    Electric SUVs are all the rage at the moment, but what do you do if you're on a budget? The UK Government's plug-in car grant gives £2,500 off the price of an electric car as long as it cost less than £35,000. And the Vauxhall Mokka-e and some versions of the Skoda Enyaq fall into this category and we think they're two of the best on the market.
    Why? They're both stylish, roomy and offer plenty of range for your cash but if we have to be picky, which one is best? Nicki Shields and Tom Ford find out.
    Thanks for joining us on our journey to 'Clear the Air' around hybrid and electric cars, we have new videos arriving every week (a mix of studio explainers and road tests) so please subscribe to the channel to find out more!

    I've owned 4 Skodas in the last 20+ years, and been happy with all of them. The fact the Enyaq has had excellent reviews, and it look really good, particularly the interior, would swing it for me. Oh, and Skoda having 75,000 orders for the Enyaq says a lot too. Mokka looks ok, and that standard 100kw charging is a big plus. But next to the Enyaq, and for not much more money? No competition for me. In the last few years Skoda have really started nailing it, producing cars people are happy to go for on the basis of looks and quality. Which now seems to be every bit as good - if not slightly better - than VW itself.....

    I have bought a Mokka E - at the time of writing this you can have one for £30k with top spec, a base Enyaq 60 costs £35k, with just the basics, if you spec one similar to the Mokka it costs more like £40k.....so I am sorry, but can't really see how you can compare these two, very different price ranges

  • @Mike-pl1dz
    @Mike-pl1dz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The government lowering the threshold to £32k has made this comparison pretty pointless. The absolute cheapest Enyak was coming in at £110 a month more than the ultimate Mokka e on pcp and its around £5k more expensive now. The cheapest Enyaq is missing so much equipment compared to the Mokka e, especially if you look at the ultimate version. Even if you ignore the difference in cost, newer VAG cars have so many software issues at the moment that it's just not worth the risk, I know first hand what an absolute nightmare it is. With that in mind, I've ordered a Mokka e ultimate and it'll cost me 15% less per month than my piss poor Octavia IV, I can't wait to swap.

    The problem here is the Skoda is better all round and better value - which means more people are encouraged to buy huge cars they don't really need; a Skoda version of the id 3 instead of 4 would be much more suitable for UK parking spaces. • @trevorberridge6079
    @trevorberridge6079 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This comparison review starts out with some quite common mathematical ignorance. They say the Enyaq does 257 on a 58wkh battery and the Mokka-e does 200 miles on a 45kwh battery. This seems to suggest that the Enyaq is more economical. But when you crunch the numbers the Enyaq does 4.43 miles per kwh and the Mokka-e does 4.44 miles per kwh. The Enyaq goes further on a bigger battery, but it has a fraction less efficiency than the Mokka-e. Furthermore the Enyaq goes 28.5% further than the Mokka-e, but it has 28.8% more battery capacity. So the Mokka-e battery has more efficient energy distribution, if only by a fraction. So, that's actually a win on battery for the Mokka-e, not the Enyaq.
    Furthermore, it is common (and wrong in my opinion) to compare EVs on the distance you get for the money you spend. But if you do, the Enyaq goes 57 miles further for an extra £1500 purchase price. That's £26.32 for every extra mile of range. If you go by battery size instead that's £115.38 for every extra kwh of capacity. That's almost exactly the market cost for 1kwh of battery cells.

    At 09:00 minutes in, when Nicki states the much-quoted "I like the high seating position" comment for the Mokka E (pretty much the same argument EVERY SUV driver relies upon to justify their selfish choice to drive an aerodynamically-inefficient vehicle, using up approximately 20% more energy resource than the equivalent hatchback / estate car) - for the most part, it is, at best, just a marketing illusion the manufacturers use to 'sell you' into a more expensive model or, at worst, it's just plain wrong...!
    The disability-specialist research website RiDC quotes the maximum driver's seat height for the e2008 stable-mate of the Mokka E (which they have not yet tested) as being 67cm from the ground.
    The Renault Zoe's driver's seat height is 65cm - I mean, come on...! In anybody's book, 2cm is absolutely NOT going to make the difference between 'seeing safely over the car infront' or not, is it? Nor, surely, would 2cm honestly be worth the loss of EV range (245 miles vs 200ish) due to the poorer aerodynamics.
    And, in fact, by far THE best seating position in a family hatchback is the VW iD.3 at 70cm - so more than the supposedly 'high-riding' Mokka SUV...

      Bring back the '70s colours, I say. Beats the blacks, greys and whites of today.

    Why do all male reviewers think they are Clarkson or Hammond that's all been done before the lady is great do I detect badge snobbery here mokka looks great and you pay a lot more for the extras on Skoda

    The Mokka E is by das the worst ev you can buy. It offers non of the features that define an ev. Lackluster acceleration, no good handling and very outdated software and instruments. The enjaq is an entirely different beast in comparison.
