Can remember sitting with my mom, in the late 80’s, as a kid, listening to this song on the radio, as she did the laundry and I would keep her company. One of the best random memories I have of her. RIP Mom.
Few people, if any, knew in 1983 that this song started off in 1963 with Burt Bacharach and Hal David. First recorded as a Demo by Dionne Warwick, Released as a song by Lou Johnson in 1964, Released as a song by Sandie Shaw in 1965, then by Naked Eyes in 1983. Great music comes around again. And some of the greatest sounds come from the 1980's. Thanks Naked Eyes for keeping the tune alive and well for 40 years. May it play happily for eternity.
Of course in 1983 it peaked to No.8 in the Billboard Hot 100 that year and still the most popular version today and Burt Bacharach has grown to love this version.
I was 27 and met the love of my entire life. Am now 67. We were dating when this came out. Three years later we were engaged. Six weeks from our wedding, she called it off. Three months later got a pho e call that she had passed at 57.Heart break does not begin to describe it.

Yeah, it was great. The mid-to-late 70s dirge pop songs that were popular such as Firefall's "You Are the Women", etc used the most depressing melodies ever. Possibly the most depressing is "Goodbye Girl" from David Gates of Bread. Total suicide music, lol. There must have been tens of thousands of people who killed themselves while listening to those songs and thinking of a lost lover or lost childhood. Almost all of that music had that quality about it. The Little River Band, Al Stewart, Bonnie Tyler ("It's a Heartache"), etc. The only salvation were rock groups like Van Halen, etc. Then the 80s came and smashed all of that depressing crap to pieces thankfully. The early 80s produced the best pop music since the Beatles. Unfortunately it didn't last long, because starting in the mid 80s, Pop became somber and depressing again "Life in a Northern Town," or commercialized corporate songwriter crap such as Heart's "These Dreams," which was absolutely dreadful. But even though it only lasted a few years, the early 80s produced a huge catalogue of excellent pop songs that were incredibly moving without being depressing. Eurythmics, The Human League, Naked Eyes, Tears For Fears, Cyndi Lauper, Journey, The Police, Culture Club, Men At Work, etc etc. Too many to list. The output was amazing.
British music from the early 80s is the most enjoyable thing to listen to. The vocals are full of feeling, a desperation to live, a hunger for love. Definitely a musical expression that never gets old!

You travel back in time creating an alternate universe separate from the main universe in which you live the rest of your days in the 80s. Whatever happens in that alternate universe at any point in time cannot affect the main one as they become two entirely different branches so you can stop horrible events like 9/11 but in the main universe that will always be set. Time traveling ain't simple but it would certainly be fun.

@@samsteel2643 A beautiful interpretation of a classic song. As someone born in the sixties, I sorely miss that many of todays artist don't recognize the value of embracing the past to cast the future.
This is the NAKED EYES signature song. The main song developed by the fine English band is a cheerful bouncy type of "feel good" song. It's a work of art. I just love it. The '80s never go away.
@@vincesmith2499 This is the best version of this song. Dionne Warwick, and Lou Johnson have written the original version. Naked Eyes, however, is the most beautiful melody of all of them.

Keep rocking all and this song plated in my head most day and si I'm sitting in my car listening and reading about all you 80s crazies ..
"IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII was borrrrrrrrrrrn to love herrrrrrrrr!" I've had that lyric in my head about my first love for 24 years. She passed away in 2009, but she's always gonna the one for me, no matter who I meet.
I bet she was just as lucky to have you as you were to have her, hope that some day I can find someone who will share a relationship with as much love as the one you had.
This song, original version, just popped into my head as I climbed the stairs heading to bed. Could have been years since I tho't of it. How I feel about a woman now, after trying so many times to forget about her. Harsh words mean goodbye to me, but not her. After she says 'ok, then leave, I have many other men better than you begging for my attention', I know she is right, so I block her on chat, but after a day or 2 she finds a way to contact me, usually via a friend,, and asks 'are you happy now'? NO! I can never be free, she will always be a part of me? Part of my insecurity is she is a super star, 4M fans on IG, so beautiful, so young, so far out of my league, but somehow she truly loves me!? Trying not to over react anymore, and just quit doubting...
I haven't stopped listening to it since I purchased the album on cassette 2 days after it's US release in 1982. I still have that same cassette tape in my possession 42 yrs later!
the intro is spectacular!!! followed by that synth reverberating. That song transport me to my last days of school (1983). I was happy and I hadn't knew it..
No question - the Brits were (are) unbelievable! it wouldn't be nearly the same without them. BUT this song was written by an American. You might have heard of him - Burt Bacharach! Maybe the Brits and us are better together?
10 years old when this came out. I think ive enjoyed it everytime I've heard it since. Totally gives me the 80s nostalgia feel you get only if you were there to experience it. Miss those days.
This song will definitely live on for generations to come. Godspeed 🙏 Mr. Burt Bacharach thank you for your wonderful music and touched our lives with incredible lyrics and melodies.
I walk along the city streets you used to walk along with me And every step I take reminds me of just how we used to be Well, how can I forget you, girl? When there is always something there to remind me Always something there to remind me As shadows fall, I pass a small cafe where we would dance at night And I can't help recalling how it felt to kiss and hold you tight Well, how can I forget you, girl? When there is always something there to remind me Always something there to remind me I was born to love her, and I will never be free You'll always be a part of me Oh whoa ooh whoa ooh whoa oh If you should find you miss the sweet and tender love we used to share Just go back to the places where we used to go and I'll be there Well, how can I forget you, girl? When there is always something there to remind me Always something there to remind me I was born to love her, and I will never be free You'll always be a part of me 'Cause there is always something there to remind me Always something there to remind me
This song means something different when you have someone in mind. How could I forget you. Theres always something there to remind me of you. Thank you for being in my life for a short while.

Until now,I had no idea who was responsible for this catchy, moving masterpiece, always gets my pulse racing. One of those great songs that just grabs you heart and soul.
It was a pretty great place after so much turmoil in the 70’s, but some great music in that decade began the journey into greater melody & richer sound…until grunge stomped on it!
The arrangement of this song from Naked Eyes is far more superior than the original ever was. This is one of the very few songs that actually had the remake outshining the original. Spectacular.
The church bells in this song have haunted me for twenty six years. I remember taping this on my old boost phone just to loop beginning. Adore this song. ❤
Another classic 60s song. Dionne recorded it first. Works on every level. Great intro and it was a time period of musical exploration, fusing bits of different genres.
One of my all-time favourites! I am 64 years old (but still feel as I did when this 'modern' version came out in 1983) and can still remember hearing it on the radio in the late 1960's. Fell in love with this song all over again when the fantastic group "Naked Eyes" covered it--bravo to them for the excellent video they produced as it perfectly captures the meaning/lyrics/soul of this yet-another masterpiece created by Burt Bacharach--God Bless him and may his soul rest in peace 😇.

@@samsteel2643 A beautiful interpretation of a classic song. As someone born in the sixties, I sorely miss that many of todays artist don't recognize the value of embracing the past to cast the future.

I wasn’t alive in the 80’s
okay boomer
Good old days!!!
This is the NAKED EYES signature song. The main song developed by the fine English band is a cheerful bouncy type of "feel good" song. It's a work of art. I just love it. The '80s never go away.
This is a cover.
@@vincesmith2499 This is the best version of this song. Dionne Warwick, and Lou Johnson have written the original version. Naked Eyes, however, is the most beautiful melody of all of them.
@@vincesmith2499it may not be the original, but it’s definitely the definitive. Even Bacharach himself said that.

Keep rocking all and this song plated in my head most day and si I'm sitting in my car listening and reading about all you 80s crazies ..
"IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII was borrrrrrrrrrrn to love herrrrrrrrr!"
I've had that lyric in my head about my first love for 24 years. She passed away in 2009, but she's always gonna the one for me, no matter who I meet.
You are inspiring, I am sorry for your loss.
I bet she was just as lucky to have you as you were to have her, hope that some day I can find someone who will share a relationship with as much love as the one you had.
I'm sorry brother. Press on man life keeps going.
😢 I’m sorry for your loss.

Who Else is Listening to this Classic in 2024?

Timeless.

Such a good songggg, the UK definitely produced some of the greatest artists!
The Brits were the force behind 80s music I’d say
That’s the biggest understatement ever 😂👌
No question - the Brits were (are) unbelievable! it wouldn't be nearly the same without them. BUT this song was written by an American. You might have heard of him - Burt Bacharach! Maybe the Brits and us are better together?
Bacharach/David masterpiece even for the SynthPop generation. How cool was Burt? RIP, maestro.
In my memories, the 80s were just good times and music is always there to remind me.

I walk along the city streets you used to walk along with me
And every step I take reminds me of just how we used to be
Well, how can I forget you, girl?
When there is always something there to remind me
Always something there to remind me
As shadows fall, I pass a small cafe where we would dance at night
And I can't help recalling how it felt to kiss and hold you tight
Well, how can I forget you, girl?
When there is always something there to remind me
Always something there to remind me
I was born to love her, and I will never be free
You'll always be a part of me
Oh whoa ooh whoa ooh whoa oh
If you should find you miss the sweet and tender love we used to share
Just go back to the places where we used to go and I'll be there
Well, how can I forget you, girl?
When there is always something there to remind me
Always something there to remind me
I was born to love her, and I will never be free
You'll always be a part of me
'Cause there is always something there to remind me
Always something there to remind me
