The towers you see in the early maps is the airstrip, which would have originally connected to the plaza rather than being a boat ride away. Unused text refers to a level called Lighthouse Island, which the airstrip might have inherited the location of while the lighthouse was relocated to the plaza.
Yeah I presumed that to be the case, granted it is apparently a seperate map still as it not part of that heights map, so it is possible that the lighthouse island refers to that portion there since that tower can be a lighthouse too
Honestly, I don't buy into the theory that Sunshine was rushed. I think that people say that because they didn't like the game. It's an excuse for them to try and justify not liking it. It seems very polished to me. I've always loved the game.
@@JMFSpike well there are some things that still need to be polished. you can take as example some of the physics, the fact of many enemies being used repeteadly (Gooper Blooper, the Goop Piranhas, how in some levels you get two red coins missions...) also taking in mind that they originally had the intention of using a more realistic way of going to other areas like trains etc with their ticket system, which got replaced by a more lazy writing way (just jump into magic paint portals)
also we can only see some intro cutscenes for a couple enemies (Gooper Blooper and Petey Piranha) but we dont see any more of these with other enemies. all of that changed and cut cause of the alleged rush they had to give to the game
I'm knew about some of the cut content like the big guy strolling through town there and the oddity of that book, but I didn't know we now actually have early map layouts and recreations of them, this has been an enjoyable watch and I'm looking forward to part 2 whenever that drops keep it up Gamer man, you are doing great.
Yoshi may have been planned to be used in Noki Bay, Corona Mountain, and the casino in Sirena Beach as versions of the respective areas music with Yoshi bongos exist in the game’s coding; he was most likely cut from the former 2 areas due to the large amount of water and lava respectively in those areas as Yoshi can’t swim in Super Mario Sunshine.
Sometimes, unused content is made/included for the sake of preventing a crash should the player manage to somehow create the scenario that would call for the music to be played. So there's a possibility that Yoshi wasn't planned for these areas at all. Same reasoning can be applied to why goop maps exist for areas that don't have any goop in them. If they didn't, the game might look for something that does not exist and crash.
@@PixlPixel also same reason for those 100 coin shines. Although the yoshi music could be a holdover when the game was planned to be one big world perhaps 🤔
I did. I've seen most of the beta footage before, but never compiled in a way that showed the beta videos and beta maps side by side like you have. Great Video@@TheObsessiveGamer
Those portals to the other levels makes me wonder if some or all of them were meant to be connected at some point, instead of Delfino Plaza being the exclusive way to travel between them. Super Mario Sunshine just seems like a game where I'll always learn something new about it. I have never seen the early Pinna Park with Mecha Bowser screenshot for example. I really enjoy these videos and I'll definitely look forward to more!
Not all the hidden levels have impossible 100 coin spawn locations cause if you collect 99 coins in the main level you keep them into the secret level as long as you dont die in the level. So a fair few of them are not unused. I have done this in the switch version of Sunshine
Sunshine was Odyssey before the Switch was even an idea. If they hadn't rushed things, it probably would have been much bigger and better than it ended up being
@@TheObsessiveGamer Agreed. Either a direct sequel or a full remake incorporating all the dropped ideas would be very nice.
