And it's not just an old fogey reminiscing about a bygone era-I'm a musician who used to be professional, and I can tell when a song has been written and performed by true talent, and that no longer exists. Yeah, it was great. The mid-to-late 70s dirge pop songs that were popular such as Firefall's "You Are the Women", etc used the most depressing melodies ever. Possibly the most depressing is "Goodbye Girl" from David Gates of Bread. Total suicide music, lol. There must have been tens of thousands of people who killed themselves while listening to those songs and thinking of a lost lover or lost childhood. Almost all of that music had that quality about it. The Little River Band, Al Stewart, Bonnie Tyler ("It's a Heartache"), etc. The only salvation were rock groups like Van Halen, etc. Then the 80s came and smashed all of that depressing crap to pieces thankfully. The early 80s produced the best pop music since the Beatles. Unfortunately it didn't last long, because starting in the mid 80s, Pop became somber and depressing again "Life in a Northern Town," or commercialized corporate songwriter crap such as Heart's "These Dreams," which was absolutely dreadful. But even though it only lasted a few years, the early 80s produced a huge catalogue of excellent pop songs that were incredibly moving without being depressing. Eurythmics, The Human League, Naked Eyes, Tears For Fears, Cyndi Lauper, Journey, The Police, Culture Club, Men At Work, etc etc. Too many to list. The output was amazing.
My older sister really liked this song, it now has a special place in my heart. She had Down's syndrome and had died when i was only four years old. Although i do not have many memories of her, I still miss her.

It was a pretty great place after so much turmoil in the 70’s, but some great music in that decade began the journey into greater melody & richer sound…until grunge stomped on it!
As I read your comment about freez ing time a great 80s hit and wildy band J.Giles Band / Freeze Frame lol oh and my Angel is a centerfold huge hit ps my daughter name is Angel 😇 😇 the eighties yes if we could freeze time. Keep rocking all and this song plated in my head most day and si I'm sitting in my car listening and reading about all you 80s crazies ..
You travel back in time creating an alternate universe separate from the main universe in which you live the rest of your days in the 80s. Whatever happens in that alternate universe at any point in time cannot affect the main one as they become two entirely different branches so you can stop horrible events like 9/11 but in the main universe that will always be set. Time traveling ain't simple but it would certainly be fun.
This song shows the amazing songwriting talent of Burt Bacharach and Hal David. It was first recorded by Dionne Warwick in 1963 and has been re-recorded another four times including this version by Naked Eyes.
Re-makes are nice when done with quality such as this. A lot of people don't know a lot of good music of late 70s&80s were remakes. Like what blonde did. Some people think that some songs are lesbian that Deb H.sings. Infact they were boy band songs from the 60s
@@samsteel2643 A beautiful interpretation of a classic song. As someone born in the sixties, I sorely miss that many of todays artist don't recognize the value of embracing the past to cast the future.

I was eight years old when this version of the song came out, and it's still my favorite of all the versions that have been made. An absolutely timeless piece of music. Naked Eyes did it justice.
"IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII was borrrrrrrrrrrn to love herrrrrrrrr!" I've had that lyric in my head about my first love for 24 years. She passed away in 2009, but she's always gonna the one for me, no matter who I meet.
I bet she was just as lucky to have you as you were to have her, hope that some day I can find someone who will share a relationship with as much love as the one you had.
No question - the Brits were (are) unbelievable! it wouldn't be nearly the same without them. BUT this song was written by an American. You might have heard of him - Burt Bacharach! Maybe the Brits and us are better together?
This song will definitely live on for generations to come. Godspeed 🙏 Mr. Burt Bacharach thank you for your wonderful music and touched our lives with incredible lyrics and melodies.
Another British music wave in the Eighties. Naked Eyes made certain there was always something to remind the music world of them when they released this hit!
I was born in 1981. Loved this song. My mom always played these on the radio. Remember when the, "WOW! That's Music" CD commercials would come on? This was always the first song! Clean, beautiful music! 80's. I wish I had those CDs now. 💗💗💗💗💗💗💗
10 years old when this came out. I think ive enjoyed it everytime I've heard it since. Totally gives me the 80s nostalgia feel you get only if you were there to experience it. Miss those days.

They are precious memories aren't they !! I was working at American Eagle while in college back in '88, this song played every night at closing time in the mall, WOW, the memory is actually taking my breath away !! I walk along the city streets you used to walk along with me And every step I take reminds me of just how we used to be Well, how can I forget you, girl? When there is always something there to remind me Always something there to remind me As shadows fall, I pass a small cafe where we would dance at night And I can't help recalling how it felt to kiss and hold you tight Well, how can I forget you, girl? When there is always something there to remind me Always something there to remind me I was born to love her, and I will never be free You'll always be a part of me Oh whoa ooh whoa ooh whoa oh If you should find you miss the sweet and tender love we used to share Just go back to the places where we used to go and I'll be there Well, how can I forget you, girl? When there is always something there to remind me Always something there to remind me I was born to love her, and I will never be free You'll always be a part of me 'Cause there is always something there to remind me Always something there to remind me
One of my all-time favourites! I am 64 years old (but still feel as I did when this 'modern' version came out in 1983) and can still remember hearing it on the radio in the late 1960's. Fell in love with this song all over again when the fantastic group "Naked Eyes" covered it--bravo to them for the excellent video they produced as it perfectly captures the meaning/lyrics/soul of this yet-another masterpiece created by Burt Bacharach--God Bless him and may his soul rest in peace 😇.
This song, original version, just popped into my head as I climbed the stairs heading to bed. Could have been years since I tho't of it. How I feel about a woman now, after trying so many times to forget about her. Harsh words mean goodbye to me, but not her. After she says 'ok, then leave, I have many other men better than you begging for my attention', I know she is right, so I block her on chat, but after a day or 2 she finds a way to contact me, usually via a friend,, and asks 'are you happy now'? NO! I can never be free, she will always be a part of me? Part of my insecurity is she is a super star, 4M fans on IG, so beautiful, so young, so far out of my league, but somehow she truly loves me!? Trying not to over react anymore, and just quit doubting...
I haven't stopped listening to it since I purchased the album on cassette 2 days after it's US release in 1982. I still have that same cassette tape in my possession 42 yrs later!
This is another one of those that I remember fondly; though I was very young when this came out I remember it well. It was a favorite! I do miss the 80s.
Oh man, this really brings back the memories, I remember going to the mall and buying my first Walkman style FM radio, this is the first song that played. I was so in heaven😌 March 16, 1983. Like it was yesterday 😊❗️ I miss the 80s
Until now,I had no idea who was responsible for this catchy, moving masterpiece, always gets my pulse racing. One of those great songs that just grabs you heart and soul.
The arrangement of this song from Naked Eyes is far more superior than the original ever was. This is one of the very few songs that actually had the remake outshining the original. Spectacular.
The church bells in this song have haunted me for twenty six years. I remember taping this on my old boost phone just to loop beginning. Adore this song. ❤
I was a senior in college when this song hit the charts... Reminds me so much of my (relatively!) carefree college days. Did not realize this was a Bacharach/David song. RIP Burt!
One of the most iconic songs of the 80s to me, everytime I hear it it brings me back to this apartment I use to live in with my mom and sister and how I would gather up as many quarters as I can so I could go to Aladdin's Castle spend my day playing video games and listing to awesome tunes, including this one.
the intro is spectacular!!! followed by that synth reverberating. That song transport me to my last days of school (1983). I was happy and I hadn't knew it..
Another classic 60s song. Dionne recorded it first. Works on every level. Great intro and it was a time period of musical exploration, fusing bits of different genres.
Holy shit someone who quoted Mark. One of my favorites and I KNOW I will pass his beautiful work down to my kids and so forth. A angelic voice with sounds that just makes you think about your life and the world. Talk Talk has always been under rated and besides their biggest hits, I think they don't have any bad songs. A little something for each. Also, INXS is also under rated but again each song is TIMELESS. They're my favorite band and you should listen to some of their work. Start with the infamous "Need You Tonight" from "Kick" and then proceeded to finish the rest of the songs on it which is one of their best albums sold lol.
I remember listening to that song on radio on the school bus when I was a preteen. I did not know what this song was called and I did not know who played it either but now I've finally revealed the name of the song and the band and all thanks to Tiktok. It's probably one of the most underrated 1980s song ever heard of and it's probably one of the rarest songs of all time as well. I always love the 1980s music. It never gets old and it will always be a timeless classic. Along with the 1990s and 2000s, 1980s is one of my favourite decades for music. Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪 By the way I love the beginning of the song and it sounds kinda very Christmassy to me.
Thank you so much for this beautiful message. Those words were so much powerful more especially when you loose your soul mate ,wife for thirty years and you hear this song, you are going to cry almost every day.Again thanks again and again

It was a pretty great place after so much turmoil in the 70’s, but some great music in that decade began the journey into greater melody & richer sound…until grunge stomped on it!
Only if I had the power to freeze time, the 80's would last a thousand years.

Keep rocking all and this song plated in my head most day and si I'm sitting in my car listening and reading about all you 80s crazies ..
👼And there's always something there to remember me, all thanks to God and Jesus love's.💘
If time travel becomes real before I die, I'm going back to the 80's to live out the remainder of my days.
I'm with you too
100% with you on that one!!!!!
Eighties freedom..
Me too. I’m only in junior high so I never got to experience the 80’s but I’m obsessed with it so hell yeah im down.
Naked Eyes was a good early 80`s group with several hits. This was my fav🥰
I never knew this was a cover until I watched Last Night In Soho. Crazy.
I believe it was first recorded by Lou Johnson. I may be splitting hairs. Great cover nonetheless.
@@AGR298 me too, this was one of my favorite songs, i like the version from last night in soho better though. More haunting, like a ghost
@@samsteel2643 A beautiful interpretation of a classic song. As someone born in the sixties, I sorely miss that many of todays artist don't recognize the value of embracing the past to cast the future.

You are inspiring, I am sorry for your loss.
I bet she was just as lucky to have you as you were to have her, hope that some day I can find someone who will share a relationship with as much love as the one you had.

Such a good songggg, the UK definitely produced some of the greatest artists!
The Brits were the force behind 80s music I’d say
That’s the biggest understatement ever 😂👌
No question - the Brits were (are) unbelievable! it wouldn't be nearly the same without them. BUT this song was written by an American. You might have heard of him - Burt Bacharach! Maybe the Brits and us are better together?
This song will definitely live on for generations to come. Godspeed 🙏 Mr. Burt Bacharach thank you for your wonderful music and touched our lives with incredible lyrics and melodies.

I walk along the city streets you used to walk along with me
And every step I take reminds me of just how we used to be
Well, how can I forget you, girl?
When there is always something there to remind me
Always something there to remind me
As shadows fall, I pass a small cafe where we would dance at night
And I can't help recalling how it felt to kiss and hold you tight
Well, how can I forget you, girl?
When there is always something there to remind me
Always something there to remind me
I was born to love her, and I will never be free
You'll always be a part of me
Oh whoa ooh whoa ooh whoa oh
If you should find you miss the sweet and tender love we used to share
Just go back to the places where we used to go and I'll be there
Well, how can I forget you, girl?
When there is always something there to remind me
Always something there to remind me
I was born to love her, and I will never be free
You'll always be a part of me
'Cause there is always something there to remind me

One of my all-time favourites! I am 64 years old (but still feel as I did when this 'modern' version came out in 1983) and can still remember hearing it on the radio in the late 1960's. Fell in love with this song all over again when the fantastic group "Naked Eyes" covered it--bravo to them for the excellent video they produced as it perfectly captures the meaning/lyrics/soul of this yet-another masterpiece created by Burt Bacharach--God Bless him and may his soul rest in peace 😇.

Who Else is Listening to this Classic in 2024?

And he achieved it
Holy shit someone who quoted Mark.
