as a game developer, that first assassins creed scene where the player shoots a npc is amazing. -Player aims the gun to the npc -there is a ray casting to detect if there is any object to interact with -the raycast returns that there is a npc type object in the range of the ray. -the game outlines the npc object. -sends a call to some method inside the npc object -the npc checks if he is facing a direction that in some range of degree the player character is. -if thats true, his method will make the npc go from walking to scared state. -every npc has its own way of detecting other npcs around them, probably with raycasting too. -the scared npc starts to check if there are any npc around him. -he finds a few -now, he sends the call to all of those npcs saying that he is scared. -the npcs start to check if the player character is close enough to them -they also check if they are facing the player. -if all that is true, they will change to scared state as well (the only one who pass this is the npc to the right) -The player shoots and there are a bunch of other things now, feedbacks like animations, sounds, camera shaking, light... all the npcs checking if they were close enough, and if they were, change state to run. Not in any direction but in a direction that dosent collides with the player char. So much in such small clip and such small detail of the game. Its incredible. This only shows how many people and teams were working. They probably had a team of people only for doing this.
How is it possible make a game so bad 10 years after they already knew how to make a good game. It's not even that hard to make npc's scared, but if it doesn't happen it really makes the game less immersive
Instead of using ray casting to get the other npcs, can you just use the list of the currently spawn npcs in a given scene and just query them by distance to the player and the npcs you’re aiming at? I feel like that’s gonna take much less time, but I’m not a game developer and don’t know how expensive ray casting is
@@eliodecolliyou still need to calculate the distance from each npc to the player and then check if the player is in the range. If you are doing this once every now and then it’s ok, but in games and situations like this, you need to do this hundreds of times per frame (imagine if you pc runs 100fps). Instead, you can use the raycast, which pretty much shoots a ray to a direction for a pre determined distance in a 3d world and if it collides with something it will do something, if not, it will get destroyed. By doing this you don’t need to calculate the distance between the player and each npc. You just shoot rays and wait for one to hit something. No calculation means more efficiency

These clips of the "stealth" gameplay in Outlaws never ceases to amaze me. I genuinely had no idea that AI could be that bad. The AI in Metal Gear Solid is better than this, and that was TWENTY SIX YEARS AGO. The AI in Outlaws is so bad it almost seems intentional.
The differences between the new games and the old ones can mostly be explained by the team change (you know that post that shows the new dev team composed by woky women in the most part). Indeed, in old games you could see realistic behaviours (animal killing, crowd panic with civilians, smart npc IA, etc.) whereas it has all gone with the new games (because it's not inclusive ? Or because it carries negative vibes ?).

I replayed Black Flag a few months ago and holy crap does it still hold up. It's impressive how it still looks pretty good. It's just depressing that they've never made a better one in all this time, Black Flag was the peak.
Meanwhile game consoles are costing 700+ USD now, the games costing 70+ USD, and their quality is worse than a Ps2 game. People gotta eventually just stop buying games at this rate.
Peak gaming has passed. There's a reason I play the Mass Effect trilogy, Oblivion, and Half-Life 2. Nothing has replaced these experiences, and the release I am most hyped about is not coming from one of the "AAA" studios - it's Skyblivion, which has been painstakingly built by a community of modders and players for almost 13 years. It also manages to look better than most games released in the past 5 years.
I don't buy this, first of all, there are still good games out there and second, yes, the big studios are in a slump nowadays because of the complacency but when there's still lots of money to be made (and there are) capitalism will reinforce quality products by itself. It's just a stagnant period because of the culture, complacency, lack of competence, but it won't last forever.
Meanwhile one of AC : Black Flag's tailing missions had you hunt and skin four crocodiles while trying to follow your target and hunt whales and sharks to upgrade your ship. In ACIII Connor used to straight up stab wolves in mid-air, wrestle with wild bucks, break wolverine necks with bare hands and have boxing matches with bears.
Storm troopers were the elite forces of the empire meant to capture not kill, thats why they always shot near the target to intimidate them in order to capture them, but in this game the storm troopers are just braindead
Having not played it, it seems that you only can kill "bad people". Yes, in a game called "outlaws". For crying out loud, LEGO Star Wars let you shoot the bystanders, and that would turn them hostile. A LEGO game!
What a dumb comment. This whole dei and woke stuff is incredibly boring and predictable. Companies can make terrible decisions when people making critical decisions are detached from the gaming experience. For instance, add more quest so the game takes x hours. Use the same formula as game x so we can release the new one quicker. A fare more common problem is people getting promoted due to their connections who are not qualified
And that's why only children and idiots defend this game, once upon a time it was possible to make games that were polished and fun to play And it's not the kids who write how do you know that the game is tragic if you haven't played it yourself
I’ve been saying this for a while now. Ubisoft games in general have been falling in quality year after year after year. And it’s first and foremost the “consumers” fault. Star Wars Outlaws was an unfinished, unpolished, broken upon release game that was sold for 70 dollars minimum and 130 dollars max. They deliberately sold an unfinished product; then they went and took the piss out of it by over pricing the damn thing. And they will continue to get away with this shit. Because they know that there will always be enough “consumers” willing to pay for this kind of hot garbage. People go out of their way to preorder and buy games like Outlaws and actively try to defend the game regardless of its quality. Why? Because it’s a notorious developer like Ubisoft? Because it’s the iconically famous Star Wars franchise? Ashamed to admit they wasted their money?Doesn’t really matter at the end of the day. Because at the end of the day, defending theses monstrously bad games will only encourage them to continue this unfair and greedy practice of selling low quality products for even bigger bucks. Now I’m not trying to ridicule or mock the people who bought the game either. If I like apples and hate oranges it doesn’t mean that I should just go around shitting on someone who likes oranges but not apples. But what Ubisoft is doing is akin to taking a bite out of the apple, dropping it in the dirt, and expecting us to sit with it and “consume.” And weirdly enough, a decent portion of consumers are blindly accepting and eating the nasty, stepped-on, spat-on apple. The message this sends to corrupt game developing studios like Ubisoft is that we’ll just take any shit they give us. And so, this has led to Ubisoft actively and noticeably dropping the quality of their games over the years. And if this cycle continues to happen, it will eventually create a future where we have to pay corrupt game studios 150-200 dollars for a “walking Simulator.”

So you can rest assured, despite how stupid the average consumer is, it seems they are more intelligent than what you feared and Ubisofts actions are reaping their just consequences.
Ubisoft executives are probably pushing for way more than the dev can handle but they also used to have great devs which were able to deliver a great product at the end of the day Then the devs left one by one as Ubisoft was pushing for too much while saying publicly they did not wanted white males in their 30/40s as their team (which was the crowd of dev who made them what they are) All devs were slowly replaced by college graduates who were chosen by who they were rather than what they can do Now Ubisoft executives are still pushing for more than what the dev can handle but this time the devs are simply not talented enough to at least deliver a good product

as a game developer, that first assassins creed scene where the player shoots a npc is amazing.
-Player aims the gun to the npc
-there is a ray casting to detect if there is any object to interact with
-the raycast returns that there is a npc type object in the range of the ray.
-the game outlines the npc object.
-sends a call to some method inside the npc object
-the npc checks if he is facing a direction that in some range of degree the player character is.
-if thats true, his method will make the npc go from walking to scared state.
-every npc has its own way of detecting other npcs around them, probably with raycasting too.
-the scared npc starts to check if there are any npc around him.
-he finds a few
-now, he sends the call to all of those npcs saying that he is scared.
-the npcs start to check if the player character is close enough to them
-they also check if they are facing the player.
-if all that is true, they will change to scared state as well (the only one who pass this is the npc to the right)
-The player shoots
and there are a bunch of other things now, feedbacks like animations, sounds, camera shaking, light... all the npcs checking if they were close enough, and if they were, change state to run. Not in any direction but in a direction that dosent collides with the player char.
So much in such small clip and such small detail of the game. Its incredible. This only shows how many people and teams were working. They probably had a team of people only for doing this.
attention to detail is a dying art
How is it possible make a game so bad 10 years after they already knew how to make a good game. It's not even that hard to make npc's scared, but if it doesn't happen it really makes the game less immersive
Instead of using ray casting to get the other npcs, can you just use the list of the currently spawn npcs in a given scene and just query them by distance to the player and the npcs you’re aiming at? I feel like that’s gonna take much less time, but I’m not a game developer and don’t know how expensive ray casting is
Im not a developer but im sure that its much simpler in case of these old games.

Visually is still a masterpiece (for me, was the best AC).
Or because it carries negative vibes ?).
also shoutout to black flag its a fucking amazing game to this day
It is, it's one of my favourites. I also loved Unity and all the others after it. But please don't forget there were videos like this one, pointing out their issues, downgrades and straight up poor design. Ah nostalgia.
This SW protagonist have the same swimming skills of Claude Speed and Tommy Vercetti
Water in Black Flag was one of the best, that's for sure.
They really captured those gorgeous Caribbean shorelines did they not?
It looks like some of the best water I've ever seen in a game.
at least the grass looks nice i guess, atleast we have that...
Most of developers who worked for Black Flag and Far Cry 3 pro doesn't work for Ubisoft anymore
I liked the lil "blip" as she fell in the water. Honestly the big lily pads on the water at 1:24 looked like it was leading up to a platforming segment like those old PS2 games like Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter. Back when video games were good
Uhm, but Jak can swim... 💀
I replayed Black Flag a few months ago and holy crap does it still hold up. It's impressive how it still looks pretty good. It's just depressing that they've never made a better one in all this time, Black Flag was the peak.
Fr, it really is crazy to think that's when they peaked.
Meanwhile game consoles are costing 700+ USD now, the games costing 70+ USD, and their quality is worse than a Ps2 game. People gotta eventually just stop buying games at this rate.
As long as there's gamers pre-order new game, Ubisoft doesn't give any f
I don't see people stopping any time soon, that's the real issue.
You know it's bad when they didn't even bother to implement a drowning animation.
don't be racist, women can't drown
Yeah why didn't they show Kay violently gasping for air and dying horribly being gobbled up and ripped apart by a Star Wars fish?
Exactly. Dying in water isn't really bad itself, it just looks compeletely unnatural the way it's shown in this, uh, game.
Mass effect trilogy 1 2 and 3 are one of the best games ever
Funny thing is I never played oblivion. I love Skyrim and I'm 100 percent playing skyblivion once it drops.
I'm here waiting for Skywind to release
The fact you can only pet the animals and not kill them tells all you need to know about modern Ubisoft devs.
To be fair: Children are unkillable in Skyrim, for example
But yes; a little odd to make animals and ALL bystanders/NPCs unkillable.
@@shyviking Probably too cheap to program ragdolls for them as well
Meanwhile one of AC : Black Flag's tailing missions had you hunt and skin four crocodiles while trying to follow your target and hunt whales and sharks to upgrade your ship.
In ACIII Connor used to straight up stab wolves in mid-air, wrestle with wild bucks, break wolverine necks with bare hands and have boxing matches with bears.
@@finkamain1621 That isn't how it works. You don't reprogram ragdoll physics over and over, that would be stupid.
@@finkamain1621 no they are just protected by the game , you can actually turn it off via mods .
even the graphics look better of the old games
The grass jumping was way too good 🤣🤣
0:33 to be fair, storm troopers being dumb and not hitting anything is quite accurate haha
Storm troopers were the elite forces of the empire meant to capture not kill, thats why they always shot near the target to intimidate them in order to capture them, but in this game the storm troopers are just braindead
now that you say it... i guess this is the way storm trooper in the game was suppose to be
Knocking out storm troopers by punching their helmet will always be hilarious
1 min von deinem Video hat mir wieder gezeigt warum ich schon seit Jahren keine Ubisoft / EA Games mehr Kaufe
00:28 Even the pig walks away.
They realized nowadays people buy stuff regardless of the quality
Only the drones.
They stopped hiring based on merit. Only identity.
Physics work differently in a Galaxy Far Far Away… so is survival instinct
so wait u never actually kill anybody in outlaws?
Having not played it, it seems that you only can kill "bad people". Yes, in a game called "outlaws". For crying out loud, LEGO Star Wars let you shoot the bystanders, and that would turn them hostile. A LEGO game!
@@ingenparks😂😂😂
The absurdity of your 'factually-truthful' statement says alot really...
What a superb example
Game is for ages: 6-11 years old.
They need to put that on the cover
That doesn't cover the fact you can't swim or even the poor AI when hiding in tall grass or ventilation systems.
ah ok, now it looks good. ty
That is insulting to kids ages 6-11
Most games now are made for a target player base. Little jimmies. Say age 9-12.
And they want $70 for that crap??!?
Sandy Cheeks: "I paid 110$!"
@@kodyshaw6991 I'm sorry.
2007: Wow, these crowds are massive and so realistic. I wonder how good they'll be in the future.
2024:
Even GTA 3's AI is more advanced
Remember, in AC Black flag water is wet
It's also extremely visually pleasing.
Damn..It's almost as if they stopped hiring people based on their talents and skills...
Nepotism rules america now
What a dumb comment.
I think nowadays games are focused on looking good instead of being good
And that's why only children and idiots defend this game, once upon a time it was possible to make games that were polished and fun to play
And it's not the kids who write how do you know that the game is tragic if you haven't played it yourself
Kids lose their shit over the customization in armoured core 6 because it was all free
And if this cycle continues to happen, it will eventually create a future where we have to pay corrupt game studios 150-200 dollars for a “walking Simulator.”
i like fruit. but when i go to the grocery store and see fruit being eaten away by crap i'm not buying it. Ubisoft used to put out great games. yeah they might ahve had a few logic issues but they were solid games and a ton of fun to play. that no longer exists
Look at Ubisofts stock. It's in decline since 2018. They are not meeting sales expectations anymore and if they continue like this they will go bankrupt. So you can rest assured, despite how stupid the average consumer is, it seems they are more intelligent than what you feared and Ubisofts actions are reaping their just consequences.
Ubisoft executives are probably pushing for way more than the dev can handle but they also used to have great devs which were able to deliver a great product at the end of the day
Then the devs left one by one as Ubisoft was pushing for too much while saying publicly they did not wanted white males in their 30/40s as their team (which was the crowd of dev who made them what they are)
All devs were slowly replaced by college graduates who were chosen by who they were rather than what they can do
Now Ubisoft executives are still pushing for more than what the dev can handle but this time the devs are simply not talented enough to at least deliver a good product
lol, if you think they’re getting away with it, you’re not paying attention at all. Their stock has been in decline for years. Between their failed single player titles and their ever-more woke R6 shooter, the next AC game might actually cause the studio to go under. They’re on the verge. They’re just dying the usual slow death that massive companies do. Relax.
Best comment so far - and there are a lot of good comments here!
It’s just back then it was more of a passion project and now it’s an industry that needs a product for a certain quarter .
they are especially evolving backwards since the dying the instant you hit the water is something i distinctly remember in AC1
