My goodness, that exact thing happened to me two months ago. I had a U lock on it and everything and they just picked right through my kryptonite lock and left it behind locked. Unfortunately, I lost the paper to the kryptonite lock that lets you report the lock picking in order to get a refund for their lock flaw. I literally sat down on the ground for 20 minutes and sobbed. This bike was super important to me because I used it daily and it was a gift from my sculpture professor after my first bike got stolen on my freshman year of college. I even locked it on the bike rack right in front of my entrance to my former apartment. That place is within a part of campus that is well watched and lit and it still got stolen over night. My college campus needs to do better about the common and almost annual bike theft. This is literally my second bike that got stolen. As of now, my bike has yet to be found (I already reported it to campus police and they are supposed to be working with the local authorities to find the suspect and possibly the bikes that were stolen that night) and I'm stuck using a kids bike that was given to me by a roommate's mom. My current bike is too small for my legs even having raised the seat as much as possible, so it hurts my knees. I can't afford a new bike either, which sucks.
No matter what TikTok trend will be created next, I will always remember the devious lick trend. I remember at that time, an unknown person at our high school damaged the whole bathroom by writing inappropriate messages on the walls, removing toilets from the stalls, and taking all the paper towels. Never understood why people in my high school would consider that to be “fun”. It's such an unmannered thing to do!

@@ThePcHeadedGuy Yeah, it’s a weird thing… The prosecution of a shooter (Kyle Rittenhouse) tried to use the fact that he played video games (FPS) to support their case… and even though I don’t like to use such a controversial case as an example, that is grossly irrelevant. Obviously murder is much different, but I am stunned at how many bystanders there seem to be, where they all just pull out their phones… I don’t think the world is as far gone as people on the internet try to make it look at times, but it is a bit shocking. I guess I am just … not the same? What even is the purpose of sitting around and watching somebody fight, or some dumb crap as if to encourage it - and encourage it they (teens) do. I know I went off the hook a bit but it does relate to the original thing. Normal people can play FPS games and not have any conventionally wrong intents (ya’know, like the desire to kill irl), but I think it’s obvious that somebody predisposed to murder may experience that activity in a……. profoundly different way, just as if they went hunting for deer? I might be wrong just because I’m not in the brain of a murderer, but those just seem like obvious consequences.
PSA: To anyone WANTING to do these "challenges", as amazing Mutahar says, seek help. This is not a laughing matter and when you get a felony, good luck finding any meaningful work.
I can only think of a couple (rare) instances where this would be legal. A) if you can't get a locksmith and have to start your car without keys, B) you have an old car and are curious/lost keys/etc, C) friend/family says it's okay to try on their old car. Other than that maybe tell someone you're thinking about committing GTA irl lol
How is it Social Media's fault ? It's the dumb and pathetic tiktokkers who do this kinds of crap for views and fame. Especially on tiktok where most of the users are brainwashed 15 year olds who will do anything to get famous on their crappy garbage app.
Some 13-16 year olds in my city literally stole a car in the middle of the night and caused an accident. One of the kids died and the driver (a teenager) is being charged for murder. I'm not surprised at all that 12 year olds are trying this and that's terrifying. It can be worse than the crime itself.
If Kia and Hyundai aren't ready to take action, I think the NHTSA should be investigating and recalling this. It's a pretty damn big issue for everyone that owns those cars.
Carjacking is an issue for people with cars cause they might lose their cars and car insurance may not give the carjacked cars owner a replacement car then you have to buy another car because your car got carjacked by carjackers that steal cars for car benefit
What are u high? HOW is this safety related? It's a PR nightmare at worst. Keep your doors locked and u won't have a problem. 9/10 car that get broken into or stolen the owners left the doors unlocked or couldn't remember whether or not they locked the doors
And do what with them exactly? The manufacturer is responsible for recalls on their automobiles, an admin agency can’t really do anything about it if the maker doesn’t recall the vehicles, and I don’t think lemon law covers a usb bypass of the ignition lockout
i still kinda wanna own one of these cars so that i could hijack that usb port with a rasbi pi or arduino and set it up to work with nfc and a pin or something like that
I remember when stealing a car meant jamming a screwdriver into the ignition after breaking the steering lock. Now it's USB bypasses and RF stalking. The world we live in. The fact that being a criminal as a "trend" for internet clout even exists is annoying to see. Sad too.
Who needs to waste time with the steering lock? bust the column open or yank the lock cylinder and turn the ignition... it unlocks the wheel for you. When I got my first car ('84 Trans Am), cars were SO EASY to steal, literally the first thing I did was install a switch between my ign. switch and starter, and hide it under my ashtray.
This happened to a friend about a month ago with his Kia. Despite how easy it is to steal though, they failed anyways lol. His dash and around the steering wheel were completely trashed, and a window broke, but the car was there in the morning. Kia dealership were real dicks about it too. I'm gonna let him know about the lawsuit.
I know someone who’s personally been at the receiving end of this trend. Their family isn’t very well off and it was their only way of getting out to get groceries, get food stamps, etc. But their hyundai got broken into. After a joyride and who knows what else, the car was dumped in the woods a few miles away. The car was totaled. I’ve been having to help them for the past two months by taking them out and driving them to work. I wish more people actually thought about the consequences of their actions
Glad you're talking about this, this became a HUGE problem here in Columbus, Ohio. So much so my dumbass little brother got house arrest for riding in a stolen vehicle. Glad I don't own a Kia or Hyundai but I do feel bad for the owners. This shit needs to STOP.
I was just about to bring up our "GREAT" city of Columbus. This crap is constantly on/in the news, and people have actually been seriously injured and/or died because of these muppets.
I didn't even know about this trend until now. I'm not on TikTok so my brain is still intact. But to hear that it's really bad in Ohio is concerning. I'm glad I know about it now.
At this point, I think it's safe to say Tik-Tok represents the absolute state of dying social ethics, especially among young people that weren't taught any useful life skills by useless parents and schools.

With people being hard pressed for extra finances now, it is sad that these CHILDREN are going around and stealing cars. Like Muta said, most people cannot afford to replace the stolen cars. Here in Michigan our insurances rates are already through the roof, and a huge number of these thefts are happening in the Grand Rapids area. I can only imagine how much their insurance is running for these models, as insurance companies take in all of these factors. If I were a kia/hyundai owner and my car got stolen, I would hope that there will be some sort of class action lawsuit again these companies. Cutting corners to save themselves money on the immobilizers is just lazy and asking for trouble. By saying they are good for the 2022 models, they are still ignoring the issue. They should offer some sort of free update to the people, like most car companies are forced to do after something is consider faulty in their line of automobiles.
Where I live (city in the UK), we currently have issues with people jacking up cars and removing the catalytic converters to sell for scrap money. Some people are getting desperate.
Ngl, I never liked Grand Rapids. At least in Detroit, I park my truck in the driveway and nobody come and steals tools out the bed, visiting family for one afternoon in Grand Rapids, 2k worth of saws and carpentry tools stolen from in the damn driveway. Also, some assclown has been gooing all over Wayne County and Downriver blasting car windows out with a bb gun.
@@blackenedsprite8542 This has been happening in my city in the us also. There were almost 2,500 reported vehicles stolen. I was wondering why did my mom mention this to me. Because of this stupid and juvenile tik tok trend that's been blowing up on everybody's minds & sight.
So here's a "funny" story. Back in the early 2000s when I was a young teenager,I was watching this show on the Discovery Channel that was all about how easy it is to steal various cars. They had this guy who was like a car thief or repo man or something demonstrate how to break into and hot wire certain models of cars in under a minute. They showed what they said was the absolute easiest car to steal and wow it was the exact make, model, year, AND COLOR, as our family car. LITERALLY THAT NIGHT at around 2 am our car was stolen. It was later discovered that the "thieves" were a bunch of kids who took it on a joy ride, totaled it, and abandoned it.
This remembered me of another tiktok trend that happend some time ago, that consisted of making a "Z" tattoo in any part of your body, because "yOu ArE a GeN z". The problem is, the "Z" logo that was chosen, was the same Z that was used in the logo of the 4th division of the Waffen-SS during the WW2. The moral of the story: if you follow a trend in tiktok, you are going to commit to commit a crime of any type. (Sorry for bad english, i'm not a native english speaker.)
For a non-English speaker that's pretty good English actually. There was only like two mistakes here. You said "remembered" instead of "reminded" and the only other mistake was saying "to commit" twice in a row. Other than that, that was really good.
I'll say, not only is it bad that things like this can land you in jail, but also what if something goes wrong, let's say you're caught and the owner feeling threatened and not knowing it's a teenager/kid opens fire.
That's the problem with today's society, people don't think the long term basis of doing these kinds of acts. You think you're being funny by doing this and next you know, you either get beaten up or see a barrel right in front of you pointing at your head. Guys you need to remember that you don't understand who you're dealing with when it comes to having your life or the victim's life being put on the line.
I was going to say this as well. Frankly, going to jail is one of the better outcomes compared to the victim (rightfully) exercising their second amendment rights.
There's being naughty as a kid and there's being straight up evil. There is malicious intent and evil behind these acts. Do not underestimate a child's ability to full comprehend the outcomes of his/her actions.
The thing that baffles me is I've seen Fords, Hondas, and Toyotas from *2002* that had immobilizers in them. By 2015 you'd think they would be relatively inexpensive to implement since it isn't new technology.
Absolutely hilarious that some engineer believed it was a good idea to not only remove the transponder immobilizer but also make the ignition wires accessible via friggin USB! I'm laughing my ass off as well. Also sad that the kaspersky antivirus didn't save your family's Lexus, Muta.
Up here in the glorious land of Canada, at the age of 12 you are considered cognitively culpable for your actions, so I wholly agree that a 12 year old stealing a car should be tried as an adult.
The first time I played Xcom, I always thought is was funny that it had to disclaim that the events happening in the game were not in fact real because nobody could possibly believe otherwise. People who do stuff like this make me realize that those disclaimers are necessary.
not really. no one thinks video games are real, but this stuff can really only get popular due to social forces which a disclaimer wouldn't make a difference for. everyone knows it's illegal, and that's the point
In my country, we often joke about the fact that American companies apparently have to put disclaimers on microwaves, telling people not to dry their pets in them. Oh, and there was that time that kids started eating detergent for views online. I have absolutely no faith in kids these days, let alone American kids chasing clout online. It's all about those precious clicks.
The thing about immediately saying the kids need jail time is that is just likely to get them to reoffend. Look at recidivism rates. Putting them on that track, labelling them as criminals, does more damage than whatever pleasure you get from seeing them punished.
Fun fact: everyone who bullied/tried to fight me in school is now in prison. 6 for 6. I encountered more criminals in school as a kid than I have any other place and it isn't even close.
My friend’s mom had her Kia Optima stolen the other day because of this trend. So stupid. She was so sad because she’s only had it for a month. She had bought preowned.
When I was young, I knew a guy who used to "borrow" cars. Guy straight up told me never to get into it, people aren't happy when you "borrow" their vehicles, its dangerous above and beyond the legal aspects.
Completely agree that today you see some behavior that just a slap on the wrist can't solve. You need actual punishments to deter them, like I did dumb shit when I was younger but now ya people ambushing & jumping others for clout, stealing vehicles, literal millions of dollars in hacks. Like seriously, wth is wrong with the world.
The fact having a manual on that side of the world actually helps your car not get stolen as much because most people dont know how to drive it blows my mind
From videos I have watched online, vehicles with key fobs also became easy targets to thieves who started using signal boosters and other devices to gain access to the signal of the og key from inside peoples homes. They would grab the signal from outside and use it to start the car and just drive away like nothing. Because of this some car companies started selling small cases to jam the signal, and also began updating the programming so that the key doesn't have a signal while its away from the car.
the issue with this is it takes both cash and some brains. most theifs are knuckle draggers who unless its as easy as plugging in a usb they cant do it. just look at locks. it really doesnt need a super pick resistant core just needs to resist bolt cutters well and your good.
Hey Muda it was nice to see this video. I do private security and for the last 2 months, my guys and I have been running off "kia boys" off of private property almost daily. There have been over 300+ stolen kias and hyundais in my city in the last 4 days. Its so exhausting.

Muta, luxury vehicles are stolen at a pretty decent clip. When there's that much money in one vehicle pick up, they find a way. Depends on the year, even very recently, with a small raspberry pi and radio you could hack into many vehicles. Just need to get the code from the key itself which is also easily gotten.

Over here in Argentina there's this trend where they literally make HOMEMADE BOMBS and set them up at places, one of them being schools. A girl has already been hospitalized and is permanently deaf.
To add for this, I actually just want to say that this only works on KIAs on the US. This is because they have no engine immobilizers, which is a regulated thing which is mandatory in the EU, meaning this does not work in the EU.
Yea my 2000 Hyundais got an immobiliser and Thatcham alarm standard, always the US cars with problems, weather it be due to legislation or manufacturing.

What's most insane to me is they did it for "internet fame." Like when someone steals a car because they can't afford their own, I can atleast see where they mind is at. It's still not alright, but I can atleast follow the thought process. But when you do it for reasons like internet fame, I honestly can't follow the thought process because I'm not sure it's there

here's a fact about Toyota/Lexus's immobilizer, the push to start system was actually cracked and is easily bypassed. Keyed is still next to impossible compared to the push to start, and its the 25 year old tech from the 90s. lexus and toyota SUVs are very sought after (by professional thieves of course) theyve stolen half a dozen straight from the dealer. they even hacked into the wifi and shut off the CCTV cameras, Watchdogs style. needless to say, theyre much more secure now. locks and cams got fortified.

@@user-dz9ew8pf9m obviously, not saying it’s not a problem but high end cars usually fal victim to theft more than a family hauler will. For example the most stolen cars in past few years have been fiat, so hellcats, track hawks, srt8 vehicles. I had one back in 2010 when Mercedes owned dodge. So it’s more likely the cars being stolen via keyless entry and keyless start are gonna be worth more than say a a rav4. Cars with high performance engines like a Chevy Silverado, a hellcat, some Honda’s, certain newer fords are all cheaper high end cars that will fall victim to theft via this method. Those people who can afford these sometimes $100,000 cars can afford rentals and probably don’t haul kids around in them and if they do then they probably already own a 2nd vehicle. I don’t condone car theft. I have a car that’s older and very desirable and suspect to theft and I take measures to ensure theft would be very difficult. You cannot prevent theft, if someone wants it they will take it, regardless of what you do.
This causes so much financial damage to people too. It’s not like you get your car stolen and your insurance company just gives you a new one. You would have to probably pay for a rental and wait for your insurance company to do something. You could find yourself spending a few thousand dollars in the process even with insurance. Stupid trend.
This is weird too, cause even mechanical key ignition cars past 2008 or so have a chip in the key. Like Nissan uses an RFID chip in the key and an antenna around the ignition switch. Even if you copied the key or hotwired the ignition switch, the immobilizer won't let the engine start without the proper RFID code
Ah 💩, my husband and myself have a 2013 KIA Soul, so I guess that we need to get on the bandwagon, and get our car up to safety mode. As you said, our car IS everything to us, and we simply cannot afford to lose it to some punks that decide to do these STUPID challenges. I wholeheartedly agree that these little punks SHOULD be treated as adults, and tried as adults. They want to commit adult crimes, then they can do adult time. I don't want to flipping hear that they're only children, and their brains are still growing, because they KNOW right from wrong, and they KNOW what they're doing is wrong. I swear, SOME parents today need to get a thick branch smacked upside their heads, and be forced to take parenting classes, because they ALLOW their kids to roam with thugs, or those that are on the wrong path, and these little punks don't have any consequences for their actions. That's all I'm going to say.
Bad parenting is legit. Most now a day just hand their babies and kids a tablet or phone to watch something or play, because they don't wanna deal. So pretty much they are raised by the gadgets and not their parents. I hope your car will be safe from these dumb kids.
My coworker who drives a Hyundai got his car stolen with this exact method about two weeks ago. Luckily they were able to find it and no serious damage was done but it still sucks
As a car guy and a SomeOrdinaryGames fan I am very happy for Muda to be talking about cars. Made my day. Also for those who don't know Hyundai owns Kia and they are one in the same
There's a much easier way to steal a car. (Especially with the newer German ones) One can steal them by forwarding the radio signal of the keyfob to the car. (which is really easy) They're keyless go so once you did that you can drive right off. Yes you can actually do that (you shouldn't of course) . It should work better with modern & expensive cars. You don't have to insert an immobilizer key like in most safe cars...If the car thinks the key fob is in reach it will start. Yes Mercedes & BMW are even worse than Hyundai...
As stupid as some of these trends are, I actually welcome them. If it lands the stupid people in jail and teaches them a valuable lesson I’m all up for it.
that USB inside a steering column looks like something 4chan made to dupe idiots into breaking into cars for lulz. If that's not a 4chan op, we're living in the dumbest timeline.
There's a couple of problems with the whole "lock em up to fix it." solution proposed here. The first one is that it doesn't work. United States prisons are an awful deterrence against future crimes. Second, teens poor self-control and decision making when compared to adults. This is obviously a mitigating factor. Third, given the value of the vehicles, it would be a felony. Felonies in a lot of cases are permanent depending on the territory. A permanent record increases the chance of future crimes due to the difficulty of finding meaningful employment and educational opportunities. In addition, because felonies negatively affect housing opportunities, the chances of an ex-felon being in a positive social environment decreases dramatically. This last point is one of the strongest ways to deter future crimes; making the ex-offender not want to negatively impact their community.
I understand your worries. However, people, especially teens, must understand that their actions have consequences that can sometimes be permanent. "We did a stupid thing once" simply does not cut it if what they did ruined other's lives.
@@mabogibo525 True, but there are practical solutions that aren't prison. They would be better off being forced to pay reparations + community service and counseling. Really, everyone would.

I do this because at my college carjacking has always been a major problem. So if they can carjack my car, they would also have to deal with a boot for both the steering wheel and the tire, which obviously makes the car immobilized until they are unlocked by a key.
When I was about 16 I stole one of those steering wheel locks for the lulz when I saw the car was unlocked. They were so confident in the wheel lock they left the actual hard to pick door unlocked. Then I locked the car for them before I left with their " club".

Sorry about your non-motor scooter getting stolen.

I mean bikes can be replaced but it sucks, however cars getting stolen, that's a damn near financial death sentence.
No matter what TikTok trend will be created next, I will always remember the devious lick trend.
Obviously murder is much different, but I am stunned at how many bystanders there seem to be, where they all just pull out their phones…
I don’t think the world is as far gone as people on the internet try to make it look at times, but it is a bit shocking.

Carjacking is an issue for people with cars cause they might lose their cars and car insurance may not give the carjacked cars owner a replacement car then you have to buy another car because your car got carjacked by carjackers that steal cars for car benefit

From videos I have watched online, vehicles with key fobs also became easy targets to thieves who started using signal boosters and other devices to gain access to the signal of the og key from inside peoples homes. Because of this some car companies started selling small cases to jam the signal, and also began updating the programming so that the key doesn't have a signal while its away from the car.

This is weird too, cause even mechanical key ignition cars past 2008 or so have a chip in the key. Like Nissan uses an RFID chip in the key and an antenna around the ignition switch. Even if you copied the key or hotwired the ignition switch, the immobilizer won't let the engine start without the proper RFID code
really they didn't care at all about keyed entry and instead put all the security into keyless
Yep, this is in no way a victimless crime. If they wanna play stupid games they are gonna win stupid prizes ie jail time
Your first mistake was buying a Kia
Bad parenting is legit. Most now a day just hand their babies and kids a tablet or phone to watch something or play, because they don't wanna deal. So pretty much they are raised by the gadgets and not their parents. I hope your car will be safe from these dumb kids.
Install a battery cut off switch in the glove box. That's probably the easiest way to outsmart idiots who want to steal it.
get a quick disconnect battery terminal or install a kill switch. or better yet sell that pos before it blows up
These cars are people’s livelyhoods. Until large public transport systems are built, stealing a car like this can destroy somebody’s life.
You know what’s up when Muta starts the video off with a hearty laugh
Sadly I was a victim of this trend,my car got stolen a week and 2 days ago and now I been struggling but guess it made "Haha funny TikTok content"
man that sucks i hope u get some compensation :(
@@tamamichan1431 sadly they didn't even find the people who took the car they completely wrecked it and now it's taking weeks for any solution
That's exactly how BMWs and Mercedes are stolen around here....
Newer Chrysler, Ford, GM, Nissan, Honda and VW models will start and unlock the doors when the key fab near by. Lots of cars do this now sadly.
I guess a potential solution is to shield the key with Faraday's Cage , taking it out when needed
Does this still work with those bmws where you need to put the key into a slot then press the start button? (Example: late 2000s bmw 330i)
Idiots praise these shitty car brands.
my sister got her car stolen like this. Good thing all these news stations are telling everyone about it and even showing people how to do it.
As stupid as some of these trends are, I actually welcome them. If it lands the stupid people in jail and teaches them a valuable lesson I’m all up for it.
Infinity?
Vast majority of tiktok users are children.
Lands them in jail or dead! Depends how stupid and what it is, either way its a great thing.
@@nikikiooo i dont think children dying is so great
The best are when they're internet famous but still idiots.
How tiktok is still legal is beyond me. Teaching folks to steal a car can yeah land ya in prison for decades if not life.
Digital opium
that USB inside a steering column looks like something 4chan made to dupe idiots into breaking into cars for lulz.
@@mabogibo525 Those consequences shouldn't ruin other people's lives by making a dumb tik tok idiot a seasoned criminal who then goes on to murder or rob instead of becoming a normal adult who doesn't do that.
Some people won't be able to work if their car is stolen. Kids who steal. Their parents aren't going to stop them.
Lets be honest, most tiktok challenges can either have you end up in jail or end up dead
not really
@@osuplaeyurreallygood name at least 5

Drives a manual, like a true human driver. Respect
I have a privately owned boot for my tire and one for my steering wheel for my car. Both of which were at a price of around $40 and $35 respectively.
Then I locked the car for them before I left with their " club".
tiktokers: it can land me in prison but doesn’t mean it will

"Have you lost faith in humanity?"
Silly Muta. I never had it in the first place. ❤
Every tiktok trend involves criminal activities 💀
Bro, your last video about kids being tortured killed my faith in humanity. This just yeeted its corpse into the sun.
Kia/Hyundai theft has been a huge issue in the city of Milwaukee for the last few years. They call themselves the “Kia Boys” and they hot wire any capable model. I believe a documentary is coming out on them soon.
Much respect for driving a stick shift! - Also even push button cars can be stolen and surprisingly easy too.
For that, usually immobilizer/key fob has to be emulated
wow so hard and cool to drive a manual wow😱
@@conner768 Its uncommon in America.
@@conner768 ikr. It's real fun.
@@conner768 In north america it is abnormal to drive manual transmission cars, generally only car enthusiast or people stuck with old shit-boxes drive them, So I suppose that driving manual has gained the status of being "cool" "hip" and "novel" there.
Muta you have no idea how happy I am to see a new video from you especially after having to argue with multiple people who believed you can't be racist to white people, it was so frustrating but watching this is a decently better change.
Erm, backstory??
@@Delsin42 oh I was just playing a chat game and a group of people started going on about how it's impossible to be racist to white people, I pointed out how they're wrong and that anyone can be racist to any race then they all ganged on me calling me dumb and saying I'm not really black if I believe that and that only black people have ever faced racism..gonna drop playing that game cause the IQ on there is incredibly low apparently.

TikTok deserved to get shutdown, I made a vow (Yes I'm dead serious) to myself when it started getting popular to never download TikTok ever, I'm now 3 years in and still staying true to that vow, and you know what? I think it's one of the best moves I ever made.
I never wanted to get involved with TikTok. All I've seen of it are TH-cam ads, and I intend to keep it that way. Seeing these dangerous/illegal challenges is good incentive to stay away
