@@daveyjones18 What, you mean to make 4 perfectly sized pieces that would have gone right the way around & not left massive end gaps? lol. I think we were all thinking that but the tape measure gave me the best laugh I’ve had all week!
Gareth its said that God loves a trier, well so do we😊 For a first attempt you did well. As a retired chef I'll offer just one or two tips for the next time😊 Always have some flour handy to dust your hands when touching the pastry AND the sausage meat.If using the same sausage meat, when you open the packet, turn the S.M out.And upside down.Marks on the under side great guide to follow and cut into 6 pieces. Don't cut the pastry, just unroll.Dust both the pastry & your work top lightly with flour. Roll the sausage meat with floured hands, until it's the length of the short side of pastry. Place it on the pastry, about a quarter inch ( I'm old school😅) in from the edge.Egg wash to the main part ,then roll, using the edge until it covers the sausage, press down on the egg washed side. Then cut along the edge to separate from the rest of the pastry. Repeat until you have 6 large sausage rolls, These can be cut in half 😊 egg washed then baked to perfection 😊 Again mate a belting good video, and take it from an old professional, you did very well ❤😊 See you on the next one Cheers Allan&Family
Just poured my second glass of wine! To heck with tea! That being said I am just going to take some puff pastry out of freezer and some mild Italian sausages and make some rolls! I’m gluten and lactose free intolerant but I do enjoy watching and listening to you! I’m a 77 yr old ex pat from Lincolnshire and you make me feel so at home!🇨🇦💕
My wife makes her own sausage rolls using the exact same ingredients from Tesco except she mashes up the sausage meat and grates in some apple, the resulting sausage rolls are absolutely gorgeous😋👍
This is what you call entertainment, just get home from work I'll put TH-cam on and Gareth Ramsay is on duty . Crying with laughter it's bloody hilarious and remember God loves a trier 😂😂😂😂
My old mum used to make them with Cumberland sausage meat from the butchers and her own pastry oh how I miss them I'm a lifelong sausaholic Gaz sausage sandwich Saturday tomorrow yum😅😅
👏🏽👏🏽 So many people telling you what you could have done!! You could have gone to Gregg’s instead. But you didn’t you did it your way and there is nothing better than that. Well done I bet the girls and wife were thrilled with those because they were yours. I feel a burst of “I did it My way” 🎶
Nothing better than making your own pies, pasties and sausage rolls, so much better straight out of the oven and the lovely aroma that fills the kitchen. Biscuits/cookies are the same - makes your house smell like a good old fashioned home. Lovely to see.
Hope they use the All Butter versions as why ruin it with ultra processed toxic marg in the pastry which most brands are unfortunately. Hard to find all butter now as 'it's all about the money money money"
"So easy to make" I absolutely love this Gaz, literally pissing myself laughing, but I was laughing with you, not at you! I love watching you every day 🤩
What you should've done is made one big one length ways, slice it into quarters once its rolled and pinch the ends together to seal. Learning curve! I've made them before but added some caramalised onion (my version of flare). Theyre lush!
I make steak bakes using puff pastry cut into squares and add tinned stewed steak pop a square lid on and crimp edges with a fork score top with knife and brush with egg wash when pastry is golden their done very tasty 😀
I was shouting "stretch the meat to the end of the pastry, Gareth! 😄 But you did really well - I've been making sausage rolls for years, and they still come out a bit different every time! I liked the "open" sausage roll - could be a thing! Cheers, Gareth, I'd have eaten them!
It doesn't matter if you are only assembling, using pre-made pastry and filling. The end result is always going to be better and cheaper than buying overpriced pre-made product. Plus you can choose components and ensure that, for example, the filling isn't rubbish. It is also fun watching you do it, so yes please do more. Other suggestions to try are pizza, fruit pies, chicken and bacon pie, kedgeree, heck even try a making curry using a bottled sauce, or if you want to a small extra challenge, a pre-mix spice pack. Biscuits and cakes are also good fun - so here's to the next project!
Hi Gareth, My wife is a qualified cook and was cringing watching your attempt. She has a secret recipe that has been passed down by her family. She has updated it and does use shop bought pastry. She suggests that if you place the sausage meat longways in two rows, it is easier to fold over the pastry. You then can cut them to the desired length. She says that you did very well for a first try. She added it was better than I could have done . We both love your videos and like the way you do something different every now and again. Well done mate.
well done, nice one. I jazz mine up with a handful of bread crumbs a teaspoon of mustard, grated nutmeg, one fried onion, sage and some dark beer -you should try it next time
I'm going to give it try. I'm a bit disappointed that ready made sausage rolls all have trans fats in them so this is probably the way to go. Thanks BFG.
Gotta say , your videos are great and it's good to see a normal fella doing these reviews and these cooking efforts that most people can relate to and yeah have a laugh at but enjoy it at the same time. Keep it up mate absolutely brilliant 👍
Watching you making sausage rolls is like watching 'The Plank' I think you should've paid a wee bit more attention to the good lady as she was making hers. But all's well that ends well! Great effort Gareth 👍🤤😀
Love making my own sausage rolls, skin some linolnshire (like the sage and other herbs) with good pork sausages with ready roll puff pastry. So good hot out of the oven. Looking forward to more simple recipes for everyone.
Good for you. Nothing like some home made sausage rolls. I always use shop bought pastry, tastes fine. They looked very tasty, I have a special recipe but these days can’t be bothered I’m too old.
Boil 3 or 4 lots with half a grated onion and boil until soft, mix in tin corned beef, wrap in puff pastry and bake 180 for 30 mins. Corned beef pasty. Another project? Thank you for your videos Gareth.xx
I was laughing my head off at this Gaz, thanks for brightening up a grey Sunday morning 😂 The tape measure came out 🤣 Theeee best sausage roll I’ve ever had was from Tebay services, I had to eat it in 2 sittings it was that big and girthy 😳 We’re off up to Moffat for a couple of nights this month, it’s the wife’s big 50th. When we go we always go to the butcher there and get bits to bring home, we always get square sausage. Guess what I’ll be making with it this time ? 😁😁 If you could would you pleaaaaase give Heidi a birthday shout on the 21st, she loves you and your vids and it would make her day. Thanks Gaz, all the best and thanks for the entertainment on this video 👍🏼👍🏼🇬🇧🇬🇧
*Homemade, foot Long Sausage Rolls- Bald Foodie Guy Style 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👌😋* Gar,they’re homemade and you make them your way . The measure tape highly amused me- I thought his army days that one. My tip- use some flour when shaping sausage meat- it does stick to your hands. Just my experience from doing them, but scotch eggs- flour was the magic. It is tricky shaping the meat.i went off top of my head a few years ago- I bought Richmond sausages ,didn’t even peel skin off lol and just rolled the pastry round them- bloody great. These turned out fine- they’re homemade and you can’t beat homemade. Well done pal . Honestly!
Eh.if you ever do a pastie, use smash and make the mixture extra dry,the fat from the meat will supple it up . And cut oval shaped pastry for a Cornish pasty shape or a long square for a say,,cheese and onion slice
Try some Chilli flakes \ powder in the mix next time its lovely, if your doing requests, how about a nice Cornish pasty next, a proper sized one fit for a Tin Miner 👍
Everything in life gets easier, the more you do it. My Saturday job as a child working in the Marina café which was close to the promenade in Blackpool. Home cooking on a grand scale, I haven't forgotten the morning when the boss said, "First thing this morning we are making 1000 sausage rolls.
The look on your face when you tasted the first bite is absolutely priceless... THIS is why we love this channel so much!
Thank you so much 😁
I think he,s brilliant, so funny. he,s a better cook than me 😂
cooking instructions:
1) get a measure tape ...
well done! that's the reason, men are the best cooks! 👍
Still wasn't equal 😂
Omg…..when the builders tape measure came out😂 They looked ok in the end though👍🏼
I was just thinking 🤔 why not cut the pastry in half. And then cut the halfs in half 🤣
@@daveyjones18 What, you mean to make 4 perfectly sized pieces that would have gone right the way around & not left massive end gaps? lol. I think we were all thinking that but the tape measure gave me the best laugh I’ve had all week!

Three sausage rolls and one Toad-in- the-Hole. Great combo.
My wife makes her own sausage rolls using the exact same ingredients from Tesco except she mashes up the sausage meat and grates in some apple, the resulting sausage rolls are absolutely gorgeous😋👍
Apple , that's genius right there..magic.
The integrity is the best part of this video. He isn’t cutting the video to hide his mistakes and he’s having a go. Good onya mate much respect 👍
Cheers 😊
The satisfaction of making your own stuff is unbelievable, in fact it is infectious, you'll be starting your own cafe next lol.
I enjoyed this one believe it lol
It tastes better!😉 There's also the satisfaction of giving it to others.
The Sausage canoe looks nice 👍

Fresh out of the oven sausage rolls.
Oh yes.
Even some top chefs use ready made puff pastry, your in good company 😁
Yes, they use it on Master Chef.
Hope they use the All Butter versions as why ruin it with ultra processed toxic marg in the pastry which most brands are unfortunately. Hard to find all butter now as 'it's all about the money money money"

The Norman Wisdom of cooking he is brilliant its great to have someone doing this with no ego and he gives his best all the time.
I HAD TO RUN TO THE TOILET COULDNT STOP LAUGHING
If every frozen product was a good as puff pastry and garden peas, the world would be a better place.
Don’t forget frozen mash 😊
Brilliant Gaz!! 👏 I’m going to make these with my youngest daughter tomorrow now…. She will be well proud 😀 have a good weekend …. Smithy
Cheers Smithy 😊
You can't beat a home made sausage roll.
Home made food tastes the nicest. They looked lovely
I'm glad you read the ingredients. Who would of thought that you need Bamboo fibers in sausage meat. 🤷♂
Could the meat is panda...?
Agree strange ingredient must be for a reason I suppose
wonder if sausage meat from the butchers has it. hmm🤔
It's used as a binder.@@davidn3394
Most likely a cheap filler - meat is more expensive so it’s probably more profitable to fill it out with fibres and other fillers
Wow Gaz really impressed - you do make me laugh especially when you got the tape measure out!! Glad they tasted good😊
Glad you enjoyed it
