The "well you know" and "yeah I know" is all it took to catch up about his wife and child's murder by Red John. That's a friend right there.

Jane jumped on him but yeah that was adorable
Pete and Sam didn't like or trust law enforcement, not even when their loved ones needed help,
But for Patrick Jane (who was wanted by the FBI at the time), they passed his letters on to Lisbon the ex-CBI small town cop.
Those are some good friends.

Wasn't it because of Bertram and Blake association? If the director of the CBI was a criminal, then there would have been problems even without Jane. Lisbon and her team were simply unlucky with their boss.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this scene and shows how fantastic the show's writers are. show seemed so real and what folks would actually say. guys reaction to jane and guarded look at lisbon, then his wife smacking jane and asking about the highway patrol? then when lisbon asked how do I look like a cop and she says if cagney and lacey had a child and called her Pepper? LOL sooooo good. then jane says to pete to take her to see the elephant. Of the many many great scenes in mentalist this was the best written and performed and my fav I play over and over again.

One of few times when he called her Teresa not Lisbon.
And he’s always pronounces it with a z instead of an s, except when he was on the plane professing his love to her.
You're reading too much into it. She was a coworker, and that's it.
I love how she says "I'd love to see the elephant" XD
that went over my head before but now I get it. huh. how he says "I haven't seen you here in a while" "well, you know" "yeah, I know". good writing.
Jane's face when his wife is mentioned, ghosts still chasing him beneath the bravado.
They should've kept the whole Pepper nickname going on the few occasions when these two showed up again. But they didn't. A little too heavy on the continuity, maybe.
She locked the car before he closed the door
