I've watched a lot of your content. I'm a DIY painter, and just spraiyed single stage. Whatever it is, I just can't fully grasp how do you know how fast/slow do you have to go (either with single stage or clearcoat) to not get runs but still lay it down wet so that it is smooth and glossy? I understand that for both of these the first coat must not be fully wet to promote adhesion for the subsequent coat but I'm really more looking for tips on spray technique. Maybe this can be an idea for next vid? Thanks!
You have to think about being like a robot, keep the same distance from panel with each pass and during the pass. You're spraying just enough for it to be wet(shiny)and maintain the wet edge. The videos are nice, but you will learn from doing it, the more you do, the better you will get, just takes time, like most things in life.
Another reason not to 'walk the panel' - was doing a (full size) truck box a little while ago. While trying to walk it front to back, I tripped over the damn air hose! On... of course.. the last coat of clear. :( While attempting NOT to do a face plant into the concrete, I ended up with about a 2ft long run. Arrrgggghhhh.....
That sucks man . I'm glad my mentor always taught me from the beginning to walk panels starting with storage vans . Never had a accident like that but never say never 😂.
Hi Brian, really nice job and instructions. We have the Arctic blast here in the north of England, and I can tell you it's really UNPLEASANT! Some rural areas got -20 degrees C a night ago. Looking out my window at 5" of snow that has been here since Monday, so, I've not been anywhere near the garage.

Thank you for your videos,they got me off my açe and did some paint on my Saturn , 2001 had original clear coat gone on hood roof driver door ( pretty much half the car.) Basic sanding just to get clear coat "flakes" off the edges, cleaned ,washed ,dryed,and rattlecan clear sprayed.Horrible by your standards but I really think it looks quite a bit better than it did, I CAN,T STAND THE BURNED OFF STOCK CLEAR COAT LOOK¡¡!!!
I have an 03 safari, factory paint the way it left the factory, there is zero paint on the front edges of the driver and passenger door, luckily gm galvanized the body metal because its clear as day bare metal. I find it kind of funny but it's a testament to the galvanizing
You inspired me to take the job on my 2013 f150, will finish the body work ( replace the quarter panels, i already replaced the cab corners ) and would like to repaint the whole thing, it is black but i would like to paint it charcoal, do you think i will need more than a gallon ? i never touched a paint gun before ...
what tip you use with the sagola?? i switched from 1,3 to 1,2 because clear would not stick. and the clear i use is very thin. the pace you use in much slower than what i go for. i puts out alot of material even with the 1,2 nozzle. thanks i also have some difficulty walking panels, but its needed for truck beds and so.....

I bought a new dodge truck in 2021, never noticed till after bought , this trucks paint was full of orange peel the whole truck, looked awful, but I had done signed on the dotted line
You started clear coating from rear door overlapping into the front door..then finished the front door..on your final clear coat you should of started from front door overlapping into rear door.. to eliminate any heavy build up where your gun finishing on the overlap
This goes to show that theres no final assembly quality control, all japanese car manufacturers have workers inspecting vehicles in the assembly line once they come out of paint, i guess GM doesn't believe in that, if I was a dealer , i would let the manufacturer know specially if paying invoice

I've seen a brand new I believe it was a chevy blazer on the show room floor not outside. Had looked like a run on the c pillar

Ever heard about flashing time? Why laying second coat over fresh clear and risk a run when the other side is tacky.
