    Thanks for the very clear video! Since 2023, it is also possible to use contactless payments on all dutch public transport. You don't have to signup or register for this: simply place your smartphone or contactless debit/creditcard in front of the reader to check-in, and don't forget to check-out later. It works on all forms of public transport in The Netherlands, and you pay the same price as using the anonymous ov-chipcard (which you then don't need anymore), making it much easier I think!

    It's not just for Amsterdam, but for all of the Netherlands. You can use your GVB OV-chipkaart on the NS Intercity, on Rotterdam trams and metro, on Arnhem trolleybuses or whatever

      This is old video from 2012.. Was this card with GVB name used only in Amsterdam ? Amsterdam was have own cards? Amsterdam had its own cards? It seems to me that this is just a card look and it works everywhere where the system is.. Or it was when this program with cards started.. Now you can buy "normal" OV-Chip kaart without GVB name and it works in every place in The Netherlands.

      @@adriankerber2260 Cards used to be issued with some kind of appearance from the operator you bought it from in the beginning back in 2006: this video is rather old and premiered about a year after all modalities except for trains got the chipcard made obligatory (it was made obligatory for use on Nov 4, 2011 if my memory serves me right).
      I don't know if they still issue anonymous cards with operator-logo's on them by now from ticket machines, but they used to do so in the past. Disposable cards usually always feature the operator logo or multiple operator logos on them. Personal cards requested from operators are still issued with a operator-logo on them.

    Does one need to check out of trams and buses when using the card or just on the trains

    Is there anywhere at Schiphol airport where you can purchase a chipkaart? I usually purchase mine at the building across from Central Station but that's a bit inconvenient.

      @@AdderFTW888 But where? The same counter where you can buy your train ticket to Amsterdam?
      I just don't feel like dealing with a strange ticket vending machine after a long flight.
      Don't want to encounter any issues with my credit card.

    Do they accept debit cards from other countries at the NS and GVB machines?

    • @weeardguy
      @weeardguy 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Normally, yes. They did change something about it, making more cards possible for use or something, don't know exactly what. Credit cards can only be used with a PIN-number and must be VISA or MAESTRO.

    • @Julist1010Aviation
      @Julist1010Aviation 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If your card is a Maestro card, then it is accepted. But I believe whatever transaction that is made with an international card in the Netherlands there will be admin fee that will be taken out too

    • @adriankerber2260
      @adriankerber2260 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have debit card with MAESTRO logotype then you can use card for all coutries..The Netherlands have a litlle different system than other coutries.. They use only Maestro and every Nederland debit cards you receive from a bank it will be Maestro. Visa and MasterCards are only for CreditCards in NL. If you have Visa or MasterCard debit card from other coutries you can have problem with payments in many places like shops, post NL and many other... Some points of sale accept other cards than Mestro.. I never used credit cards from other coutries and never used debit cards other than Maestro so it hard to say for me how it looks like.

    Is there a unlimited travel pass for 3 days?

    • @weeardguy
      @weeardguy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Unfortunately, 'unlimited' can mean 2 things: there are 3-day passes that grant you unlimited acces to public transport but that only applies to vehicles from GVB (the cities transportation company).
      Unfortunately, you cannot use buses from Connexxion or EBS or use the train.
      There are tickets (Amsterdam & Region Travel Ticket) that enables you to take whatever modality from GVB and buses operated by Connexxion and EBS. Unfortunately, the train is still not included.
      If you want to travel by train from Schiphol to the city Centre (or any other trainstation within Amsterdam) the Amsterdam Travel Ticket can be bought for 3 days that enables access to GVB-public transport (a few special buses from Schiphol by Connexxion as well) and train-stations Schiphol and all in Amsterdam.
      The most important thing (as far as I know, I could be wrong) is to never ever forget to tap out (check out) with the card when you leave a bus or tram. Most train- and metrostations are built in such a way it's hard to forget doing so, but I can truly figure people forgetting this in the bus or tram.
      If you forget this, there is a chance the card will be rendered 'invalid' by the next machine (a reason why I think this system is bad...)
      Hope this helps.

    With an OV-Chipkaart card can we travel 2 people?

    • @adriankerber2260
      @adriankerber2260 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can not... There is no choice to choose payment for more than one person at card readers.. You must have your own card.. 7,50€ is a cost for empty non-personal card and then you need to charge it

  • @Mephistopheles13
    @Mephistopheles13 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    LMFAO, so THAT is how €20, just went missing from my OV-Chipkaart (not checking out from one transit going to another). Also, when the actor was asking for assistance... Was that Amsterdam Centraal? It looked like Amsterdam Centraal

    • @weeardguy
      @weeardguy 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes and that's (in my opinion) the biggest disgrace to the customer. They could have thought of something better (And the railways did so in the past, they only didn't do a good job learning from it)
      You can get the money (minus the route you travelled (if so)) back, but it's such a hassle I think many people don't do so (if they even know how)
      The station you see is Amsterdam Amstel.
