After driving three vintage station wagons, my favorite being my '66 Mercury Commuter station wagon, am once again obsessed with bringing another long limnbed beauty in my life
Wow, just a fantastic example of the very rarest body style! I've never seen that A/C before, either. Nice straight car, too... nice work. Thanks for the close-up of this beauty!
Wow i am breathless! What a find. I was a Dodge technician in the mid seventies. Love seeeing these great cars. Too many went to the crusher makes me sad. Really nice to see this car survived:)
I almost passed out from the beauty of this Dodge! So nice. Thanks for sharing. Growing up back in the day, driving a wagon of any kind was super uncool! lol
Cracking me up! Man I love and adore everything about wagons. But I’ve never seen a Polara like this! Those weird fin appendages are literally hilarious!! Thanks for the much needed laughs!
One of the few cars that actually looks better as a wagon than any other body style. The fins on the 2 and 4 door versions always looked like an after thought to me. On the wagon, they look perfect. Thanks for filming this BEAUTIFUL Mopar!
Wow. Just look at that! I’ve never seen this before. Didn’t even know it existed . Hard to believe how much Dodge put into these cars. The detail is just amazing. That is just a gorgeous piece of history. One of the very best station wagons I’ve ever seen. A work of art.
This is one of my very favorite Joyride episodes, and Charles is at his most ebullient! My other favorite is the red and white 1959 Buick LeSabre Station Wagon (loves me some space-age wagons!).
Yes, I had the feeling you were racing through this video. You talked of how extremely rare this car was, then hardly showed it to us. Disappointing… no mention of the interior doors or even a pan of them. Did the car have power windows or power seat? Swivel seats? Rare to see many options on a Dodge, but particularly factory air conditioning, and especially dual, rear air conditioning. Why no view of the engine compartment on this rare car? Would have loved to see the power plant. Would have been great to see how they divided the a/c lines to the 2 evaporators. Seems like so much was missed. A truly rare and gorgeous-style car! The owner can be very proud of this one!
The crisima details and footage of the American Classic Cars you shoot make your channel a joy to watch. Amazing how beautiful that Dodge Wagon was for its age.
We had one of these when I was a kid. It was exactly like this one, except it was a dark gray/silver color. BEAUTIFUL CAR with push-button transmission.
Dual air conditioning was almost a $700.00 option for these big wagons from Chrysler Corporation. Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth wagons and the Imperial LeBaron 4 dr Southampton were the only vehicles that offered dual air conditioning in the industry. This top of the line vehicle's MSRP most likely was about $4800 or more with this option.
does this wagon have a power tailgate window? If so, I’m assuming the key insert is behind the chrome panel that the camera pans in on. Would seem odd that such a well equipped example would not have an electric rear window - notice the first generation tailgate assist handles on either side of the rear window - another Chrysler Corporation exclusive.
@@727100bear The vertical rectangle is a crank. If it was a power window it would be horizontal with the keyhole in the center. Nine passenger wagons are supposed to have the power window standard. Did this car have a tail gate transplant at some time?
In Hitchcock's "The Birds", Tippy and some students take refuge in a 1960 dodge wagon during the crow attack. Not as optioned out as this model though.
Stunning, stunning, stunning! This is the most beautiful wagon I have ever seen. Dodge in 1960 really offered the customer a lot of value and style. This seems like it should be a Chrysler wagon, for all its luxury. When I was young and saw these on the road I thought, "just another over styled Mopar". I thought they were ugly. Fins had really gotten stale by then. Oh, how my perspective has changed.
That is a beautiful car. I seen quite a few Dart phoenixes, and Polaris is growing up, but never a 4 door hardtop wagon. Overhead air. Unbelievable I never seen a wagon back in the day and I’m 74 years old me and resting to know how many of them they made couldn’t be very many.❤
Love it, Charles! It could be a nice sister to our '61 Plymouth wagon, also hearse-black. However, your Dodge is nicer due to the hardtop body ( as you mentioned).
Bawhahahaha. My parents had one when I was a little kid. It was white with a light blue interior, an inline 6 cyl. engine and a 3 spd. on the column. I was only a couple years old but I remember that car well. Thanks very much for this video. Nice job and beautiful car.
Super Beautiful. Rare without question. We love your videos Charles. We are bringing back a 1964 Polara 500 back to life on our channel. Charles..if your ever in Pa...we want you to make a video of our car.
When I was a kid we had a Chrysler nine passenger New Yorker. It was a teal blue hard top wagon and the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. I can't remember if it was '62 or '64. My dad thought it was funny to tell people he paid $4,800 for a car that was 4800 Lbs., so he paid a dollar a pound.
That crazy Exner early 60s styling has really grown on me as those Mopars and I are now both in OUR 60s. Especially this hardtop wagon. What a sweetie...
Oh noes! Where are the views of the rear facing 3rd row bench seat? The kids want to know! Otherwise, another enjoyable ride down memory lane. Amazing car. Thanks Charles!
My grandfather had one , I just barely remember it. Used to sit in the back by the tailgate. He sold it in 1978.... who knows what ever happened to it..... that was in Humansville Mo.
Those are super rare. There is one similar to it here in Kansas City. However, air-conditioning is rare enough, but I have never seen the rear air-conditioner.
Cars back then had so much detail inside and out. Cars today are technology marvels but they have no class. I miss power antennas, vinyl tops, coach lights and wire wheel covers.
Surely you can't be serious! A 1960 Polara station wagon! Talk about Polara fever! I *love* the rumble of the engine. I *know!* I love the hub caps. I love the horizontal speedometer. I've heard of A/C, but *never* dual a/c. I *know!!* I *so* love it!!! :)
The optional dual AC was to get cold air to the third row (and some more for the second row too). Available in 1960-64 Chrysler product wagons with this body. Refrigerant hoses all the way from the front, another blower, evaporator - what the heck, just a couple hundred more pounds. Minivans and I guess other such vehicles have ducts down the sides of the roof and several vents, which is similar to some cars in the 50's with trunk AC only the other direction.
Well, Thanks, nice overview…. Lot of MOPAR WAGIN. Interestingly, my Parents ( and five Kids) had the 1959:**Dodge Coronet (?)/Wagon push buttons//Nine Pass/ loaded (** NO AIR CONDITIONING 😩that: had I lotto drive a lot in 1961-2 until My Dad found 1954/😩😩FORD/v8, Customized **with a1957;Engine 289 / 4 BBL!

Perfect late-50's house styling as a backdrop as well. Those wagons were just enormous. Beautiful car!
Beautiful car in amazing condition. These were fine cars. My parents owned a 1960 Polara 4 door sedan and it was a pleasure to travel in.
The right time of day to show it too. Early evening, the chrome is at it's best.

Charles! Not rare! Unobtainium!!!!
You are so lucky to see this in person !!!
Would love a longer video!!!
Love all your videos!!!
"Unobtainium." I like that.
As outdated as many of the 1960 Mopar products are, they're still gems, especially this one.
A magnificent monstrosity of metal moulding......Marvelous. WITH GLITTER!!!
I almost passed out from the beauty of this Dodge! So nice. Thanks for sharing. Growing up back in the day, driving a wagon of any kind was super uncool! lol
The fins are not excessively long as to be distracting. I like that. 1960 Dodges are the fine embodiment of elegancy.
We had a 1960 Dodge wagon when I grew up. Ours was the Matador, it had B pillars. This one is really cool.
Love your enthusiasm for this beautiful car! Thanks for sharing.
I really do enjoy these videos. Next time, let’s open up the tailgate and see that vast expanse of cargo space.
Deal!
That is the coolest wagon I've ever seen. So much detail you can't even describe
Amazing car! If they built them as beautifully styled today, SUVs would die off.
Cracking me up! Man I love and adore everything about wagons. But I’ve never seen a Polara like this! Those weird fin appendages are literally hilarious!! Thanks for the much needed laughs!
That reminds me of my deceased father, who backed up cars nicely. He would have loved getting one of those wagons brand new. Family car by far!
One of the few cars that actually looks better as a wagon than any other body style. The fins on the 2 and 4 door versions always looked like an after thought to me. On the wagon, they look perfect. Thanks for filming this BEAUTIFUL Mopar!

Thank you Charles, another beauty. I love four door hardtops. That roof line is very elegant.
We had a 1960 Seneca Dart sedan 318 with 3 on the tree. One of two cars I taught myself to drive. Other was a 58 Plymouth Suburban wagon
I've always had a thing for 50's -60's station wagons. Nice!👍🏼
This is one of my very favorite Joyride episodes, and Charles is at his most ebullient! My other favorite is the red and white 1959 Buick LeSabre Station Wagon (loves me some space-age wagons!).
Would have been nice to see more interior coverages of the door treatment, accessories, dashboard detail.

with dual air conditioning I’m sure it WAS cool!
I never was much of a Mopar guy, but this car is gorgeous.
Gurl bye! 'OMG! It has glitter!' gave me my entire life. Such a gorgeous car. Wow! I wanna sit in it just to experience the history!
Oh, I know". Must be your only known phrase and you say it soo sweetly. Gag. Sounds like steam escaping.

Me: Awesome video, Charles!
Charles: I knowwwwww 😄
Glad you liked it!
after viewing this unearthly spectacular vehicle, I realize all that I've worked for in the past 60 years amounts to nothing...

@emjayay For sure. All the literature I’ve read has always said that the nine passenger wagons came standard with the power tailgate.
$700 was a lot of money then. AC was such a rare option. This was a comfortable, beautiful, expensive car.
I really like it in black. Beautiful!
That is an amazing rolling piece of art
The coolest car I have ever seen! Love this era!
In Hitchcock's "The Birds", Tippy and some students take refuge in a 1960 dodge wagon during the crow attack. Not as optioned out as this model though.
Same model, different color. The wagon they took refuge in was a 4dr. hard top too!
One of my favorite movies of all time and THAT CAR... I was born in the wrong age. It was just a six year old used car when I was born.
Yeah great movie, all those crows ha. This wagon looks great in black like an executive limo.
Seems the Dart wagons were pillar roofed whereas Polara/Matador was 4dr hardtop..ht style last mfg 1964.

Nice job and beautiful car.
'60 was the finest of the Exner era Dodge models. Even the down-market Darts looked fabulous.
That Was a Beautiful Car ❤
Makes every other car on that street look like something you get free with a happy meal.
Fantastic, great car, my mom had a 65 Hardtop with Air, but that wagon !!!!!!
MOPARS AT THAT POINT IN AUTOMOTIVE HISTORY STAND HEAD AND SHOULDERS ABOUT THE REST FOR OUT OF THIS WORLD DESIGNS
The wagons actually wore that styling better than the sedans.
