    My Gawd.
    This review had sealed the deal for me.
    Riding for over 25 years, I'm done with big displacements.
    I want something smaller for around the town and work.
    I was gonna get the R3 but this has more bang for the buck.
    Plus I've owned two Yamahas.
    Lemme try this one next.

      China Teves it’s a fun bike that wants to lean in corners and is very lightweight. I’ve ridden mine at COTA for track day. For track, It will need adjustable suspension for a heavier person, for comfort according to my boyfriend who has one also . The cutout in the plastic is indeed for a power outlet. Get a good one from Kawasaki (the cheap ones get water in them and burn out fast we learned this first hand). Ergonomically, not a comfortable situation for 2-up. It’s quicker than the Honda CBR500 and the R3....a lot! Let them brag and leave them in the dust😇

    i just love how these new 400's look like a big boy bike so you don't look so silly small on it, like a 250-300. definitely a great price for the power. no reason for me to spend 12+ grand on a 600-650 when i can get a 400 for 5300 with abs. Kawasaki is now the undisputed entry level king.

      Better to just get a lightly used bike for better overall components. Got a used 2008 16k miles zx10r for $4500. You just cant beat that. 16k miles ain't shit. Still have my zx6r with almost 50k miles I bought in 2012 with 9k miles for even more than the zx10r at $4800 lol

      @Nightraid yourface it's not the bike, sounds like an electronic problem. maybe the microphone or camera is getting feedback. It doesn't go on the entire time but for the first 3 minutes it is very loud. the camera work around 3:00 is fine, no high-pitched tone. must be something with his tripod setup causing the sound.

    Awsome video, so refreshing to see content on a smaller bike that is unbiased and doesn't sound like run of mill liter bike this liter bike that. I started on a ninja 250 and was out riding guys on 600's before selling it and now looking to pick up one of these. It's definitely more fun to ring out a small agile bike than to have to look for a safe spot or pay track fees just to experience the power band in a big bore bike let alone its full potential.

    Great review, thanks for sharing this! My only comment is on ABS: Even expert riders I know on the street prefer ABS. It's not needed if you really know what you're doing (like Marc Marquez kind of expertise) but any less skill and a panic braking moment is virtually guaranteed to cause a bad day at some point in a riding career. Every single rider I know who crashed did so for a limited number of reasons: Fear of cornering, target fixation, or panic braking. The most common cause is panic braking by far, locking the front wheel and going down instantly. My recommendation is ABS for all riders, unless you're limited to the track only and really want the feedback that non-ABS provides while tail braking into the corners.

    • @2WR
      @2WR  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Eric, you make some good points and I don't necessarily disagree. For me, I'd go without and put the money toward some Ohlins drops ins for the front forks, but if I were to get one it would be limited to pretty much track days. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.

    If you're going to put a 12v socket or USB charger in the dummy plug hole, you MUST purchase and install a Kawasaki relay ($24 Amazon), I just installed a USB charger up front , and a 12v socket is now ready, under the passenger seat. LOVE my 2018 Ninja 400 KRT edition (lime-green) ABS which, at age 73, bought for my 74th birthday. Two days ago I turned 75 and look forward to riding the bike as often as the weather lets me, which is pretty often because it doesn't snow much in south Florida ; ).

    The Ninja imho has plenty of power, it's just a matter of knowing where the power lies. I've found it's actually better to short shift the bike up to 3rd or 4th gear before you really start wringing it out, otherwise you fall off the torque curve between first and second gear.

    Nice looking bike and looking at that really small pipe sticking out the end of the exhaust it seems the performance could be greatly improved with an aftermarket exhaust. As far as not having a TFT dash my bike does have one but I miss the dial for RPM's. Just something about that needle going up and down going through the revs compared to square dots lighting up. I thought the end was funny when he said "this bike wasn't designed for a passenger". I ride with a friend who has this same Ninja 400 and he rides with his GF on the back, keeping up with me at speeds of around 90+ on back country roads. I've also owned many sports bikes and aside from highway racing, these bikes function exactly the way you would need them to function. The real argument against them is about having more horsepower. But if your not into risking your licence/self to hit 160+ freeway speeds then I'd encourage people to get these kind of bikes and treat them like sports bikes if they want. The sad side of owning a 600rr or 1000rr is that 90% of your day to day riding you won't even tap into it's power. You might occasionally go from zero to 60 in a couple seconds to close gaps in traffic, or to pass slow vehicles. But for the bulk of your riding experience your going to be riding within certain limits despite the rocket that's strapped to your balls.

    Great review Mario, very in depth love the tech specs and all! Something you could improve on is the audio on and off the bike, majority of the on bike part was very difficult to hear with the wind and everything, maybe have a look at the chaseon2wheels/motonosity helmet setups, their audio is usually top notch. Looking forward to more of these, you got a new sub.

    Nice review, you covered a lot. There is a little high pitch whine early in the video that seems to go away. You might want to look into that. Good to see you did not overuse the word "beginners bike", far too many reviewers do when they review lighter bikes. Been riding 45 years still appreciate lighter bikes. Some of us older veterans keep a good range of bikes around.

    • @2WR
      @2WR  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Kerry. (The noise was from the tank. What you hear squealing is the vent due to the hot sun on the black tank. Took me awhile to figure it out which is why you see the fuel cap open later in the video to relieve the pressure. I did what I could to edit it out most of it in post). In any event, I'm not sure why everyone likes to refer to all the small displacement bikes as beginner when they can be a lot of run for experienced riders as well...and without breaking the bank.

    Well done Video. Would like to know how it does on off roading (not trail - just a little on gravel roads). I ride a CB500X and like it, but have 62,000 miles on it and thinking maybe trade (the CB500X is a bit tall, but I can flat foot, and it weighs in at 425 lbs).

      It's lightweight and nimble enough, it'll handle gravel roads fine. Just keep in mind it doesn't have a ton of suspension travel so while well groomed gravel roads are fine, those with potholes will cause from problems.

    Great Video I have the Versys X 300 and love it, but if they put the 400 engine in it, I will be trading up. I like the off road and dirt road ability of the Versys X How dose the 400 do for MPG The other thing I like about the Versys is the 17 liter tank (4.49 US gallons ) don't like having to look for gas, just fill up and rid all day.

    • @2WR
      @2WR  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It'd be interesting if they would decide to put the 400 in the Versys; could be a big seller! As for the mpg that's one thing I never test. Due to my filming process I don't believe it would give an accurate representation of how it would actually do under normal riding conditions.

    • @hildtonmcconnell5626
      @hildtonmcconnell5626 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@2WR I all ways liked it when they put MPG on there test rides, as they ride a bit harder than normal, so then I know I will at least get that or better MPG. Many years ago some magazines would put low high and average mpg, and with the size of tank you could get how often you would be looking for gas. I will never by a bike that dose not get a good range per tank of gas. nothing worse than spoiling a good ride having to look for gas stations, and wondering if you are going to make it to the next station.

      Gonna be tough to explain in writing but I don't use it except at possible low speeds through town. Just back off the throttle and shift. You can do it that way in a car too, it will slide right into gear. If you do it correctly, all is good but if you don't...you can seriously screw up the transmission.

    • @2WR
      @2WR  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I normally only have to adjust a chain once per set of tires. Most manufacturers recommend oiling the chain every 600 miles or so. You’d also want to oil it after you wash the bike to keep the chain from rusting. Cleaning/degreasing the chain? If you’re not riding in the rain or dusty conditions, maybe once or twice per set of tires or once annually.

    If possible do you know if the bike is suitable for shorter riders? I’m about 5”2 and I sat on one a while ago (as I was intending it to be my first bike) but found the pegs getting a little in the way of my foot placement, I’m not sure if that’s due to my height or the stance I was taking, regardless I’ve been riding for a few months now and am still planning on getting a 400 for a next bike but am a bit worried about the height, and by extension the weight of it. Due to my small height I’m unsure how much strength I can muster to save this thing should it go off balance. My current bike isn’t too hard to manage but is 30kg lighter. Sorry for the long comment but was curious how well you think I could operate this considering all these factors?
