I've been building for about 45 years and I admit, when I started seeing this trick, I was extremely skeptical, but Im willing to at least try it. After scouring every store in three counties and coming up empty handed, I wound up ordering it off of Amazon. It arrived today while I was at work. I first did a test shot on a panel I use to test paint colors. After seeing no I'll effects after three coats, I set it up to cure, then I hit it with a used dryer sheet. After being satisfied it wouldn't hurt my paint, I proceeded to shoot it on a truck I'm building (AMT KENWORTH W925) The results are absolutely incredible!!! A nice, deep, uniform shine on all surfaces.
Thank you for the great video and for sharing this. I'll be telling all my friends who build.

Mr. Rex another informative video. Three things, one it goes on thin and is ok in durability you have to be very careful if you want to use a rubbing compound for a better shine you'll will rub through it. Two, future pledge or any other floor polish is kind of like an acrylic polyurethane and can use it like you would use the Createx 4030 or any other model gloss varnish.
Three you can use it to thin thick craft paint. It give it more adhesion and it makes the paint flow better. And on the Airfix starter kits where you the paint it with brush with the supplied paint I've brushed on Future clear as a basecoat it works like a primer but clear.............I've gone through bottles of this stuff through the years............Thanks Mr. Rex

If you mix the Pledge revive it with Tamiya X-21 Flat Base, you can adjust it from being a gloss to a satin, or even a flat. For example a ratio of 5:1 will produce a flat coat, where 10:1 will be somewhere between a flat and a satin, and 15:1 will give a satin finish.

Great Video!! Like you said "It's the poor mans 2K". You should have tried it over a darker color, it shows up better. A lot of purists insist that this should never ever be used on a model kit. Not everyone can afford the 2K nor is everyone going for a competition quality build. This does work well and I have never had any issues with any kit that I've applied it to. For clean up, I use straight ammonia to clean the Pledge Floor Gloss out of my airbrush when I'm done. After the ammonia bath I rinse with hot tap water. I've never had an issue with this method of cleaning. I also have a video concerning the use of Pledge on my channel.

Pledge used to be Future. Johnson & Johnson acquired it and eventually rebranded it as Pledge. For a time, only the cloudy, lemon-scented was available. Fortunately, they re-released the old Future formula, but under the Pledge brand name.
With regard to acrylic metallics: Vallejo Metal Colors are superb, followed by their Model Colour metallics; after Vallejo, Army Painter are excellent as are ProAcryl from Monument Hobbies. Though, only the Vallejo Metallic Colours are have a reasonable shine, the rest are rather dull and brushed-looking. Green Stuff out of Spain has some excellent metallic pigments/powders made from metal instead of mica and can be mixed with any medium you choose. So, if you prefer acrylics, you can mix them with acrylic, gloss, semi-gloss or matte medium and/or simply mix them with Vallejo's acrylic polyurethane varnishes. Personally, I have not tried mixing them with Pledge/Future floor polish, but I gave mixed acrylic paints with it for decades to make what is generally referred to as "magic wash", which is great for shadowing and weathering. Pledge also makes a good base for water-slide transfers.
    A note on Army Painter:
pop the dropper off and stir thoroughly before shaking for 2 minutes prior to initial use. If they do not come with an agitator, a marine-grade 8mm metal bearing works, though I personally prefer hematite so, over the years there is no chance of rust.

The cloudy polish is decent for making wargaming and military washes and is useful for terrain and dioramas. I don't know if it has any acceptable applications for car kits or gunplas as people want a factory finish.
But this Pledge Future Shine stuff is awesome. When you find it, stock up. Lots of people use it on cockpits and windshields.

    It's good stuff. Very versatile.
I actually use it to make thinner too. Just 50/50 pledge and distilled water. It seems to work great as a thinner and I could swear it helps the paint to level nicely too. Only caveat is that it turns matte paint into more of a semi gloss or satin finish.
People use it to dip cockpits and windscreens etc into as well. Some even use it as an adhesive to fix those parts in place.

Pledge floor gloss ( long ago Future) is an absolute necessity in any airbrushing/modeling setup. We even used it years ago on full size show cars over the laquers of the 1960s and 1970s. It was almost like applying the modern clear coats of today, but half a century ago. I use this stuff in local area over matt or satins where wet slide decals will go. After decals are cured dry, a quick dull coat can re-satin the overall finish. Decals look best if applied over a gloss surface, WITH a decal setting solution. I use Solvaset but there are others.. Search this channel for Rex's really excellent and extensive look at many decal setting solutions.

@@grigoriosbakirtzis9158 I've seen, and heard from many modelers that this works great to seal decals as well as a coat before applying decals and washes. Why not use this as a much cheaper alternative? Scale modeling isn't a cheap hobby and work arounds like this are perfect for modelers on a budget.

I've been using future for years on models, and it works great. Doesn't yellow or degrade at all over time, and it's a lot simpler cleanup and self levels much better than some other more expensive clears I've tried.

Ive used pledge for dipping my glass for a crystal clear finish. I also use it as a thinner for my acrylics and a topcoat prior to applying decals. Ive only used it twice as a clearcoat with mixed results. The first time I used it as a clear coat, it looked fantastic till it cured and dried to an uneven finish with micro bubbles. The second time I used it as a clearcoat, it was ok, but it didnt take tape and pulled off my decals. It has its purpose bit for ultra clear coats, I stick with laquer top coats I can polish

Controversial! I've seen quite a few arguments on modelling pages about the use of floor polishes to clear coat models. The way I see it, whatever works for the modeller, is the best to use :-) It's Pledge "Multi Surface Wax" i use, with the tagline at the top of the label saying "The improved formula Klear is now.. Pledge Multi Surface Wax". Normally I apply using a soft wide brush :-)

It’s great product for clear plastic, and using for gloss to apply decals to, and seal. Once dry, it can be toned w/ Tamiya flat or semi-gloss.

    • @garethmurphy8235
      @garethmurphy8235 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I am just about ready for this step and I wanted to follow up with your "toned" insight..
I have currently just finished a full Mr Hobby Aqueous paint job on an AnchoreT/YJL suped up MG Sazabi and I am at the clear step.. My plan was to use a coat of this (Pledge-Future) then decals; another light coat then panel liner; and then finally a Flat Premium Top from Mr Hobby. Are you saying that although this acts as a gloss for decals and panel liner to protect the acrylic paint you can finish off with a Flat/Matte final top coat and still get the subdued final finish we all want???
My fear has always been that using this for the initial top coats would wind up with a glossy look to the final coat but, it seems you (and others) are saying that is not the case and the actual final coat of Tamiya/Mr Hobby Top Coat will bring the model back to the matte finish?

I looked around for this stuff here in Sweden a few weeks ago. The version I found has the same name and "tag lines" on it, "Pledge", "Revive It", "floor gloss" and "Original". But the bottle is white and the content had the same kind of look as Alclad Aqua Gloss (slightly milky). Seems it's not only the names that differ between different places it's being sold.
I gave it a quick test but I wasn't a fan of how easily it starts running if you go even barely too thick with it, it's very very touchy. At least in my limited experience.
