Thank you for the best delivery of a dad joke I’ve seen at the beginning of this video. Thanks for all your videos and for your beautiful humanity. All blessings and prayers your way.
Excellent video. I ended up using this product because I couldnt find Pledge and it was the only thing I found at Home Depot. I also found it worked well for coating clear parts, windshields etc.
I just started following---been looking for a replacement for Pledge for a while, actually for my floors! Then I discovered the Pledge idea for modeling...Thanks!
I enjoy your videos very much, I' getting back into modelling after being disabled in a work related injury. I like the 1/20 scale Maschinen Krieger models it's easier on my 68 year old eyes. Glad you are feeling better it does take awhile to get over stuff as we get older. I like your on line builds and explanation of the different steps and your reasoning behind them. looking forward to your future projects, you are teaching this old dog some new tricks. Thanks for your time.
Thanks so much for your kind words! I am grateful! Yes - the Ma. K stuff is definitely at a scale that is easier on our older eyes. And I'm glad to hear you like the explanations! sometimes I get criticized for it, but I feel like there are plenty of channels that do a great job of showing "how". But I thin k communicating the "why" is equally (if not more!) important. While my ongoing projects will be Warhammer focused, I always try to keep in mind that I need to address things in a way that make the techniques and products applicable to any genre. Thanks again for your kind words and encouragement, for subscribing, and for watching and commenting! Enjoy the hobby - happy day to you!
This video is just what I needed. I just came across your channel a couple weeks ago after getting back into the hobby in like over 20yrs. I love your videos, man. Between your personality and how thorough a informative you are, it’s great stuff. Hope you’re feeling better by now!
My local Walmarts ran out of stock of the pledge. I was able to find 2 bottles at a rural grocery store. I grabbed them. I will try the Quick Shine. Thanks for your videos. Hope you feel better and have a full recovery.
You saved my modeling life ^_^ Just ran out of my last bottle of Pledge. Well, didn't really run out, I think I let it sit too long and it got really yellow.
I'm definitely going to try some of this. Using hobby-specific gloss coats gets expensive quickly for as you call it 'utility' coats. Save the expensive stuff for the finish coat.
Exactly! A bottle of this stuff can last years. And if you already have some under the sink for floor use - bonus! And thanks for noting it is a utility coat! ;) Thank you for watching and commenting!
Yeah, it is a great gloss. That's one I'd turned to for a "proper" glossy look. And you're right - it is bullet proof! I LOVE your channel - thank you so much for watching and commenting on my video. I am most grateful!
Down here in the South of Australia I have had to use a replacement for Pledge called Long Life Self shining Floor polish a while back. $14 for 1 litre :) cheers for your video and hope you recover mate 👍👍
I'm having some problems with Future reacting with some decal softening solutions. I tried to apply Tamiya Mark Fit Strong and it destroyed the future gloss layer. I don't know exactly what I did wrong. Still use it for protecting clear parts but I'm avoiding gloss coats. In my opinion the best Future replacement is Alclad Aqua Gloss. It's as easy to use as Future and you can use any decal softening solution.
Yeah, it is not as friendly to the harsher decal solutions. I use Solvaset, and it works fine with that. But the Alclad stuff is extremely durable, so it's a great one to use. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Ok, I just comment in said video and you replied and this video popped up on the side. Damn I did not know Future was gone! I got a 2/3 bottle from 4 years ago... Glad I seen this video and I have some of this in my cart for the next trip to Wally World. I decided to sub because I like what your doing. LLAP 🖖
Hey there Jon. I enjoy your videos. I just ran out of my Future wax and scoured all the “Superstores” looking for a new bottle of wax. No luck. I did find this quick shine at a local Dollar General. So out of desperation I bought it gambling that it would work. Well your video was just what I needed to know that I bought a good alternative. Thank you for the piece of mind and hope your feeling better.
A few weeks ago I came across my bottle of Pledge back when it still had the future branding on it. Still sealed, but I noticed quite a bit of yellowing despite not being exposed to sun and being in a conditioned room all this time. Hopefully this quick shine doesn't yellow the same way this does. Though, to be honest, it could be me not remembering it being this yellow when I bought it. I could have sworn it was more clear though.
It's pretty much clear when new. My old bottles have yellowed a bit, but I still use them. When airbrushed on the coating looks fine, and after weathering it's not really a worry. If you're not sure about your bottle, give it a test on an old model or a milk jug - that'll let you see how much of an issue if any it will be. For my work, I've not found it to be a problem. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@JonBius out of curiosity, is the yellowing noticeable when put in a different container? Since mine is sealed, i haven't ruled out the possibility of the PET plastic container yellowing while the material inside is remaining clear.
Glad to hear it! I'm always happy to know that the videos are useful and helpful. As always, thanks for your support and friendship. Happy day to you my friend!
Wonder if it will yellow over time? I have a very old bottle of Future which seems to have taken on a bit of a yellow tint; I'm looking forward to trying this product. Appreciate the video...
I have a P-51 that I gave a coat of Future back in 2006. No yellowing on it. The stuff in the bottle does change color a bit, but in my experience the actual coat on a model is so thin that it doesn't matter. When I have had people say a model yellowed, I suspect it is due to exposure to sunlight, the underlying paint itself (white will get dingy over time) or other factors. HTH! Thanks for watching and commenting!
THANK YOU!!!!! For researching and testing out this new replacement for Pledge. Question here, I saw a TH-camr used pledge to mix in with Vallejo Primers mixing it 50/50. He claims it makes it more adherent and faster drying time. Have you ever tried this out? If so, can this Quickshine also work?
My experience with acrylic primers is that generally anything you mix with them will reduce it's "priming" effect, whether it is an attempt to make them more durable, or to thin them. If a primer isn't sturdy enough in and of itself that it would need additives, it's probably not a very good primer. You can of course try it and see what you think. But I have found primers work best as they are, with no additives. FWIW - I used Badger Stynylrez as my acrylic airbrush primer, and Vallejo Spray as my rattle can primer. I also use Tamiya and Mr. Color rattle can primer at times, and Mr. Surfacer. (That one does require thinning, but that is by design.) I hope that helps. Thanks for your kind words, and for watching and commenting!
Hi Jon, quick question from a noobie at using this product. So i used Testor enamels on my plane. Can I apply this over the Testor enamel? And after that use acrylic washes and finish with an acrylic matte coat? Thank you
Yes, this product, or any acrylic gloss coat, would work well. Give it 12-24 hours to cure, and then do the final steps you listed, and then if needed an acrylic matte coat. Have fun - thanks for watching and commenting!
I did one test, on a spare canopy, and it worked OK. Not as good as Future, but OK. Give it a try on a spare clear piece and see what you think before trying it on a "production" model. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thank you for this update. I found your videos very early on my path to modeling and gunpla. Your videos are always positive and encouraging. Have you tried this with tamiya x21 flat base? 70/30 ratio is my go to topcoat in matte. Definitely needed this video because my first bottle of pledge only has 80% left after 3 years! 😂
Thanks so much for your kind words! I'd tried Tamiya Flat with Future, but I didn't find it offered any advantages in my use over the satin and flat coats I already use. But I know many folks do like that combination. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Here in Australia it's not much cheaper than the hobby products; we're talking AU$56 (postage included) for 27 oz. Can't buy it in shops here, it has to be imported. Think I'll stick with my Alclad or Mr Color GX. Pity, though. Hope you're totally recovered by now, Jon.
Yeah, if some of these non-modeling products aren't in your area, it does make more sense to use hobby-specific products. Here in the states a bottle of the stuff is about the same price as a burger meal at a fast food place. Although you may want to check around - there might be a locally sourced product that fits the bill. Thanks so much! I did recover from that episode... now it's fall again and I'm back to having a cold. Doh! :D Happy day to you friend!
Bummer about the cold, my friend! Hope you get over it soon. Shipping from the US to us is astronomically expensive, which is why this stuff costs so much here. I'll keep an eye out, anyway. Thanks for replying.
Hey Jon, I used this stuff a couple months ago and it went on great over my waterslides on a black gloss truck. I just used it today on the same color truck and waterslides and it dried hazy. Any reason why it did that? Any idea how to fix it on the truck I already applied it to?
Very clear and informative product review! Thank you for taking the time to put this together. Picking some up on my way home today thanks to your video!!
I have no experience with Pldege, I tried Quick Shine, I applied it by brush, light coat, on a Gundam Universe RX 78-02 Gundam Figurint (not a model kit) that I had god for few bucks on sale and which I modofied and painted. I had the following issues: 1 it did not really self level 2 in some places it left a yelloish patina that peeled off (I must have had some pooling in those spot) 3 it acted as a solvent on some paint of unknown type that was present on the model (the welloy in particular, and red on the head) and on the metallic acrylic paint I had applied (long since dried!).
It always helps to try out a test spot or two, especially if the model/figure it not a traditional kit. Quite often the materials and paints may not be exactly the same as what you'd find in the modeling world. Yellowing usually indicates an interaction with the underlying layers in my experience. Self leveling can be a fine line to walk, especially if brush painted. Sorry you had to deal with that! Thanks for reporting this, and for watching and commenting!
I will respectfully play devil's advocate on one point you made about using Pledge as a final gloss coat. I have done a final gloss on several models and it has produced some of the best high-gloss finishes I've ever seen. You just need a lot of coats. Pledge will 'dull down' after it cures, so after a mist coat, you need a medium and several wet coats. You also need to be willing to do some polishing. You CAN sand Pledge, but do not wet sand it as it will make the finish foggy. use a fine-grit sanding stick and polishing compounds.
I don't know if there is an expiration date. It normally turns slightly yellow in the bottle over time. I've never had a bottle last that long actually. I do recommend storing it in a cool dry place away from sunlight or bright light. HTH. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Hi!! Ive heard and seen that Pledge used to seal a chrome finish paint well without impacting the chrome finish...have you noticed that this quickshine product works the same in this regards?
Thank you for this video! I've been looking for an affordable product to use as a base varnish layer, and I managed to track down Quick Shine at a Home Depot in town. Are you still finding that it applies well by brush? My plan is to use some AK Interactive Ultra Matte to knock down the gloss afterwards, and hopefully also prevent any yellowing or cracking down the line.
Jon, thanks for a great video and hope you are feeling better. I've always had varied results with Pledge so I'm looking forward to trying Quick Shine now that I know from this video no to thin it! Thanks for that! I'd like to know what needle or tip size and what psi.setting works best for this product?
I'm feeling much better this week - thank you! I've used all sorts of needle sizes - .2 through .7. I tend to favor a .3 or .5. I generally shoot everything at 18-20psi. however, different people have different preferences. I recommend trying a few different settings and see what works best for you. The key is really consistency of application - wet, but not flooding. Practice will carry the day! Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
Thank you for the video. It prompted me to test Quick Shine and it works very well for me. I've used the same green label multi floor finish but am curious about the Quick Shine Pure Wax (pink label). The first two ingredients are R/O water and Styrene Acrylic Polymer and its ph neutral. Have you tried that one yet and if so, does it work the same as the green label?
You are quite welcome! I'm glad to hear it worked well for you. I've not tried any of the alternatives they have. Let me know if you test it out! Thanks for watching and commenting - happy day to you!
@JonBius yes sir I will. I've been using the green label as a sealer for airbrush chrome on fishing lures. So far it's about the only thing I've found that doesn't kill the reflective quality of the chrome. I'll test the pink label pure wax and let you know the results.
@JonBius so I dipped 4 spoons I chromed about a month ago with the pink label pure wax. The only difference I can tell from the green label is the pink buffs out to a glossier shine. Sprayed super smooth too. They seem to be interchangeable for airbrush purposes.
@@JonBius Dollar General fell in love with me when I started testing chrome/sealer combinations. Think I'm in the 300 neighborhood of spoons chromed and sealed. 7 chromes and 9 different clears/sealers.
Sorry i hsvent watched the video yet but will do it. My question is do you use it out of the bottle or dilute it? Its for airbrush use. If you dilute it, what product fo uou use?
Thanks for this tip, Jon! I've got about half a bottle of Future, a bottle I bought almost 30 years ago, but I've been thinking of getting a backup. As you point out, even if we don't use it as a gloss coat, we can use it on our floors. I was wondering about ammonia solutions for thinning Quick Shine. I'm sorry if I missed it, but I didn't hear you mention that. I use ammonia to clean the brush I use to apply Future by hand, or to run through my airbrush (ammonia! it'll strip off the chrome! 😁) after spraying Future. If I got any drips or pooling, too, a little ammonia will dissolve it and I can with wick away the excess with a paper towel, or let it level itself again as it cures. Have you tried that with Quick Shine? And get well soon, brother! I had a bad sinus infection right after Thanksgiving, and it lasted 3 weeks. I think our immune systems are out of tune these days. YbiC Brad PS - the beard is great! Makes you look like a patriarch. "And it was in those days, that Jon did try a different gloss medium. And he shared it with his people..."
I never recommend thinning Pledge/Quick Shine with anything. (It's in the video somewhere.) Whatever you use will break down the product in some way, decreasing it's usefulness. I gave up ammonia for anything in modeling years ago. IPA does a good job of cleaning the airbrush, and if something harsher is needed, I use MCLT. Trying to clean up drips and pooling can get loppy-jawed really quick. I make sure to avoid those conditions so I don't have to clean it up. Too many potential complications otherwise. I think I'm turning a corner with this sinus/respiratory thing. But I'm still not 100%. I'm ready for it to be done! I think of it less as a beard, and more as a refusal to shave anymore. 🤣
Use with caution. I applied this Quick Shine on my Evergreen polystyrene clear plastic windows. It basically ruined them...I brushed it on as in the video, I got wavy pool spots on the windows when it dried, which was a disaster. The only thing I can explain is it reacted with the Novus polish I had cleaned the clear plastic prior to the Quick Shine. So I tried it on unpolished plastic, same result. Maybe this is acceptable to some, but it looks horrible as far as I'm concerned.
I have yet to determine if the results were due to the Evergreen plastic sheet itself...#9006, 0.010 inch thick (.25mm) - the sheen of the plastic may cause pooling of the Quick Shine.
No, I've not tried that. As I no longer build aircraft I don't work with canopies much. Grab a spare and test it out! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I need to spray paint some plastic flower pots metallic to bounce sun beams around my shady garden. I was gonna use pledge to seal only to find its discontinued! Ack! So yeah, I was wondering about this or I've heard car wax too. Maybe the wax they use for chalk paint? Any recommendations?
The gloss coat may actually reduce the reflectivity on the metallic surfaces, depending on how shiny they are. You may want to test that. As to the other products, I've not tried those before, so I wouldn't know how they'd work. Perhaps mirrors, or foil? That might provide more reflectivity. Good luck in finding a solution! Thanks for watching and commenting, and happy day to you!
I do a few rinse outs with plain water. Then follow up with two or three color cups of alcohol. If anything still feels sticky, I do a blow through of some lacquer thinner, like Mr. Color Color Leveling thinner. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thanks! I have, and while it sorta works, it's not as good as Future was in all cases. It seems to depend on how clean and smooth the canopy is. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Do decals really look good using this ? I'll be doing some decals soon and want the edges of them to blend in. Do decals do this ? Can you show some examples ?
Any gloss varnish - whether it's this type, or a proper modeling gloss coat, is only part of the picture when working with decals. The gloss varnish provides a nice, smooth surface for application to help reduce the chance of bubbles forming underneath, which can lead to silvering or lumps. However, there are several other factors that go into the decal process that affect the final outcome. - First, the decals themselves need to be very thin. For example, Eduard uses decals from Cartograph, which are incredibly thin and leave little in the way of edges. On the other hand, Tamiya decals, while usually of good color and overall quality, tend to be fairly thick, which can leave an edge. So the quality of the decal is an important factor. - How much of the clear decal film "sticks out" around the decals edge is also a factor. Even very thin decals may leave a visible mark where the clear decal film is. So that needs to be very carefully trimmed as closely as possible to the actual decal printing as possible to help reduce visible lines. - Making sure to work out all of the air and moisture from under the decal is critical. - The use of decal setting solutions, such as Solvaset, can help the edges of a decal "snuggle down" better, so that is important. - Overcoating the decals with gloss coats afterwards no only seals them in against later steps, but can also help hide any edges - but only to a certain extent. So while this product in the video is an important step in good, smooth decal application, it's only part of the process. Check out this video - it may provide some additional help: th-cam.com/video/lXg3S-nryTY/w-d-xo.html Thanks for watching and commenting!
oh hi i was just wondering what i might do now that Pledge is gone again and this Quick Shine looks to be a good replacement. I wanted to give a bit of input and did some research and where to get it and such and came across that this is the Quick Shine FINISH and turns out Quick Shine also makes Quick Shine Hardwood Floor Luster. It's supposed to be more glossy and shiny as it implies and people have not just used in on wood flow like on laminate floor and furniture maybe you can pick up of this bottle and see how much more glossy and such this stuff is on models oh and apparently Luster has a bit of uv protection . i woudl love to know what you think and if its just that bit more glossy/smooth this might be nice oh and turns out you can get like 27oz,64oz , 3.78l bottle of Quick Shine finish but luster 27oz, 64oz only if anyone is curious best of luck and stay heather good sir.
I've not tried that particular product. I don't use much gloss coat any more with doing 40K, so I'll probably stick with what I have. But thanks for the tip - someone may take it and run with it! Thanks for watching and commenting!
hey so I just started building model cars and you mentioned that this will not work well as a final coat so I was wondering if you had any specific recommendations to get that nice pure glossy finish that you look for with cars.
I'd say check in some car builder forums and groups. They can probably offer better suggestions that they've used. I've never built cars, so other than car builders I know telling me it isn't glossy enough for them, I'm not sure what to suggest. Good luck finding a solution, and thanks for watching and commenting!
Thank you so much! I've used a .2, .3, .5, and .7. I found the .3 worked OK, but you really have to make sure to get the flow right to make sure it's leaning towards a wet coat. The .5 and .7 worked better by far. The .2 worked - it just took *forever*. :) Still, experiment with what you have and figure out how to make it work for you. I hope that helps - thanks for watching and commenting!
if any of yall like to do washes and paint minis with acrylics and such- I do a lot of 3d print paints- this is great for mixing in with most paints and thinning it out w.o losing color!!!
I did that when i built aircraft more than a few times. It can work very well for panel lines, etc. I do caution that if used as a thinner to only use it sparingly - too much and it becomes more like a glaze and it can be a bear to build up an opaque coat. But it is definitely a quite useful product for so many things. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I've not tested it with Maskol, so I'm not sure. In general, if it worked over Future/Pledge, it should work with QS. But they do have minor differences, so I'd test it. At worst, you'll have a bottle of floor wax for the next spring cleaning. :) Thanks for watching and commenting!
I've had problems in the past with Tamiya and Humbrol thinners interacting with floor coats, and even modeling acrylic clear coats. They're very "hot" enamel thinners. I've not had any problems with AK Interactive or Ammo of Mig odorless thinner, or using artist's quality odorless turpenoid. HTH! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with that product, so I don't know how it works. Perhaps check some other forums or groups online? Thanks for watching and commenting!
It might work … but Walmart offers Quick Shine at $11.57 for a half-gallon (64 ounce) bottle. A better deal, presuming you are in the US. I want to say I DID see a video on TH-cam that tried several different alternatives to replace “Pledge” - which I will always refer to as “Future” - and the best results were from the Quick Shine. I still have at least three full bottles of Future, but I think I may pick up a couple of gallons of Quick Shine just to be safe. A Future-drinking monster might find my stash and consume it, and who knows whether Quick Shine will stay on the market as long as Future did?
Jon, thank you so much for this information. Haven't been watching a lot of vids lately, and it seems like this fell into my lap for a specific reason. I've wondered about this product every time I've seen it on the shelf. Curious, did you try dipping a canopy with it? Anyway, prayers your way that you stay on the mend. A month is a long time to fight any bug! Be well.
Thanks so much for your kind words and prayers! I've not tried it on a canopy. My guess is that because it behaves so much like Pledge, it should work. But definitely test it out. Thanks again, and thanks for watching and commenting!
I dipped clear parts, but I found it doesn't work quite as well as Pledge/Future. Make sure the clear plastic is *very* clean - that seemed to help in my tests. Definitely use a test piece first! HTH!
I'd say test it in an out of the way spot, or on a test model. Tamiya panel liner is a bit "hotter" than others, but I'd used it successfully over Pledge. A few tests should give you an idea of how well it will work. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@driftsc2gaming779 I just did a part that I airbrushed the quick shine but it didn't hold up to tamiya panel line accent on, started taking off the quick shine
For weathering, it depends on what you're doing. For oil washes, it's great. For other weathering, a satin surface is usually best. But experimenting and trial and error will show the way!
Good video mate. If u want cheaper and better product. Go to cleaning suppliers and buy floor sealer. Or ask friend who a cleaner for a jar full, cheers Graham
Generally that is due to the product being applied too thick, or in moist conditions. (Or thinning with water - I never thin that type of stuff.) Try airbrushing/brushing a small bit on a test area. Generally that will "clear it up". (No pun intended!) Why that works, I don't know, but it mostly does. (Mostly...) I hope that helps!
quick shine is HORRIBLE! I tried it.. and its just terrible. I brushed it on and when it dries it dries like it has major dust in it. Its the product. because other clears I tried in the same room at the same time showed NO dust. But Quick Shine just dried rough...
Thanks for your input! I've not experienced the problems you've had, but I know not all products work for everyone. Hopefully you can find a better alternative. Thanks for wathcing and commenting!

But the Alclad stuff is extremely durable, so it's a great one to use.

great info Jon; get well soon; prayers
Thanks so much on all counts friend - I am grateful! Happy day to you. 😊

Carry on Jon! Thanks again. I know that you are healthier than when you originally posted.....still gonna pray for ya.
I appreciate that! I am always grateful for prayer - thank you so much!

Thanks so much for your kind words, and thank you for watching and commenting! I'm so glad the video was helpful.
Hi Jon! Hope you are feeling better. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this product, a very helpful video. Be well and happy day to you.
Thanks so much for your kind words, and thanks for watching and commenting! Happy day to you as well!
@@GregAtlas It still has some discoloration. I tried it. :) But like I said, it's not been a problem for me.

Great video Jon, I really like the detail and theory you provide with your videos. That helps me so very much.
Glad to hear it! I'm always happy to know that the videos are useful and helpful. As always, thanks for your support and friendship. Happy day to you my friend!
I see you found this stuff, too! I picked up a bottle from the local Wegman's and it worked pretty well.
It checks off all the right boxes, doesn't it? Thanks for watching and commenting!
HTH!

Sending you prayers buddy.

Surfacer. (That one does require thinning, but that is by design.)
I hope that helps.
Thanks for this video. I need this. Prays for health.
Thanks so much! I am finally feeling much better. And thanks for watching and commenting!
Is Quick Shine suitable for dunking canopies and clear plastic to remove scratches..? Thanks.
I did one test, on a spare canopy, and it worked OK. Not as good as Future, but OK. Give it a try on a spare clear piece and see what you think before trying it on a "production" model.

Ya beat me to it, Jon! 😂 I've been experimenting with the Quick Shine and was going to write something up, but I'll just reference this video.

Doh! :D
Happy day to you friend!
I've not had it do that to me. I know some folks said a second coat clears it up, but I have not tested that. I hope you can find a fix!
Thanks for imfo will pray for you

@@JonBius i am restarting modelling after a life apart, taking it very easy, the idea is gunpla with only detail painting and weathering, all by brush
@@giuliogennaro4281 Have fun with it! 😊
You CAN sand Pledge, but do not wet sand it as it will make the finish foggy. use a fine-grit sanding stick and polishing compounds.
hi!
What is the expiration date on the Pledge?
I bought this product in 2016. Now the lacquer in the bottle has turned yellow.
I've not tried that. I'd suggest testing it on a spare chrome part, or on chrome sprue.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thanks so much! It does brush well - use it just as you would Pledge/Future.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@ChrisCardino-is4bd Cool! That's good to know - thanks! Spoons for the win. 😂
Straight from the bottle - no thinning!
YbiC
Brad
PS - the beard is great!
Interesting! I'll have to give it further tests! I'm sorry you had that experience.
Thanks for watching and commenting.
I have yet to determine if the results were due to the Evergreen plastic sheet itself...#9006, 0.010 inch thick (.25mm) - the sheen of the plastic may cause pooling of the Quick Shine.
My main use of Pledge is to dip clear parts in. Have you tried this product in that manner? Thanks.
What do you use to clean the air brush after using quick shine?
I do a few rinse outs with plain water. Then follow up with two or three color cups of alcohol. If anything still feels sticky, I do a blow through of some lacquer thinner, like Mr. Color Color Leveling thinner.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Great video, hope your healt gets better, have you tried using Shine to put a protective coat on clear parts?
Greetings from Denmark
Check out this video - it may provide some additional help: th-cam.com/video/lXg3S-nryTY/w-d-xo.html

oh hi i was just wondering what i might do now that Pledge is gone again and this Quick Shine looks to be a good replacement.
I wanted to give a bit of input and did some research and where to get it and such and came across that this is the Quick Shine FINISH and turns out Quick Shine also makes Quick Shine Hardwood Floor Luster.
It's supposed to be more glossy and shiny as it implies and people have not just used in on wood flow like on laminate floor and furniture maybe you can pick up of this bottle and see how much more glossy and such this stuff is on models oh and apparently Luster has a bit of uv protection .
i woudl love to know what you think and if its just that bit more glossy/smooth this might be nice oh and turns out you can get like 27oz,64oz , 3.78l bottle of Quick Shine finish but luster 27oz, 64oz only if anyone is curious
best of luck and stay heather good sir.
Hope you are feeling better! One quick question. - what size needle would you use for airbrushing Pledge/Quick Shine?
Thank you so much!
I've used a .2, .3, .5, and .7. I found the .3 worked OK, but you really have to make sure to get the flow right to make sure it's leaning towards a wet coat. The .5 and .7 worked better by far. The .2 worked - it just took *forever*. :)
Still, experiment with what you have and figure out how to make it work for you.
I hope that helps - thanks for watching and commenting!
QUESTION PLEASE - in the video the model was green and it looked blue after coating - is that just a lighting illusion ?
That is a test model, so it gets all sorts of paint jobs. Most of it is green, but one wing is painted blue. Thanks for watching!
@@JonBius thank you, I order some based on your recommendation. May your skies be blue and your winds calm for flying.
if any of yall like to do washes and paint minis with acrylics and such- I do a lot of 3d print paints- this is great for mixing in with most paints and thinning it out w.o losing color!!!
THANKS Jon - newbie question: airbrush cleanup same ? 99% IPA ? Other recommendation ? Pease stay well....
Yes! I do a few flushes with water, then IPA. You should be good to go after that.

How did it perform with things like Maskol?
I've not tested it with Maskol, so I'm not sure. In general, if it worked over Future/Pledge, it should work with QS. But they do have minor differences, so I'd test it. At worst, you'll have a bottle of floor wax for the next spring cleaning. :)
Thanks for watching and commenting!
will tamiya X-20 wipe out these floor coat? I mean, if I apply tamiya panel line ink after these floor coat then using X20 to clean the panel line up.
HTH!

Jon, Do you think the ZEP wet look floor polish might work? $30 for a gallon
Watched an older pledge video and the guy buffed the coat with a dryer sheet and it got pretty glossy.
I've heard folks talk about doing that!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Can you dip parts in this stuff?
I dipped clear parts, but I found it doesn't work quite as well as Pledge/Future. Make sure the clear plastic is *very* clean - that seemed to help in my tests.
Definitely use a test piece first!
HTH!
Do you think I can use Tamiya panel liner over it? Or better to use laquer clear coats?
I'd say test it in an out of the way spot, or on a test model. Tamiya panel liner is a bit "hotter" than others, but I'd used it successfully over Pledge. A few tests should give you an idea of how well it will work.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@JonBius thanks, is this kind of finish a good surface to weather on?
@@driftsc2gaming779 I just did a part that I airbrushed the quick shine but it didn't hold up to tamiya panel line accent on, started taking off the quick shine
For weathering, it depends on what you're doing. For oil washes, it's great. For other weathering, a satin surface is usually best. But experimenting and trial and error will show the way!
That doesn't surprise me about the Tamiya Panel Liners. It's extremely "hot", so much so that I no longer use it.

@@JonBius yes sir thanks for the reply!
Im using on police models and it leave my models foggy. Any suggestions?
Generally that is due to the product being applied too thick, or in moist conditions. (Or thinning with water - I never thin that type of stuff.)
Try airbrushing/brushing a small bit on a test area. Generally that will "clear it up". (No pun intended!) Why that works, I don't know, but it mostly does. (Mostly...)
