It’s funny how things always come full circle with slight variations. Anyone who knows the history of American Bluegrass and country music knows that it’s a fusion of European folk music and instruments mixed with African folk music and instruments (think banjo). If it wasn’t for blacks and whites influencing each other we wouldn’t have bluegrass, country or even rock n roll. Love the music keep up the good work. This is what America should be all about.
irish came to america, so bluegrass was born. ironically, the americans are blamed for slavery, and although our forefathers did buy people, a bad thing, the true baddies was England, who profited immensely. Fact. Also we have multiple migration of slaves to the south, more than other areas, so when the Civil War ended (what's a civil war?...) blacks were freed, went north to Brooklyn, to Chicago, and DC, and had to find work, and that work was on the railroad, it was in Appalachia / Kentucky, and headed west. It's the most interesting part of American history if you as me.
Look up the term _rock 'n roll_ . It came from the African-American community as slang for _sex_ --that subject was "taboo" for white people. I think the early days of recording in the US, up until Elvis in 1954, were the equivalent of the European middle ages, but our "musical renaissance" didn't *truly* start until The Beatles hit America.
I love Gangstagrass - “American Music” is one of my favorites. They haven’t gotten half of the attention they deserve. It’s all american music - so proud.
I've listened to probably 10 Gangstagrass songs today and never once thought about clicking any of my favorites on the right side of the screen (PC) or the skip button. Freaking really great American music!
Never n my wildest dreams would i have thought that u could mix these musics n make them sound good but damn i like it. Its p.b. n jelly for the soul yummm
They have revitalized my love of music! I first heard their sound from the theme of "Justified", and I am very glad I searched them out. Modern music..you get sick of any given song after the third time...but THIS, THIS has SO MUCH IN IT that it will endure, and be played by me..
I don’t know how I ended up at this video tonight, but I’m glad I did. Beautiful. Stunning. The woman’s voice is pure and soulful. Her instrumental skill on that thing I’ve never seen is impressive and the banjo and guitar multiply the sound magic. The rhythm and flow of the rappers is phenomenal. These elements put together is perfection. Well done!!!
"The thing" is called a Dobro ,a type of resonator guitar used often in country and bluegrass music, the female singer/Dobro player is Landry McMeans and I believe she is no longer with Gangstagrass ,I absolutely agree with your assessment of her vocal and instrumental skill.
WAIT! I'm confused! What you are saying is that people born in the same hospital, live in the same zip-code, graduated the same high school, attend the same church, work in the same Walmart, vote at the same polling place, celebrate Independence Day on the same block, for 35 years, are "different cultures"! Because one's eyes are blue and the other's brown? MAN! REALLY!
This one gave me goose bumps. You hit it right on the head. They are trying to incite hate between us to keep us weak and distracted. We won't let them win. You guys are amazing. I just found out about you a couple days ago and I'm so glad I did. You guys make real music with an actual message. You are very quickly becoming my favorite band. Thank you and God bless you all and your fans.
Proud Ecuadorian American I speak English and Spanish having been adopted and grown up in a small town in central Pennsylvania this is by far the best genre of songs that describes how it is having grown up in the mountains of Central PA. Brings a tear to my eye I know wherever I go I will always take a piece of where I grew up with thank you for everything I learned during those years.
i love how to different styles actually can coexist. who'd think that rap and bluegrass together would sound so good. most wouldn't but, the fact is there both similar at the roots. rap and blue grass both manly sing about home life and ones self experience. so its fitting to see these to genres come together like this.
Just found this group after watching Justified. No kidding the most exciting music genre I have ever heard. The melding of styles is amazing. I can’t get enough!
Omg... I am from Delco and represent Philly....I get goose bumps/ chicken skin listening to this... BOMB SHIT... PHILLY REPRESENT.... go Eagles go 6ers go flyer... Phillies.... BROTHERLYLOVE #USALANDOFTHEFREE #ONELOVE #PHILLYLOVE
