I'm LDS and 95. I really don't think when I go to the other side it will matter who The Kirtland Temple belonged to. What will matter is did I feed the hungry, etc. The burden of keeping it maintained is all that has really changed. Everyone is still welcomed there. Thank you C of C for keeping this treasure so bright. In my long years, I have seen many estranged families kiss and make up. I pray for that to happen between us.

The two churches have groups that are relatives of Joseph and Hyrum are great friends, and have very good relationships. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints wants those churches of the restoration are welcome to come and enjoy these sights because it is part of their history too. I served in the Nauvoo temple and got to know some of the wonderful people who are members of the community of Christ and had a great relationship with them. They were visitors at fireside’s and I organized a few and we became friends. We have even helped them paint fences around their properties . Very good people. carol

When I took the tour in 1998, the tour guide said something to effect of "and for you LDS visitors, here's the place where your tradition says major manifestations took place". I thought it was very respectful and was glad we could share that experience.

The sad part is that most of the community of Christ members didnt know it was going to be sold and it was a sad shock to them

Wow surprising nice interview from the Tribune. This historian is professional and honest. He did not leave out that JS III only noted half of the court results. Very factual historian.

The method of the leadership of the Community of Christ used to sell these properties was underhanded, self-serving, secretive, manipulative and at the least unethical. While they had a legal right to sell these properties, they had no moral right to sell without the consent of the membership. There would not have been 10 % of the members that would have consented to this. That is why the leadership did it in secret. They had only one motive in mind, to secure their own salaries and expense accounts. I am a former church appointee, and I have so much disgust in the secrecy that I have turned in my priesthood card, and had my name removed from membership. Our brand of latter-day saints has always criticized the LDS version for their use of secrecy, and now the leadership is using the same secrecy from their own membership. When are they going to sell Graceland University?

Fun fact: The Federal Government who has no budget and spends money like a drunken sailor owns 63% of Utah #2 and 80% of Nevada #1.
