  • Opel has released another electric car to help kiwis kick their petrol habits, and it's called a Mokka-e; a great looking, decent value, European EV.
But do the car's funky looks actually live up to the hype? How far does it go? And most importantly, how much does it cost? As always, Gav finds out.
Thinking of going electric for the savings, but don't know where to start? Now that petrol's permanently expensive, check out our EV Buyer's Guide to find an electric vehicle in your price range, with your desired range: buyersguide.ecotricity.nz/
And if you're keen on minimising your footprint on our planet's fragile ecosystem, why not switch to using 100% renewable electricity? With Ecotricity you can do that right now.
Plus, you might be surprised to see how much money you'll save, being New Zealand's only carbonzero Certified electricity provider with very competitive rates. Check out www.ecotricity.co.nz to join the future!

Congratulations on the award, you deserve it not only for the cars but also for the boat and buses.
The Mokka-e is the fastest of the Mokka family, but is slow because it needs to be distinguished from the Grandland PHEV. Which only starts at 160kW, but is significantly heavier.

In AU I am one of the many people who just charge their EV from a granny charger. Done charging for months this way and never run dry. Whenever you are home you just charge up. $3500 is a lot of cost that some drivers don't need to spend on top of buying an EV.

The tech in the ultimate version of this is absolutely amazing, I bought my girlfriend one picked it up with 1 mile on the clock got rid of it with 1000 miles on, absolutely horrendous range, drove 57 miles and used 85% of the battery, 60mph in eco, freezing with no heating on and using regen breaking when stopping 😳 also cost more to run than the BMWs I have had in the past and the one I have replaced this with

Those licence plates are quite funny in Norwegian. That O looks like our letter Ø which means for a Norwegian it translates to: "The sh*t".

Did my first chargenet charge just a couple hours ago, just to try it. It's a good option, only one stall in Bulls though.

The interior looks very "20th century built-to-a-budget model", compared to the EVs coming out of China. And not in a good way. The camera must have distorted the shots of the exterior, because that looks like nothing special either. But congrats on the award, and keep up the good work!

Hey Gavin - Are there any affordable EVs out there that actually have good ground clearance? Say 230mm? I really really like the Rivian but it's so expensive. And the tesla model 3 is 140mm and scrapes all over the place on everything...

    • @EcotricityNZ
      @EcotricityNZ  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi Peter, that is an excellent question. I thought perhaps the MG ZS EV would be good but it seems on only have a ground clearance of 170mm, however I did a bit of searching around and found that many of the Audi e-tron models with adjustable suspension can be raised up to 223mm with "off road" mode if that helps. -Gav

Enjoy the vids but nit sure why you don’t evaluate the primary systems in evs.
The huge issue with a lot of the new evs is lack of systems integration and ability to update over the air or even at dealer firmware and vehicle systems
Similar to buying first android phones where you could not update operating system or download apps.
Huge issue when problems are identified with drive train, Battery system or car systems. Will obviously result in huge depreciation as these cars are basically “throw away” vehicles
You expend a lot of energy bragging that you are Dutch so the only thing that matters is the original purchase price. Most Dutch I know are a lot smarter than that and look at value for money or total cost of ownership which you are completely ignoring

By the looks it doesn't have rear air vents for passenger's nor does it have electric adjustable drivers seat. Such a shame as for the money it costs you would expect it to have these things! The BYD and MG have these things and are much cheaper so I don't think this Mokka-e is value for money.
