Why are people trying to compare the 2? This looks like a video of a few mates trying to 4x4 together and have fun not try and compensate for anything.. Good video, stupid comments. :)

Air down next time and the Toyota should be able to make it as well. In addition, you will not have to race your engine to attack the hillside. Good Times!

Look at how little wheel articulation that Toyota has at 3:12 when its front tire is up in the air. What is that like 6 inches of articulation...maybe? Then again at 5:40 or so when that front tire is again in the air...This is where a Jeep will always win. Especially when you have a push button disconnect for your front sway bar like the Rubicon has.

Well I must say, bloody good job fellas!!! Looks like good fun, out with a couple of mates, you cant beat it. Of course lockers would get the ol surf going a bit further, but he doesn't have them as yet, but just out with the mates havin a go. Top Vid, top editing, and looks like a great day had by all… Keep up the good work… From a fellow get out and have a go with the limited mods bloke, 4x4 driver. (BJ40 Cruiser, resprung springs to standard hight, 16" splittys, with Dunlop supergripers.

Looks like a great area to explore indeed. Ignore the idiots that say one vehicle is better than the other, the object of it all is to get out there and enjoy places the average person does not get to see, everyone has their own preferences and budgets.
I was interested in the footage, it seems the Sony cam used does a similar fisheye effect to my GoPro at times. After seeing the huge variety of places you can explore in Aussie, I hope you have many more great trips exploring. Well Done, thank you.

Lets face it the Hilux is a legendary offroader used all over the world and it doesn't even compare to the Jeep. Neither had lockers and its clear to see who won. I feel as if the jeep guy was babysitting the Toyota throughout the whole video. JEEP > toyota any time any day.

    • @jdmrider
      @jdmrider 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

"legendary, used all over the world" tell me again how the jeep wins over toyota. you said it yourself "used all over the world" toyota is even used for arctic exploration. theres a reason they use toyota and not jeep. jeeps are very off road capable, just not as reliable as a toyota.

    • @texasbradley
      @texasbradley 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Agreed however with the latest jeeps that gap is closing. I have a 12 Rubicon it is unstoppable off-road and has been reliable, minus when the idiots loosely screwed in the oil drain plug causing half my oil to run out. Drove it for 3 months only to find out the matineance light came on. Oil back in engine didn't miss a beat. It's going on 80k miles and still had original breaks. I take I'll take a more capable off jeep over any Toyota's makes any day.

nguont yeah that what i figured too. The body style identical to the 4Runner pretty much. I'm kinda jelous of Aussies, the've got like the best off-road stuff. And most of it is not available out here unless you're will to spend some very decent doe, and/or trying to compete in a championship.. a lot of vid i've been watching recently,, it looks like every other vehicle is just killing it.

***** Oh, wait. I see. Your initial reply of, "No jeep will break" should have read, "No! Jeep will break". Now, even though I find that comical (because I'm hearing it in a thick Russian accent in my head), I have to disagree with you. A Wrangler will out-4x4 your Toy any day of the week. Spout all the "bitch"es you like and be as vulgar as you like, it still doesn't make you correct. :) But that's okay. Have fun.

***** Jeeps are actually used quite often as well. As for 90% of toyotas from the year 2000 still being on the road? I don't know where they got that statistic from but it sure as hell wasn't anywhere where rust is a issue. Actually just last weekend i helped a coworker strip the few good parts left on his 2001 Toyota Tacoma then throw the rest in the scrap bin, because the frame rotted and broke in 6 places, the only part still salvageable was the bed, and it wasn't original to the truck. Barely see any pre 2000 Toyotas. But Jeeps, there's cjs, yjs, tjs, cherokees, grand cherokees, etc. EVERYWHERE. I see them everyday, i rarely see a pre 2000 Toyota, besides one a coworker has but it's been fully rebuilt. Toyota has some good engines but their bodies are garbage, newer jeep engines are garbage, but as far as tough goes i don't believe you can beat an AMC 4.0L, i've owned a few, abused the hell out of all of them, stuck in bogs bouncing off the rev limiter every weekend for years.

Less vehicles, more of the hotties at the 5:50 mark! Damn, those are some hot ladies.
As far as this jeep vs this Toyota: one is running chunky, 35" mud terrains and the other 32" at's. Switch those around and I would bet on the 35" bfg's. That made the biggest difference here, not the badge on the steering wheel.

1997 Toyota Landcruiser. Throw some 35's on there, lock, go and be done with it. Hilux...pfft. The Jeep is great however I am not a fan of their V6 engines. The 4.0 has spoiled me..in mud, water, dirt and rock with my TJ. Sold my Toyota 80 series..probably the best 4x4 I have ever owned. I was contemplating buying another 80 series however parts are really hard to come by..even in Texas!

Rage all you want, jeep Nazi's. I'll give it every day to the car that can drive you home, and that's NOT a jeep.

Yeah, Toyotas are great, I know first hand, there don't break easily, but when they do, there's no point in fixing them. I had a 93 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo I6 4x4 stock, I wheeled her to the point other 4x4s break, crashed through mud holes like a boss, jumped her till the suspense and frame where suppose to break, but didn't. Yeah, a 22 year old Jeep that rarely moved because the previous owner was a pilot did all that. Difference between a Toyota and a true Jeep, let'em sit for over 5 years and rarely move them and see what happens. Happy 4 wheeling :)

i believe that this is not a test for compare...what to compare? 35" vs 32" ? a LWB car vs a SWB car? a jeep with a front axle vs a toyota IFS ? the horse power? a totally new car with an old car ? or the reliability? The Jeep thing must find a 30 years old toyota with the same horsepower and the same tyres ,similar length, and front axle without IFS ..but the jeep must wait to have the same age ..(30 years old) ..but probably will not exist ..it will be a scrap.. Jeeps not have duration..its only a status car and not a real offroad animal..if you take a normal jeep you must pay a lot of money to succeed to build the reliability that have a normal toyota car..and of course always with less space .its only for 2 persons..keep on

Why would they need lockers badly? Sure they would make life easier in some situations but IMO the challenge of picking a line that works for the equipment one has, even if it takes many tries, is half of the fun for the casual off-roader. I don't need an off-road vehicle and can stay on the paved roads if I want it easy ;)

Truss the front axle of a JK because it will bend even with mild wheeling. That said, the JK is a very good wheeler. My 1996 Tacoma (not in the rust belt) is still kicking butt after 18 years of wheeling and 500,000 miles. The reason the frames on the Tacoma are prone to rusting is because Dana (The manufacturer) failed to treat the frames properly to prevent rust. There was a massive recall on the frames of early Tacomas. With minor modifications you can't beat a Tacoma (IFS and all) off-road. Check my vids for proof.

This is a very unfair comparison! Come on! A newer model short wheel base Jeep vs. an older model long wheel base Hilux. On an extreme off-road course. Really? Of course the Jeep will beat the the Hilux. Don't compare apples to oranges. In my humble opinion, and for a more realistic test, pitch the Wrangler against a 30 Land Rover Discovery and the Hilux against a Nissan Pathfinder. Now these are matching duels I will pay to watch. Also throw in a Subaru in the mix for fun and I will be hooked.

What I want to know is, why everytime a good off road video such as this, features a Jeep and a Toyota, then people in the comment section turn it into a Jeep VS. Toyota; lame, cry baby, my truck is better than yours, game of bullcrap? What ever happened to just posting the video up because the people featured in the video, had fun? I've wheeled with Jeepers and Yotas alike & both are double edged swords. They all have their strong spots and weak spots, this includes the driver. You people in the comment section whining about "my Toyota is better" or "Jeep is stronger, faster..." get a life! Wheeling is about having fun, no matter what rig you drive. If I saw a Prius off road, I'd laugh, but give the person graditude for taking it off road.

This is a surf with IRS. Get a lux with live axle and it will have more of a chance. To be fair though, this is not an even comparison. A modern vehicle v a 15-20 year old surf. Perhaps this should be Cherokee v Surf and see how the comparison goes. Just saying...

Some off roaders prefer stock, no modifications. Fine. But then their is a price to pay. Acellerated wearing of almost every part. The cost is a lot higher than the modification. Some enjoy the crawl, you prefer being aggressive. Enjoyed watching all your videos. Thank you.

Just goes to show you how Jeeps are far more superior than Toyota's (on the Trail). The only Yoda's that belong on the trail are the Land Cruiser and the FJ. Air down next time ffs and disconect your sway bars you look like rookies (who make good videos). I'm just bust'in balls, nice job

The 4x4 is just a tool. Any skilled driver can make anything climb. But if you just gun it and hope for the best, rip your tires up and shout "I did it!" . Your a novice with an automatic jeep and should probably save up money. Cause it's gunna break. Veteran drivers do that shit in stock jeeps in Moab.

Hard comparison here... the Jeep is obviously newer, and even though neither have lockers, the Jeep clearly has traction control, and the Yota doesn't.... makes a big difference

Tire pressure was to high.. drop those tires to 10-12 psi, and use a little less skinny peddle and those fire roads would be a joke for both of those rigs. Still nice bit of wheeling there. Looks like fun though, I wish I could go back to Australia. Awesome people there.

What kind of silly comparison between the two vehicles
    Toyota Hilux vs. jeep Wrangler
1 = Toyota Hilux is longer and heaviness
2 = has another tread pattern than the jeep
The jeep Wrangler can clearly more than the Toyota.
Wheelbase as said short other tread pattern
    and modern technology

The electronic rock track that the jeep has standard will get you through most stuff but forget about it in mud or loose sand it just robs power, thats where lockers are needed.

Here's a couple of tips... Deflate yours tires to 9 or 10lbs, also find someone who knows, a) how to be a spotter, b) knows how to drive offroad, c) both is preferred...
