    One of the greatest episodes on the Flintstones, it's wonderful seeing kids from different countries come together for a camping jamboree

      Agreed I specifically remember watching from 1987-92. It would come on TBS (the Superstation) every week day at 4:05 and the Brady Bunch would follow at 4:35.
      What I would give to be back to that time.

      Makes more sense if it's post apocalyptic era where things that once we're are rebuilt.
      They have Italians, Mexicans Japanese congregating in one unspecified country.
      Maybe bedrock is like slab city but most of the world is in disarray.
      Stockings a ship with carrying capacity to make the Pacific and Atlantic journeys with the technology the Flintstones use?
      It would be more likely they came from ethnic enclaves
      Maybe they live in Antarctica or in a part of Russia, Greenland or Canada that had defrosted and the dinosaurs etc are mutants from irradiated wastelands.

    I remember this fondly from when I was a kid. But the funny thing is...according to actor David Niven's memoir, Cecil B. DeMille was trying to get a biopic of Boy Scout founder Sir Robert Baden-Powell off the ground, possibly with Niven himself as Baden-Powell. It never did come to pass before C.B. passed away, though. C.B.'s vision for the movie's finale was a Boy Scout Jamboree featuring scouts from all over the world. Of course, this would have been more "epic" than "cute and bouncy", but the principle's pretty much the same as what the Flintstones did here!

    No one has commented on this so far. Almost every group shows some individuality. Even within the Italian group we see a couple of redheads.
    But within the Japanese group the only striking difference is height, which can simply reflect difference in age. And were they all supposed to have shaven heads???

    • @georgebrocklehurst8653
      @georgebrocklehurst8653 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I thought the same for the Japanese group and it rubbed me the wrong way. So little individuality right down to the same gaps between their front teeth. It was a passive-aggressive form of anti-Japanese sentiment which was very common at the time (post WWII and all).

    • @passion4posh

      Jack BNimble The Mexican kids looked pretty similar too. And why did the sign say "Mexican" instead of "Mexico"? A lot of stereotypes against the Japanese and Asians in general were still prevalent in the 1960's.

    Okay, wait... so some are under the banner of the town of Bedrock, others are under countries like England and France, others are under languages like German and Dutch...
    ...and then there's "Mexican"...

    • @Etobeeshawn
      @Etobeeshawn 10 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I think the reference is for nationality, not languages. People from Germany are called Germans, people from Netherlands are called Dutch, and people from Mexico are called Mexicans. It just so happens that German and Dutch are also languages, but there's no Mexican language as they speak Spanish

    • @TailsTube
      @TailsTube 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      LakeshoreLEAFSFan If that were the case, wouldn't "England" and "France" be "English" and "French?"

    • @Etobeeshawn
      @Etobeeshawn 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mezase Master That is strange I'll admit. I can only guess the reason why but maybe it's because England and France were Cold War allies in the '60s. And since Americans already speak English, and French was at one time the second most popular language in the world, it could be an acknowledgment to the countries themselves. And Mexico gets acknowledged, because it's there. It does shares a border with the US. OR. Being the '60s, the cartoon artists could have been just too high to notice their mistake
