top tier. U must have read flash new 52, flash rebirth, flashpoint and flash tp?
I’m a heavy book reader, and I enjoy a lot of genres. I’m not much of a comic book reader and I’m trying to get into it. If anyone has any good comic book suggestions let me know. Also loved the video Jay.
What characters do you want to read?
@@kennyclips658 I was thinking of starting with any type of marvel character.
Not a comic but Fullmetal Alchemist is by far the most accessible manga series out there and it's still one of the greats. My Hero Academia is another obvious choice if you're into Marvel/DC. If you're looking for something with a more mature edge, I recommend stories like Blade of the Immortal, Monster or any of Inoue Asano's works.
@@victorperez4782 thank you. I definitely have to look into the blade comics.
Hawkeye by fraction, trust me it's great
I recently started reading Batman comics and I’ve been really enjoying it

@@aa-jf5gu that’s a great list. You’ve really chosen some of the best.
Hi Jay, if you had to choose 3 of your favourite comic characters who would they be, for me it'd be Harley Quinn, Black Cat and Doctor Aphra! My favourite comic has to be Harley Quinn breaking glass, I love the art direction and the story about gentrification and the spin on DC characters, you should really read it! I really agree with the video and on how comics are a way of art that gives you the pictures but also makes you think about them too. I also love comics like The Amazing Mary Jane and The Killing Joke. Fantastic Video :)) I kind of want to start reading Vampierella but have no idea where to start, I kind of want to read some Vampierella DC crossover comics. I think what you saying about if you don't like a character on screen there is going to be a comic version of them more to your taste and I couldn't agree with this more
Great topic for the video Jay and Jill
pesonally my favorite comicbook series has to be Batman the long halloween!
I'd love to see you talk more about some of your favorite comics! Some of my favorite batman comics are Cult, The Last Arkham, No Mans Land, A serious house, Penguin Triumphant, My own worst enemy, Batman vs Predator.
So I've never read Batman vs Predator and I know there's a few different series of it. Are they all good or is it mainly just the first one you think is worth peoples time? I'm interested to hear what you think. PS. Thank you! :)
@@DegenerateJay The first one is really good! They made a bunch of sequels but none are as good as the first one.
Yes.
One thing I'll always love about comics is the variety of art and creativity alot if them have, some are cartoony, some are realistic, some are a mix of both like BONE, I like DCAU or Spider-Man big time kinds of art, this cartoony sharp edge like style, Blacksad has this super realistic grounded detailed design, or BONE a mix of cartoon and realistic designs.
Disney's Gargoyles comic series also has this cartoon gritty like design, I don't really know how to explain it haha!!
But regardless the art is always alot of fun, usually, if it isn't then I'll just ignore it lol
Luv the video little comic book fan myself
Great video love the passion and the avatar comics are very fun
Comics are the ultimate form of story telling, more so than film, audio & novels because the real world isn't the limit rather it's strictly the artist & writer that are the limit
Great video. Comics (both American & Japanese) are my top 3 favorite mediums ever & you have the same reasons as to why I love them so much.
Great Video! Comic books are amazing and i wish more people would read them..
Great video!
another really great video!
Thank you very much!!!
I absolutely love comics. Usually I read them online, but I got my first physical one, Batman year one, a couple days ago, and I think I won't have a bank account anymore...it will be a void.
I really enjoyed Dark Knight Last Crusade as well and wish that Miller would do a few more things set earlier on in his universe and decanonize All Star Batman and Robin because that really drags down his whole continuity.
Comics are just amazing
Same thing why I loved to read manga.
Just reread Bendis’s Daredevil comic run with Alex Maleev doing the incredible art. EASILY one of the best long going runs on a character I’ve ever read, can’t recommend the omnibuses enough. The recent Immortal Hulk series by Al Ewing I had a blast reading as well
The little 'collection' I got of Spider-Man Omnibuses I got have been great reads overall. Two are of the original The Amazing Spider-Man comics, one's the first part of the Clone Saga, and the last is Spider-Gwen. Personally I like the two TASM omnibuses most of the lot, but Clone Saga part one really made me love Ben Reilly as a character. Not to mention how it contains issue 400 of TASM, with it having one of the greatest character sends-off that should've been left alone, and not been done away with in future issues.
I'm planning on getting the DC comics involving Ratcatcher's first appearances, but I'm waiting a while before getting around to that. There's also the Fantastic Four Omnibuses that I'd like to get, too.
Ok, but when are we getting the Degenerate Jay manga? 😑🤔
I like comics but they are hard to find and read them, simply due to not only my area doesn't have a comic book store, but in today's standards of how everyone uses the Internet now to read articles.
I also love comics
I read online, would love a physical copy tho
Hey jay where did you get that shirt from it’s sick?
i still like comic, dont really buy the new ones nowadays for reasons. i like to get some old ones and favorite storylines. i also get manga too
I don’t mind comic book overall I just don’t have the time to check them out when I get the chance that just me
where did you get that shirt i want it
One of my favorite comics I’ve read recently is “Harleen” by Stjepan Šejić. Heartbreaking and beautiful.
Comics books 😍😍😍 r the best
U and jshockblast sound eerily similar
Is Watchmen worth reading I'm kinda new here
Yeah it definitely is. It's art & smart dialogue still holds up. Even Snyder's film is a good substitute tho it has some changes.
@@Comicbroe405 ok then will give it a try
@@officialceoofyoutube Yeah sure.
Well it’s not your traditional comic but it’s really good , I’d start with Batman comics Like year one
I adore Watchmen but it's a dense read. It's more of a deconstruction of comics and superhero morality. It's definitely worth reading but I wouldn't randomly jump into it if you haven't been reading comics for long (I'm not sure if you have or not).
Talk about comics more
Woke
