It's great how after decades people are "discovering" Watchtower, especially Doug's freaking insane bass. Rick Colaluca did some amazing stuff with a fairly small kit. Ron was a mad scientist with his "12 point octal sq rt of my shoe size in a Carpathian quadrilateral equation" structure.
I played in a band that did many shows with Watchtower in the mid 1980s and attended a few of their rehearsals. Each time I was mesmerized by Doug's playing (as well as Rick and Billy). While watching Doug made me a way better bassist, I never even bothered trying to play this stuff (except maybe Tyrants In Distress). Anyway, you did an absolutely phenomenal job with this very difficult tune! I can't see where you missed anything. I also prefer Energetic Disassembly. It's one of my all-time favorite albums. And by the way, Watchtower can still play this stuff at the same speed and intensity, as witnessed at their last show in San Antonio, TX a couple of weeks ago. It was their first live show in 12 years. Still mesmerized. There are several videos from the show on YT. Looking forward to seeing more Watchtower from you!
I just saw that footage a few days ago! They are playing absolutely amazing and I am so happy they reunited with Jason. What a fantastic group! I'd love to see them work with Billy again some day, but Ron is of course a legend. I wish to see Doug play in person some day! So amazing that you got to be there back then to see him do his thing. Thanks so much for the kind words, it means a lot! I still think I'll do a redo soon because I think I can just nail it that tiny bit more, and I definitely want to give some other Watchtower stuff a shot in the future. Thank you for the support!
i bought tickets to Hells Heros in March in Houston! Watchtower will be there along with a Solitude Aeturnus reunion! I'd love for an Outworld reunion or Stride to show up.
