The American horror movie 'US' tells the story of a family on vacation in a small seaside town. They discover that a race of dopplegangers (shapeshifters) live in tunnels beneath the town and are slowly replacing the humans with themselves. That's where a lot the imagery comes from and it's combined with the theme of obsessive love, where the loved one is turned into a perfect doll to complete the obsessed one's fantasy so they won't be sad and alone. Obsessive love is a recurring theme in Dreamcatcher songs, Poison Love being the most obvious.
The reason BE is capitalised is because it is analysed separately... as 비 ("bi") + cause. 비 is intended to represent the sound of the hanja (Chinese character) 悲, and means "sadness". The song describes an obsessive, toxic love: "BEcause I love you" = "sad, 'cause I love you". The character 悲 is composed out of 非 on top and 心 at the bottom.
When Dreamcatcher sings "BE... cause I love you", the choreography paints the 悲 character: on "BE", the hands are above their head like the two vertical lines, and the fingers go to the side, representing the six horisontal lines; on "cause", the two hands go to their armpits, showing the two side dots on 心; and the crossed arms on "love" paint the last two inner strokes of 心.
It's such a beautiful song, and it is so, so disturbing. I love it so much... Especially the ending of the MV, as Gahyeon gets converted and ends up saying "BEcause I love you" by herself... and then that giggle...
BTW, regarding "using me to get to you"... Siyeon has called the viewers her "wifeys" multiple times, soooo.... :)
Dreamcatcher's "BEcause" is about a powerful love which turns into an obsession. The lyrics of the song indicate the singer's obsessive affection towards their target of obsession.

Yep. Obsession. Obsession to the point where "You will never leave me, even if it means I have to strangle you and prop your corpse up in the corner" becomes a real option.
🍿✂️ The video for "BEcause" is largely inspired by the 2019 horror film "Us" directed by Jordan Peele, which involves a mirror-world filled with doppelgangers.
🪞🍎 Although "BEcause" is a stand-alone song/MV, I personally feel it clearly belongs in the Nightmare Series and directly ties into their debut "Chase Me": involves themes of being taken-over &/or losing one's self; takes place in a hotel; uses creepy music box sound at the end; JiU wears similar (identical?) outfits in the Chase Me hallway and BEcause lobby; and in Chase Me, SuA sings about biting the apple, and then does it in BEcause!
🗝️ Missed opportunity -- In the lobby scene at the end, JiU should've dangled a room key with an 808 tag, fitting the theme of mirrors & duality, and directly calling back the Chase Me.

Well, well, well. Hi there! Dreamcatcher are outdoing themselves here once again. Musically, the song is a fantastic journey. There actually are "cute" parts, but there also are parts where the guitars go full metal. The variations in BEcause remind me of their previous masterpiece, Deja Vu. The bridge with SuA's slow rap and Yoohyeon's backing vocals is possibly the most beautiful one they have ever done.
About the meaning: According to Dami, BEcause is about love becoming obsession. And also, this is a stand-alone story. They go back to their horror roots, which I really enjoy. They noted that if you look at "BE" as a written Chinese character "悲“, that would mean "sadness". So the song title would mean "The Cause of Sadness". And that would make the lyric "because I like you" to maybe mean "the cause of sadness is I like you".
The video picks up on that. JiU seems to be the puppet master here (or her doppelganger!). She is the one trapping the other members and turning them into puppets, but Gahyeon tries to escape (as you can see by her throwing off the cage right in the beginning). It seems JiU catches her again though, "because she likes her". And I didn't even touch on the references to the movie "Us" yet, there is so much going on. The lyrics are even creepier. SuA sings: "Your face turns blue, blue. Your expression is like ocean view.", hinting at strangulation due to the one being obsessed taking things way, way too far. Dreamcatcher are clearly not afraid to tackle the difficult subjects, and they do it masterfully here - again. For me, this is more than just pop, it is art.
I legit can't wait for you guys to get into their b-sides. They are SO diverse, and they have like every genre under the sun! And if you like rock/metal you'll really like Demian and Rising especially (as well as Endless Night and the Japanese releases).

BEcause is a completely independent MV from the rest, it has no link to any of the other MVs. it’s a story about a love that become obsessive, if BE in BEcause is written in all caps it’s because it’s a play on words with the chinese character that sounds like “BE” and means “sadness”, so : “because i love you i’m sad”
the music video also is very inspired by the horror movie US
Korean culture tells scary stories in summer to cool off by getting chills, so obviously Dreamcatcher's title track on the Summer Holiday album is about murdering someone so you can be with them FOREVER. The funny part is the next song on the album Airplane is a bright, upbeat pop song about following your dreams that any other kpop group would have made the center of their summer promotions.
BEcause is not an easy M/V to process... BEcause is a standalone track but it has some of the most complex visual references and paired with its really creepy lyrics it is just a real masterpiece. Just a few things to point out: In the title "BE" as written by the Chinese character "悲“, means "sadness" so "BEcause I love you" means that the source of my sadness is that I love you. It is a song about obsessive love while the visuals are heavily inspired by the movie "US" by Jordan Peele where doppelgangers living underground take over the life of their counterparts. Contrary to that in BEcause it is more like an obsessive Shadow side that craves love and a normal side (red represents the shadow side, blue represents the normal side while purple is an indication that these side live together). The hourglass starts the obsessive cycle 4:33 when the shadow side breaks 4:12 free (with a smirk) and starts corrupting the normal side 4:18 while eventually the obsessive side gets rejected and becomes the victim of itself and becomes the new normal side puppeteering the shadow side 12:41 hence the smirk and the laugh at the end of the video. And now the cycle can starts over... Some details I love are how in the lobby at the beginning the dresses of the people who will be taken over during the video are presented 4:51. Also the old electric chair used as a throne with roses is a nice one 8:28. Exactly half the scenes use wrong lighting setup enforcing the duality, just like all the mirror and upside down images. Finally plenty of images are exact recreations from the "US". Stay the way you are like a beautiful painting is straight up reference to Good night, "like my very own doll" (one of their earlier song) . The doll you can technically interpret as a corpse, especially that right after the "take away the spilled paint before it hardens " is basically blood.... Similar to how Blue Blue your face turns blue is suffocation.
BEcause is clearly connected to the Nightmare Series, it takes place in the same hotel (The Palm) and shows the girls after escaping the curse, and tormenting the guests. However this time the tables have been turned by their doppelgänger’s.
Dreamcatcher was known as a group called "MINX" and it was composed of 5 members :
Jiu, Dami, Yoohyeon, SuA and Siyeon.
The concept was bubbly (I like bubbly concept).
MINX debuted in 2014 with 'Why Did You Come To My Home?' [MV].

Well well well... BEcause is meant to be summer song which in the Kpop industry, it is meant to be fun, cheery and bubbly .... unless the group is Dreamcatcher and it is their take on a "summer" song which is based on a Korean tradition where you tell ghost stories or visit haunted places so that you can feel the "chills" to fight the summer heat.
Officially the song unravels a story of an obsession and longing for love. The capitalise BE in the title is used in context as the Hanja character 悲’ (‘BE’) as they sound alike and the word meaning sadness, and the title BEcause could be loosely translate as the cause of sadness, and paired with the line BEcause I like you or BEcause I love you, the sadness is caused by liking or loving someone. Also, the whole creepy toxic vibe is link to the choreography where there is a scene of someone choking another, and the lyrics about "forever mine, even your breath" and then "your face blue...like an ocean view" kind of reflect someone being strangled until the fact turns blue etc.
Also, the MV plot theme has another layer that officially borrowed quite a bit of plot elements from the horror movie "Us" by Jordan Peele where doppelgangers who were forced to live underground depraved of the "finer" things and are trying to are trying to take over their "privileged" above ground counterparts...won't go into much details as it would be better if you watch the movie yourself if you haven't). There are a lot of details in the MV that point to this such as the movie "Us" which has scenes depicting a hall of mirror, someone being captured and replaced, the carnival; similarly the choreography also uses the movie themes such as the doppelgangers holding hand in a chain, the slight side to side head tilts, ending pose of the center member which two hand on her face, mirrored choreography etc.. There are also a few easter eggs for the doppelgangers concept such as the MV is 3:13 minute long (coincidence? I think not) , and that the opening scene and ending scene has the members in completely different outfits (with the ending outfit more whimsical), as well as the completely drain symmetrical hourglass at the end indicating that at some point, the doppelgangers replaced their original counterpart.
More impressively, musicality, it plays into the theme of opposite doppelgangers where there is a two part chorus (whimsical and cute, and a more rock follow up) and two part bridge (soft vocals followed up by a deep spoken rap with atmospherically vocals behind) trying to show this mirror duality. Also, I love the Pyscho volin homage during the rap part of the song.

I know of ONE DC MV where the camera makes JiU's face blurry a couple of times BUT I swear that was done on purpose for effect as part of the storyline. It's one solitary scene out of 'Good Night', the Second song of the Nightmare Series (or Third song if you want to consider Fly High as actually being the first song, since that is the Prequel).
