    When I started collecting cars in 1973 the Greatest Generation was not able to see and appreciate the glory of the styling peak that took place from 57 to 61. Now we Baby Boomer can have our say about these cars. And what do we say ? Yes indeed these are the most beautiful ever built !

    Each car model was unique back then. Just for contrast look at a 1960 Corvair. Not even close to being similar. (I have a '65 Corvair). What a rich time for automotive sculpture!!! Styling is an understatement.

    Tragic! 890 Polaras were unrecognized as a timeless piece of art worth preserving!
    I guess people of that era thought that these magnificent cars would be crafted year after year forever.

    Exner cars are generally underappreciated. They may be out there, but everything is beautifully done and aesthetically balanced. This one is awesome. It was common then to think that a convertible didn't need AC, but Chrysler had an excellent integrated AC system and it's too bad IMO that this one doesn't appear to have it.

    I appreciate that you properly call them "wheel covers" rather than hub caps, which are the dog dish style ones. IMO every classic car should be wearing wheel covers rather than the poverty spec hub caps even if that's what it came with.

    A magnificent example of American style during that era. Although the intricate details were amazing, the cross-ram engine blew me away.
    Anyone know when and how long that engine was in production.

    • @67marlins
      @67marlins 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi TrackMan, I will research for you....but basically the ram-induction intake setup could be had in 383s and 413s. ( maybe a short-tube setup was also available on 361s.....? )
      I think Chrysler corporation division's cars offered ram induction from 1958 through 1963....but please- I ask Mopar experts to weigh-in.
      I like, grew up with and drove many great Mopars, but am more strongly a Ford aficionado.

    Gorgeous beyond belief! As much as I'd like to blame Detroit for stopping production of beautiful cars like this, the blame really lies with the consumers. Chrysler's top seller in 1960 was - believe it or not - the Plymouth VALIANT. Valiant was the smallest, ugliest car ChryCo ever made. Dodge Dart, a smaller, mousy version of the Polara/Matador, came in second. Chrysler came in a distant third. Hardly anyone bought full-sized Dodge in 1960, which is why they're so rare today.

      i'm afraid it was many women consumers who killed style by choosing the family car

    • @GLC2013
      @GLC2013 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@limelight8018 Yes you're right. Women were very peevish (then as now) about the flashy beauty of the design. They claimed the tailfins were so heavy they ruined mileage - ignoring the fact that the unibody construction made the cars hundreds of pounds LIGHTER. Today women still have the same eye-rolling condescension towards their husband's big flashy classic cars...

    The mirror-matic rear wiew mirror has nothing to do with the headlights.It automaticly shifts if the car behind doesn´t turn of the high beam so you don´t have his lights in your mirror.

    Needs a muffler. Desparately.

    • @emjayay
      @emjayay 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mufflers. The dual ram engine must have come with dual exhausts. The mufflers on this one may be more free flowing than the originals, but it also may be what that engine came with. They certainly aren't perforated or anything. The owner may have just wanted to hear a little more of the big V8 sound.
