    The rifle arrived today and I dialed in the scope just a couple hours ago th-cam.com/users/postUgkxQt2uORDRfFOVSrO4idv4B90ThT6EOnEL . I haven’t shot with a scope in probably 25 years. The X on the left was my target. (the shot almost in the bullseye on the right X was my father in laws first shot after I made adjustments) The two shots circled are my first 2 shots. Then I brought it down - shot once. Then brought it over to the left. From there zeroed it in to dead center. This all was from 25 yards out. Follow instructions carefully when mounting the scope. So far I'm very happy with the purchase.

    Best off the shelf gun is the Browning as far as getting lucky with a ringer imho.
    Budget custom ringer, buy an older 700 Sendero, you could probably pick one up on gun broker for less that a grand (Chromoly). Buy a jewel trigger 1 pound or less, Vias break and Sendero cut Krieger Barrel in SS. Figure out 9:02 what cal your going to shoot (280AI is a great one that’s not talked about much). Have Dave Kiff send you a chamber reamer with zero freebore (let the gunsmith set the freebore) and a go gauge for the cal you decide on. Build a bullet without power and primer (just an empty brass and bullet) ship it off to a good gunsmith (one who’s in the bench rest or FClass shooting crowd preferably those guys have the knowledge of what it takes to shoot a single hole group with 5 rounds) You can hard chrome your action and have it bead blasted to match the barrel (Chromoly is a more rigged steel and won’t galled like SS) Top it off with a Mark 5 the rest is up to the shooter.

    Yeah the Tikka T3x should have been on this list along with the Christensen Ridgeline FFT .300 Win at 5.64 lbs. I have owned several of both and they have all been excellent rifles ...Good video though, thanks 👍

    • @2S1L3NT

      Except the bolt/receiver fit and feel of the Christensen after handling a Tikka will make you vomit, and then sell that rifle to a local buyer. Speaking from experience.

    The Mossberg Patriot is very hit or miss. My brother has one in 7mm rem mag and it's a tack driver, I have one in 300 win mag and I've tried three different scopes almost every brand of ammo in my area and I have yet to get it sighted in. I'll get it nearly sighted in and the next trip out to finish it up and it won't even hit within the same area

    • @billsharko3007
      @billsharko3007 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have a Mossberg Patriot in 375 Ruger and have the same problem just won't shoot a descent group no matter what. Mossberg rifles are a crap shoot you might luck out and get a good one but the odds are stacked against you.

    • @markgraham8854
      @markgraham8854 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mossberg Patriot should never have made this list. I know now to scroll right on by anything from these fools.

    • @dholiday9315
      @dholiday9315 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don’t mean any offense, but nearly sighted in isn’t even logical. If it were a problem with the rifle, or scope, it would be apparent and obvious immediately.
      If everything is installed properly from base to scope, and you get it on paper at 25 yards. Shoot a group at 100, spaced out a minute or two apart to take any heat out of the equation. Use a sled if you’re not confident in your abilities.
      If it won’t group at a minimum of a couple of inches at 100 with any ammo known to man… you’re research is done send it back. This is a 5-10 shot experiment that should be a 30 minute range session.
      Scope installation and 200 yard zero on a .300 WM is an hour job at most if you’re taking your time. It sounds like something is as off with the rifle. Make sure you’re leveling the scope, torquing properly, and doing the job at the trigger.
      Good luck, hopefully you get it figured out and get to shooting for tight groups or dead critters soon enough.

    • @ghostrobinson1879
      @ghostrobinson1879 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bought the patriot for first 300 WM for hunting out west in NM. Killed a bull at 350 yards and a cow at 300 yards. But getting consistent groups after 3 rounds was impossible. Only accurate with a cold barrel - so range time was lengthy to allow barrel to cool completely between rounds- after a couple hunt decided I would purchase a higher quality rifle and went with browning xbolt hells canyon. It’s heavier but love the accuracy and trigger is crisp. Patriot was an entry but quality was lacking

    • @2S1L3NT
      @2S1L3NT ปีที่แล้ว

      My 300 WM Christensen MPR was the same. Sold it in the classifieds after failing to get a good group with it with various ammo. Also the bolt would hang up if you didn't push it forward perfectly straight. F THAT RIFLE.

    When I was in Alaska hunting brown bears, the skinning shed windowsill was covered with thirty caliber slugs taken from bears that were just killed, mostly with 375 and 338s. A personal friend of mine shot a big brownie with his 300 win. Front shoulder shot. Bear disappeared with no trace. Did he miss at a hundred yards?? I don’t think so. I had advised him to take his 375 but he was convinced that the 300 was enough. The hunt then was 15 grand. Probably double that now. LESSON LEARNED THE HARD WAY. !! 🤔

      A 30-06 can barely hit 3000 fps with a 150gr bullet (24" barrel).
      You'd be lucky to hit 2400 fps with 225 gr bullets from the 30-06.

    can think of a ton of rifles I would buy before a .300 win mag, have a .300 Weatherby and don't much like it either. 30-06 is really hard to beat, for anything that walks on this side of the planet. buy a quality rifle and never look back. you only have to buy quality once.

      30-06 is great for grandpa, but it's so outdated and comically underforms vs so many current offerings. Most all 30-06 fanboys are stuck on the round because daddy had one and it was the first rifle they shot as a kid.

      Good luck going to Alaska as a nonresident to hunt brown bear with anything under a .375. Guides won't let you hunt with anything less, even if it would do the job.

      Living in Alaska myself, I can say that a 30-06 is enough gun for anything here, and you can actually find ammo for it. It went through all but a couple inches on a 1200 pound moose, and the animal only walked about 10 yards and then dropped.
