I wonder what the point to put only one node in node group like at 3:13? Is it personal preferences or something else? No hate just curious.

I originally had a plan to put more than just that node but never got around to it. I was gonna mix some ambient occlusion and such in but just made it a separate group instead. Really no point to it other than I could copy and paste the color easily and change it for all objects at once if I felt like it!

Volumetric are so easy and so powerful! Do you find it slows down render times though?

They are great, but yes they do slow down render times. If you want an alternative you can always use a mist pass. It adds a blanket fog to the scene but doesn’t add to render times really.
