I love the fact that I can always weasel a thought about an MV talking about depression and your own personal darkness even though this is probably about the actual movie that inspired this song, YES I'M VERY FUN AT PARTIES :)

If you want to react to a MV about depression, I'd suggest Day6 - Zombie. There's a Korean and an English version, but the English version only has a lyrics video, so would be less fun to react to. You should watch the english version in your own time though as that one hits even harder.
The reason they're emphasizing the 'be' - there's some wordplay going on! The Chinese character 悲 is pronounced 'be/bi' and means 'sadness' - meaning that their obsessive love is the cause of sadness. They're also mimicking the character in the chorus choreography when they make that shape with their hands above their head.

I always viewed BEcause as an abusers song. Like when Gahyeon said "smile for me" with a smile, then repeated it with an upset face. And Dami's raps acting as the "mad" side of the abuser (the side they show when they are angry and not trying to be sweet). Siyeon at the bridge, saying that "if you reject me it's okay, because my other side will call out to you" is like when, if you try to escape your abuser, they other side (either mad or sweet) will make you feel trapped again. The abuser wants you to stay perfect, like a beautiful painting. Going as far as to remove any "blights" of paint or sadness. Very creepy and I love it.
This is one of the few reactions I've seen for this song that actually understood the meaning of the lyrics and the MV . But I didn't expect anything less from you lol.

FYI again : They also said during their times in a variety show called Weekly Idol that this song is about a love-turns-into-obsessive and toxic(?) relationship. The word of "BE" in a form of capital words came from Hanja word that means "sadness", and so it represent with their hands gesture that symbolizing the word. And one interesting fact about this mv, it was inspired from a horror movie called Us.

Well, well, well. Hi there! Dreamcatcher are outdoing themselves here once again. Musically, the song is a fantastic journey. There actually are "cute" parts, but there also are parts where the guitars go full metal. The variations in BEcause remind me of their previous masterpiece, Deja Vu. The bridge with SuA's slow rap and Yoohyeon's adlibs is possibly the most beautiful one they have ever done.
About the meaning: According to Dami, BEcause is about love becoming obsession. And also, this is a stand-alone story. They go back to their horror roots, which I really enjoy. They noted that if you look at "BE" as a written Chinese character "悲“, that would mean "sadness". So the song title would mean "The Cause of Sadness". And that would make the lyric "because I like you" to maybe mean "the cause of sadness is I like you".
The video picks up on that. JiU seems to be the puppet master here (or her doppelganger!). She is the one trapping the other members and turning them into puppets, but Gahyeon tries to escape (as you can see by her throwing off the cage right in the beginning). It seems JiU catches her again though, "because she likes her". And I didn't even touch on the references to the movie "Us" yet, there is so much going on. The lyrics are even creepier. SuA sings: "Your face turns blue, blue. Your expression is like ocean view.", hinting at strangulation due to the one being obsessed taking things way, way too far. Dreamcatcher are clearly not afraid to tackle the difficult subjects, and they do it masterfully here - again. For me, this is more than just pop, it is art.

So, if "BE" is the Hanja character that means "sadness", and we consider "cause" as a noun, that would make the meaning of this song's title as "The Cause of Sadness". And that would make the lyric "because I like you" to loosely mean "the cause of sadness is I like you". That's very deep & profound.
“Smile when you see me, smile at me / It’s just the two of us in this dark room / If you play with me today / I’ll give you something sweeter tomorrow,” Gahyeon and Yoohyeon sing on the pre-chorus.
Btw the one who laughed at the end is Gahyeon so we see that Gahyeon is the main character.

And if you see the full performance/choreo you see Sua has the strings and controls the members (puppets/dolls)
Also the Hotel remains me of the Kdrama Hotel the Luna and the Hotel belongs to Jiu.

Gahyeon is the evil side of Jiu (doppelganger) , cuz in the beginning Jiu is like looking at the mirror and there’s Gahyeon infront of her ( her reflection ) then Gahyeon tries to choke her. And also at Sua’s part near the end when Sua gives herself an apple ( which I think is poisoned ).
they mentioned the MV was inspired by the movie (US) which has evil doppelgangers. I also see a lot of alice in wonderland references which leads me to believe the song is not about physical doppelgangers but ones of different personalities - alice undergoes somewhat of an identity crisis and there are many split personalities in the story. although most of the lyrics can be read as obsessive love, the start of the bridge which often reveals the real intent goes "It’s fine even if you refuse me, another voice of mine". in this light it could be about one's internal struggle for control, perhaps between the good side and the evil side.
one imagery to support this is sua giving herself an apple through a broken mirror. mirrors in past dc mvs show reflections but the dark side. thus this scene suggest ones dark voice is trying to tempt or poison you, depending on which metaphorical reference you want to use with the apple. there is also a short screech sound during dami's rap, taken from the movie psycho which highlights multiple personality disorder. so some of the lyrics which seem psychotic like "face turning blue, like an ocean view" might be representing one side trying to kill the other for control.

they never miss i'am into this industry since a very long long time . and even amoung the artist i love the most sometime they drop one bad or less good song. but that never happen with DREAMCATCHER i don't said that because i'am biased but because i really love all tehy're songs not only the title tracks but also they're b-side . i still can't handle how it's possible than our industry disrespect them .

Fun fact: Yongma Land in Seoul was closed in 2011 and recently you can pay a little to walk around in an abandoned amusement park. Of course Dreamcatcher paid a lot more to film the MV privately.
I think it is cool because at the beginning of the MV she flips over the hourglass and at the end the sand is running completely out meaning that you are out of time.

yep you caught the meaning of the song during the bridge when dreamcatcher often reveals the intent of the lyrics. most people just relate the pop-culture references dreamcatcher uses as visual story telling, but this is dreamcatcher. they ain't going to rehash an already told story but rather use its imagery to help convey the actual theme of the song. so it isn't about physical doppelgangers trying to take over as most casual viewers think, but rather an internal psychological good vs evil conflict everyone encounters sometime in their lives. the theme of staying true to yourself is a recurring one throughout their discography and is a reflection of their own history of once trying to fit into the stereotypical kpop mold which some of the original minx members hated. other pop-culture references include alice in wonderland reflecting a search for ones identity and the iconic movie psycho screech during dami's rap which of course is a movie about split personalities where the evil side tries to convince yourself that it committed murder for your own good, 'because' it/you like/love yourself :o

Not all reactors are interested in the stories Dreamcatcher tell, but since you are and have watched the Dystopia trilogy and BEcause, you should stop going backwards through their title tracks to avoid confusion. I humbly suggest you go to their debut song, Chase Me, and follow that 7 part story in order. Chase Me, Good Night, Fly High, You and I, What, Piri, and Breaking Out. Their next title track after Breaking Out is Deja Vu and it's a standalone story MV that can be viewed any time. You'll appreciate BEcause even more once you've watched the 7 part Nightmare story arc. It has similar themes with lots of mirrors, split images, and a consuming evil that takes good people and tempts them into darkness, essentially splitting them in half with the dark side in control.
In the chorus part there's also a little part of Beethoven's Fur Elise which he composed because he was kind if obsessed or in love with his student named Elise. I think leez and ollounder put in a little part of that in this song because it mainly talks about being madly in love or obsessed with a person.
Also the title is BEcause where the Chinese characters for "BE" means sadness and the start of the chorus "BEcause I love you" could also mean "sadness cause I love you"

Glad you got around to BEcause. It is one of my favorite Dreamcatcher songs. It was their nice summer song. Seriously! The album name is Summer Holiday. Some people were worried they were going to a very different concept when it the album title was announced.
I think you got pretty much hit it with the love obsession part, besides the one part I figured you missed and was already mentioned by others which is "BE" meaning sadness, which adds another layer to it. If you look at the lyrics for SuA's part at the end you will see it appear when she says "Be".
That amusement park has appeared in at least a few other music videos. Two I know off the top of my head are Crayon Pop's "Bar Bar Bar" and WJSN Chocome's "Super Yuppers", with the latter MV having it as a reference to the former MV. If you ever check out Super Yuppers, I can explain why.
I know there were a bunch of references to their previous MVs. Like the masks being a reference to Scream. The hotel is a reference to some MVs you haven't seen. There is more, but I have forgotten it.
I still think you should check out some of their dance videos. Their dances are amazing. Some suggestions would be the Special Version of Scream, The Zombie Version of Boca, or the Part Change version of Boca. Those 3 of those do have slight changes to the original dance, so you could also just watch one of their other more regular dance versions. Any of the BEcause versions would be up there for me.

The clothes of the "innocent" DC girls are on the luggage cart Yoohyeon is pushing at the beginning of the video. Nice little flavor there. personally, this is one of my favourite cinematographic pieces of Dreamcatcher, it's such an interesting concept along with the colours and how they played around with certain saturations and tones etc. It's amazing how they flipped an obvious movie concept and made it into their own with a highly detailed take on their camera angles and such!

Jordan Peele's movie "Us" is loosely based on the wider Doppelganger mythos. Aka the Shadows myth. It may not be that well known as a horror genre, like eg vampires, but it has it's own set of rules. One of them is that if you ever meet your Doppelganger on the street, that will be the end of you. You will be replaced by your evil copy. Doppegangers aren't a worst version of you. They're your evil copies, clones, twins, your own shadow. It won't be 'you' anymore, but 'them'. They will replace 'you' and live your life, instead of 'you'. The Shadows are also like parasites, like the wasp that drains its insect victims alive, while feeding them false info and images in their brain. That's why here they turn people to dolls. in this MV.
There are many references to the movie, like the mirror choking scene in the choreo, the 'Tethered' holding hands, Gahyeon playing loosely the role of Mother.
In BEcause, JiU is playing the role of the Shadow Queen. In the end, they both join in a cocoon and combine to become the new Shadow Queens and rule together, from the Underworld. One mind, in two bodies.
Other things to consider are these: The clothes at the lobby scene are that of the victims. The hourglass indicates another cycle of horror starting. The black figures in the black shrouds are actually the victims, the Originals who were turned into dolls. They still move around, but they're powerless to escape. They're a collection, the playthings for the Shadows.
There are many m*rder scenes in the choreo, the lyrics, the m*rder violins from 'Psycho', the curtain scene in cinematography. Always implied, represented by something not clear. But we know that one by one, the Originals are replaced. Then the figures of the Doppelgangers, dressed in red or having the intricate face decorations, take over. And keep their victims in the abandoned carnival grounds. Just like the movie, they live under the carnival, in their own Underworld. But that's were the similarities end. 'Us' has a scientific/political explanation, while BEcause is based on the occult.
BEcause is also based loosely an old horror movie called 'Dollhouse' that has a recent remake, called "House of Wax". The dolls are dead people, with their souls being trapped in doll bodies / wax bodies, for their tormentor's delight. Here they're trapped to fill the loneliness, the void, the luck of love or emotion in the Shadows. To ease their Sadness. The capital BE in BEcause represents the Chinese character 非, meaning sadness. The choreo even represents this, in the pose with the hands over the head and the fingers extended. Because of sadness. That's why the Shadows do it. So they obsess with the Originals, and 'love' them so much, they squeeze the life out of them, "to feel better".
BEcause is described by Dreamcatcher as "a short cruel Summer tale". They went to watch the movie and loved it so much, they decided to make a horror song out of it!

1. they want their loved one to stay perfect, even if that requires taking their breath away.
Or 2. they are trying to be perfect for their loved one, and giving up living in the process.

Loved your reaction (& of course the song & MV, which has been a fave since it dropped). I love how it's a "summer" song, but it's super dark. It's also kinda not really a love song, or at least not in the way most people think about love songs. I love how much more common Kpop love songs have like a deeper meaning about loving yourself (or I guess in this context, accepting your dark side but... maybe...? not letting it rule you).
Also! My fave part of this video is the beginning in the hotel lobby when each of the girls starts with a more "perfect" (or "retail friendly") facial expression but then switches to a darker / blanker / creepier expression. Gahyeon especially... haha.

Even though I watched the MV before, I am still amazed at how good the continuous shot in the reception hall is. The song is so good that it made me buy the album which is now my first Dreamcatcher album!

Dah-mi, also sounds like the GA in lady gaga again, but with a [D] that sounds almost like a [T], [mi] you pronounced correctly.

I know youre a metal head but if you want to chill and just pause for a while with the MV analysis, I would love to see a content from Dreamcatchers latest album. Its a no skip, all of it are not rock/metal, and yes it is THAT FREAKING GOOD. So I would love it if you react to it.
I see my fellow insomnia have already given you a deep dive in the story itself. That's why I would like to help you with the pronunciation of their names.
Firstly you pronounced Jiu completely right.
For Gahyeon the a should be pronounced like in the word car. So it is like Gah-yeon.
For Dami the same a should be used so it is like Da-mi.
The remainder of the names I have not heard in this video, but to make it complete I will include them below.
Yoohyeon can again be split up in 2 parts, Yooh-yeon, the oo(h) of the first part now is pronounced like the ou in you
Sua can again be split up so Su-a the u should be pronounced like the u in flute and the a like the second a from area.
Handong can again be split up, this time Han-dong.
Siyeon is split up as Si-yeon where the si is pronounced like she.

The amusement park became an aBusement park, BEcause they are abusing us with their vocals and visuals... sorry for that (not sorry). BEcause was the first song that got me into Dreamcatcher and the era where I met their personalities, it's one of the first K-pop groups I got into them firstly thanks to their personalities and then their music... I'm a metal lover and a k-pop lover so Dreamcatcher has been one of my favorite groups ever, my favorite song is Scream (that was the one who made me STAY) because every time I listen to it the chorus always gives me that adrenaline rush and I wanna jump all over the place! BEcause has a creepy vibe that I really love...

One more thing, since you mentioned the BE accentuated meaning they want to be someone: I liked your thoughts and they make sense, but there's a little detail I read of. The BE word actually is using the hanja character that means "sadness". So putting the two interpretations together, the meaning becomes: I'm doing this because I love you so much that I want to be you, but this is what is making me sad.
