Nice video Chris, now I know why my Defender bearings never lasted that long, I always just tightened them and never checked the proper torque!

TBH Dave I don't think many do. There is a point where "feel" comes into play. As long as the bearing is initially seated then backed off and not overtightened they usually are okay. Nowadays bearings are preloaded so not much chance of over-tightening them.

I always do as my dad taught me - tighten up until the bearings just start to bind, then back off one flat. Never let me down.

Hi There, great video. I was wondering how to execute the tab over process in reality though. Seems like the hub gets in the way of performing the tab over of the lock nut. That is the one I struggle with. Thanks.

Hi, great video! I have a question.
Trying to replace wheel bearings of my 1998 defender td5.
A bit confused now. My landy had installed only one washer and one nut to secure the bearing. Instead I have one spacer between the two bearings. I bought new bearings and got a new washer with it but not a matching spacer to fit the new bearings.
What do you think I should do?

+Jan Savay-Guerraz There are selective spacers which you need to work out which one is correct to fit to the hub. The speaker is to give the correct space between the bearings when it is tightened up. Td5 Workshop manual will tell you how to do this. Not complicated but you need to measure. There is a list of spacers in the manual. Once you know what size you need you can call then google the parts number to find who supplies them unless you buy them from Land Rover. I think the Puma workshop manual has the same data in it too.
Alternatively you could go back to how the 300tdi and earlier defenders had their hubs which is without spacer. Kits are available.
