The dough is called Patongo (pa-tong-go). It's everywhere in Thailand but Thais normally dip this in the sweetened condensed milk. The green dipping sauce is a pandan coconut custard aka Song-kha-ya. Check out a place called "Mont Nom Sod" in the old town area, it's probably most popular among the Thai for songkhaya.

Good to know, thank you. We're staying in a spot that would mean backtracking to Asok in order to get to an MRT station. It would cost us more than Grab 😅
That picture at the patongo (or pantongko) stand you take is actually the picture of Thai princess making and selling that patongo dough. Her Royal Highness Princess Sirindhorn is known to be a very outgoing and down to earth. She attends and sponsors many festivals. I think that picture is when she presided over the open ceremony for the Chinese New Year festival at Chinatown and then helping out each of her favourite stalls/stands. FYI. The word "pantongo" (ปาท่องโก๋) is from the Chinese word 白糖糕 (báitánggāo) or 白糖粿 (báitángguǒ), which actually refers to other kind of snack/cake made from steamed rice dough (not the one you ate). But in Thailand, it was almost always sold together with deep fried dough (the one that you ate), which in Chinese is called 油條 (yóutiáo). Thai people just conflate the two and called them by the same name. But as the fried dough is more popular, Thai people nowadays when they say "pantongo" (ปาท่องโก๋ ; báitánggāo/báitángguǒ) they refer to youtiao (fried dough).
Thank you very much for the insight! The Thai princess sound like a very down to earth, kind person! It's interesting how the name changed over time in Thailand. A few other commenters mentioned that, and it's funny how that happens everywhere with food.

yes, in the past when these snacks were introduced they sold two different kinds together Pa-tong-ko (white steamed dough) and Uew-ja-kuay (deep fried dough). the peddler would shout "Patongko Uewjakuay" loudly to call customers. Among the two Uewjakuay was more favourite, and spread out all over the country. since it is the strange chinese name, the thais didnt really know the food just remember the shout "Patongko Uewjakuay" and shorten it as Patongko to call the deep fried dough. It probably doesn't seem like it, but we both love busy places like that 😅 Was very nice to experience it, especially during this time.
It's nice to be able to go home and have peace and quiet though 😊
Those kids go around in china town doing their dragon dance for chinese shop owners. Supposed to bring good fortune. The shop owners then pay them. A means for the kids to earn some extra money
Ha, that's pretty neat! Hopefully they made some nice tips
I love your blouse so pretty. Wow it is amazing so busy. Enjoy You two. Stay safe 🙏💕🍺
Thank you very much 😊
another thing i have to try / taste when im there , allready was planning on visiting chinatown but wasnt sure about the food , those bread things with the dip seem to be verry good
chineese newyear this year is on theusday the first of februari
th-cam.com/video/vi95ZTEHoL8/w-d-xo.html
the dragons and drums are basicly a small taste of wat you could see in chinatown if they celebrate it there the same way they do in china
how i understood it is : they use the dragons / lions and fireworks to drive the bad spirits out and the good spirits intoo the shops and homes and have good luck in the new year
they might go a bit over the top this year to prevent another lockdown
Thanks for the insight. Would be really cool to see it during the Chinese New Year. And hopefully they have success, preventing another lockdown 😬
If you go by MRT you will see a beautiful station.
Next time we go, we'll definitely take MRT 🙂
I don't believe you both didn't like the sugarcane juice, it's the best for the tropical weather.
We don’t have a taste for the really sweet stuff 😅
6:22 BLOOD. Jelly blood.
Wow 😬 It tasted kind of like jello 😂
Thank you very much for the tip!
6:20 jelly blood haha
It does have an interesting taste 😂
Actually Street food in Chinatown Start in the evening like 6 PM , I am afraid that you have to come back again for dinner , The whole street it’s full of food line.
We definitely must go back again 🙂
Actually, you can get to Chinatown by subway (MRT).
I think we misspoke. What we meant is that BTS doesn't have a direct line to Chinatown. Where we're staying, we would have to take BTS east to Asok and then MRT back west towards Chinatown. It would've cost us more than just using Grab 😅
@@OnePackWanderers That's really smart! Pay less, more convenient.
Now a day it rarely to find peoples speak Chinese in Thailand even though in old age except their parents (over 80-90 years old) young age became Thai already .This is different from many Countries … Chinese always Chinese not changing too much like Thailand.
Interesting! I wonder why Chinese immigrants integrate better more in Thailand than other countries 🤔
@@OnePackWanderers Not only Chinese if you go to little India that place called Pahurat not far from Chinatown this is Indian community there a lot of shops selling cloths and many interesting thing Indian foods..Indian dresses…at young age they can’t speak Indian too they became Thai already.I don’t know why may be the way of Thai life style you can feel free in this land (Thai mean Free or Freedom)all immigrants then turn to be Thai automatically and they also proud to be Thai too.If you told them that they are not Thai most of them will not satisfied.Try Pahurat you guys will love it.
😊😊😊
Chinese New Year dragon dance?
That's what it was 🙂
the brown food is pig blood or duck blood...
Yep, we learned it was duck blood! First time having it 😅
You missed the "Thieves Market" Where stolen goods where sold in the past. However they have now changed
the name of the market. But the goods are still the same!
Ha! A market of stolen good, wow 😂
oohhh 180 baht for a piece of cake :S thats like western prices if not more
Yea it was definitely very expensive, but the atmosphere was really nice. I think it's the type of place only for special occasions.
ปาท่องโก๋ Patongo
It's not so bad now, but does it get a lot hotter in the summer?
It's not the liver, it's the blood.
When you need to know the price for this, you can say in Thai 'Tao rai ka/krub' ..... P.S. ka for female and krub for male.
This is REALLY useful, thank you so much!
Blood jelly, u r vampire 😚
No vampires here 😅
Moon cake
15 min walk further during daytime to the place called The Old Siam, at the main hall there you'll get to enjoy all freshly made Thai food, snacks, and deserts. Recommend revisit Chinatown from 7pm and that canal (Klong Ong Ang) in your video. It's totally different from what you had seen, like two sides of the same coin. 😊
Thank you for the information! We will definitely revisit Chinatown at night next time 🙂
Hi how r u ?🙏 i can't sleep hehehe 😁
Hello! 😊 Hopefully you go some sleep!
Human blood?
Hopefully not!
If you want to eat a famous food in there, You should to go there at evening after 7 p.m.
We definitely will go at night next time 😄
BTS doesn't go to Chinatown but MRT does
You're right! We should have explained it better. We didn't take BTS to MRT because where we were staying, we'd have to backtrack with BTS in order to get to Asok and connect to MRT. It was faster & cheaper to take a taxi, which is rare!
