I said this would happen 10yrs ago..specifically that BYD would buy up everyone Tesla doesn’t…so many dead auto OEMs coming who couldn’t figure out how to build a decent EV
Tesla started in a shuttered Toyota plant in Fremont.
Early on, Tesla shipped 'not completed' EVs to Europe and assembled them in a plant in Holland. IIRC, the cars arrived in containers without their wheels and battery packs.
The US government will have a bit of difficulty barring 'assembled in Mexico' Chinese EVs. Cars are parts. Many of the parts for Ford and GM are manufactured in China.
Yup made in Mexico(or Canada, US) per NAFTA tariff free is the law for everyone
Soon you would have products made in xxx country by China.
The renegotiated North American free trade agreement requires 75% of the cars content to be made in North America to qualify tariff free.
@@dsperalta2851 It doesn’t matter it would still be a Chinese company selling Chinese cars from Mexico into North America with 75% of the parts produced in Mexico and 25% imported parts that will be at least 30% cheaper then domestic produced US cars.
I'm pretty sure US government will change the rules to ban Chinese cars no matter where it is produced.
Excellent report.
So is the EU going to punish Chinese companies for assembling EV's in the EU ? Shot itself in the foot ?
Sorry ? If the Chinese cars are built in Europe, there is no issue.
Thanks!
Chinese EVs are very good.
Proof? "Thrust me bro"? 😂😂😂
The Dutch were squabbling with Nissan which were undercutting their DAF. 1975. The model Nissan was selling so many of was called, the Cherry.
Haha history repeats itself. Sanctions won't help a terrible product or lazy companies.
BYD is the car of choice.
@@urimtefiki226 Not within Europe. They hardly sell.
That must have been right after they stopped selling their cars under the Datsun brand in Europe?
@@stefan2796It,s because the distributor is selling at high prices. If they set up their own dealer network with lower prices then they will start selling.
Cheers mate
I love your content, just wish it was recorded loud enough hear it all.
Morning mate
Second, EV motors will work for chery, that's the Word here in Spain
You got it going on !
I talk to many Europeans ,they welcome car that decent and understand 20K ,only Chinese company can provid affordable cars ,by the way chery's car have a 5 star crash test in EU,so is very impressive
Yes all parts manfactured in China except product that are more competitively produced locally. Basically knock down but assembled locally.
Local employment is created here.
China is the Future of EVs🚗 Amazing Cars and very affordable, 👍👍👍
Pure assembly doesn't change the origin. It will still be chinese then.
They would bring all the chinese workers to work at the EU factory, like how they did with the Silk and Belt Road projects. Local jobs created would be very minimal.
Approved foreign workers in your country is approved by the local labour department. In most cases its jobs that local don't want and is considered local employment figures.
That's not true.@@PeterPanQuails
It would be interesting if some of Italy's own brands did production facility sharing with other brands.
I don't think that companies like Ferrari, or Lamborghini, make a lot of vehicles in a year, so subsidizing their production facilities with a partner firm, could be advantageous to both.
I really don't understand why more companies don't do production facility sharing deals.
It is a great idea for the bottom line.
The biggest risk is losing control and being unable take quick and effective action if you always have to consider your partner's

Must not be true if coming from Reuters!
Those Chinese microcars would actually be really popular in european cities!
There is significant consolidation by all manufacturing in China because of the ev price war, many foreign manufacturers will up sticks and go. For Japan this could be has much political has financial. The major Tesla bloodletting and structural reorganisation focusing solely on AI autonomous vehicles is a mighty technological gamble, particularly with the implications of the significant layoffs implying elements such has the supercharger network will be sold off.
makes sense, is smart, cheap and convenient.... makes sense for the lease as well, rather than demolish and erect a new building elsewhere, which would take time and resources and is pointless... this happens with most businesses.... also has to be strategic... the ultimate aim is for BRI HSR to connect obviously China to its customers and consumers
A old plant is often a bad compromise. Lower efficiency and higher cost for material handling and internal transport.
Nissan also benefits because they then get some money back by selling their factory building instead of it remaining empty and left to deteriorate over time.
Great content Sam. 4000$ new EV's ,with a 25 year comprehensive warranty would be interesting. Lol.
It looks like Chinese EVs will take over in Europe. This will destroy Stellantis, VW, BMW and Daimler. The problem is Berlaymont - the headquarters of the EU talk about tariffs on Chinese EVs - but the individual countries like Spain want the business. Interesting times ahead. Or as the Chinese symbol for crisis has it DANGER & OPPORTUNITY
Europeans can already buy chinese EVs, but they are hardly sold. A low(er) price won't change that.
@@stefan2796 Crumbs. I love your nonchalance as will the Chinese.
@@stefan2796have you ever heard of Japcrap?
The common term for the Japanese invasion in the 70's and 80's.
Unreliable rust buckets.
That's Japan for you.
They'll never make a good car and I'll never buy one because they were brutal to P.O.W's in the war.
15 years later........
Chinese companies normally end up dominating every industry they enter because they are so relentless in bringing new products to the market place. Chinese car makers will be no different
It's Friday morning here😀 Allah day 😆
Nissan should be totally disappointed. They had the lead, all that needed to be done was to improve the Leaf and improve the ENV200. Not sure why they thought the Ariya was going to be another game changer. Mind you I do love the Ariya. Nissan had the masses and lost the masses.
So much for Tariff EU barriers ......
Tariffs are taxhikes. I Trump gets univesal tariffs, you all get hit.
Tariffs only hurt people.
❤❤
Despite what others may not like about China, its the place to be. Everything there is far far much cheaper. What happened to FORD, VW and GM and their founding philosophy of making vehicles for the common man? The gvts of Europe and America are hell-bound to make vehicles as expensive as possible for their own citizens. And not just Vehicles...everything else is expensive there, and of poor quality.
So wherever Tesla pull out business, Chinese will pickup (staff they fired including)
IF people want to buy these chinese tofu cars...
@@stefan2796 HAHAHA This is old anti China rhetoric. It is outdated, try again.
A friend is a consultant engineer in China. She says the Chinese built cars in China are rubbish, really poor quality control. So whether or not Chinese cars, EV and ICE, destined for foreign ports are of a deliberate better build quality.... who knows? I certainly wouldn't buy a Chinese car.
Buyer beware!!!
Even Donald Trump has publicly stated that he would allow Chinese EV firms to setup in the US provided they paid local taxes and created local jobs.
Oh Lord, won't you buy me a new Tesla car
My friends drive I.C.E. Benzes that don't go as far
They wait by the gas pumps as they rapidly dissapear
Oh Lord can't they see the future's all EVs.
Chinese cars assembled in Spain will not qualify for the French ^ Parisian subsidies which could amount to €10k per car.
Pure assembly doesn't change the "origin" of a product. It stays chinese then.
@@stefan2796 well it’s also about the total carbon emissions
@@antwnpowell Then they have to stop producing vehicles.
FYI: PLUG-IN HYBRIDS RULE 👉💪
Aussies say Nissan funny
Europeans say: BYD is a joke. They hardly sell.
All parts will be manufactured in China and put together in Spain, that’s Cherries plan.
Product manual will be printed locally in Spanish language.
You have seen their business plan. I presume.
Then it's going to be a garbage.
@@BACA01 Jealous White European detected.
That chery looks like the older fiat 500 🤔. Good one China, so much for originality.
Not really. Besides, most cars look similar to a degree simply because they are designed for a similar purpose with mostly similar regulations, leaving little room for divergence. There is also a matter of familiarity fashion where if your product looks too different, might be considered ugly and not sell in big numbers, think Fiat Multipla!
@@thabzmad7265 correction, late 1970s-90s fiat 126 which I guess was the successor to the 500. Definitely brings back memories.
@@dingoeatswolf3663 Yeah, I see it now that you mentioned year the model. Either way, Chinese are now paving the path with design originality, check out the last few years of China auto shows, you will be wowed with the majority of never seen before concepts and production cars, as opposed to a few "similar to" cars as to have alluded.
Trump will ban EVs
I'm not sure about that
Trump prefers big cars, with big gasoline engines. Black SUV, with a big block V8.
Shut it down !!! They are rubbish !!! Do some call them cheap as chips kamikaze machines ???
Who really gives a damn?
BYD has invested heavily in Europe, they sold less than 3000 cars in Europe Q1. Not even 1000 a month🤣
Why? Chinese cars are total rubbish.
If that's true, why EU is all over the place, worrying about the Chinese ev invasion. Threatening to impose higher tariffs to protect their own. No one in Europe including you will buy rubbish Chinese evs. Right?
No proper dealer network and high depreciation.
Just as Tesla wanted to avoid tarrifs others will. The difference is these Chinese all BEV makers are broke. None of them ever have made a dime. So dumping more investor money in European factories will just be a deeper whole to dig out of for profitability. Buying a factory now may be too late; it won't mean much if the company is bankrupt inside of a year. If these particular Chinese companies survive; maybe they can hire some European workers that understand QA. The most serious problems with Chinese cars is non existent quality assurance - that is a scientific system to assure quality; they don' t have it, quality is sad.
Europe can't even make high quality and profitable EV's like the Chinese BYD and Tesla. Legacy auto will all go bust and Europeans will be working for Tesla and Chinese ev manufacturers in Europe.
I am really impressed with the quality of my BYD Dolphin. It has a 5 star rating Euro NCAP.
BYD has better quality than most big auto OEMs now…BYD and Tesla going to buy up everyone…Chinese companies can’t compete in China but can in Europe if they buy a factory
@@yammybolo222 I do not think so there may be some others that are bad; but not Japanese, not ford, not Mercedes etc. Search BYD quaity on youtube- the videos are horrific. Electric Lightning right here reported RUST in the paint of new vehicles in Oz - who else does that? There are many vidoes of airbags not deploying in BYDs in real accidents; the other cars airbags worked - who does that? There is a video of the entire rear wheel assembly falling off - bad welds. Another showing the frame steel on their off road SUV - bends like taffy. It's a terrible company. Needs QA.
The problem with this world is that the intelligent people are always full of doubts, while the stupid ones are full of confidence.
Poet Charles Bukowski
Chinese EV manufacturers cannot be allowed to sell their cars in Europe or the United States of America. Recently when some disgruntled owners of Chinese EV’s, were going to drive their cars to protest in China. The manufacturer simply shut their cars off so they couldn’t drive to the manufacturers headquarters to protest. If there is an issue with Europe or with the US, the Chinese government can simply tell manufactures shut off all your EV in that country.
another BBC CNN fed 🤡 is here
Lol…nice fictional story. If true Tesla has same capability
You are a piece of work - Inventing anti China story. Wow you must get a pulitzer for this.
