Gunter - Charles has a natural way of inspiring appreciation and enthusiasm.... I know.... If I ever gain the nomination for Presidential candidate from my party.....I'm hiring Charles as my speechwriter!!!!!
Thank you, Charles. Your excitement is infectious. This Fury is just beautiful and I love that it is a four door hardtop. The roofline is a work of art and the paint scheme is so well chosen. And the finns, the finns, THE FINS!
The right hand drive 1960 and1961 Dodges and Desotos used that same 1960 Plymouth dash, in right hand drive form of course. Here in New Zealand, due to strict Government import regulations of the time, heaters and radios were not usually factory supplied on locally or even many fully assembled cars, but locally made aftermarket units could be fitted if an owner so desired. Instead of multiple push buttons for the heater controls, we just had two buttons for fresh air labelled "Air" and and "Off". Right hand drive versions had the indicator stalk on the left side of the column when it would normally be mounted on the right, but everything else on the dash was just a mirror image. My grandfather had a right hand drive 1961 Dodge Pioneer for many years, so that dash is very familiar.
I can hear Ronnie Yackle (?) of Yackle Bros Chrysler Plymouth in Southern California hawking this Plymouth on Saturday mornings in 1960 while watching Sky King.
Hi! Great, fresh take on presenting a classic car. Also, very cool of you to include the caution about old plastic and vinyl. 60 Fury is hard to beat for over-the-top, and your review captured that space age optimism and Marvin-the-Martian futurism that made these cars so unrepeatable. All the best from another car addict... cheers!
Hey Scott been following your Fury build since you dragged it outta that muddy field. An amazing craftsman you are. Been on a 60 Fury hunt for some time and very recently picked up a met blue/ white 4 dr. ht with all the fun stuff. p/w p/locks swivel seat pwr windows. Driving it around Daytona Beach.
9:18 The term JEWELRY is an actual word used by the car industry to this day to describe emblems, nameplates, hood ornaments and other shiny baubles on cars.
I totally agree with what Charles is saying about how to close a car door, by gently closing the door, as to not break the glass or knock the windows out of its tracks.
Clear steering wheel... 1960 Uncle Toby a Shell gasoline semi tanker driver owned one new which I saw first in the brightest sunlight on a baking hot day while exiting a big family wedding. Thank you for the memory and a look again at that masterpiece automobile...
I had a 1960 Fury 4 door sedan when I got out of high school. It had all the quirks you showed plus the drivers seat rotated for easy exit. We could pile about 10 people into that car. It was a ball. Wound up selling it when I got drafted. Sure fun to watch this video
Great job Charles Phoenix! You've taken your vids to another level. Mind you, I like the earlier stuff too. NIce enthusiasm and, as always, super informative. Behold the Glory ... or something like that.
LOL, I forgot all about "Not slamming the car doors". If only I had a dollar for every time my parents use to tell us not slam the doors... Btw: that steering wheel takes the cake. Niiiiiice!
The over the top/fin thing had actually sort of come and gone when these came out with styling referencing the 1957's, but in a totally new unit body structure. But as with all Exner cars, no matter how insane the styling was it was done perfectly. It was all perfectly balanced without anything a bit out of place and all just worked. He's right about the space age optimism. The other side of modernism in cars came next year with the 1961 Engel Lincolns - totally MidMod inside and out but buttoned down while being radical in a subtle way with the strictly linear and rectangular sides, streamlined body in between, and curved glass with the most radical tumblehome up to that point. Too bad the original owner cheaped out on the excellent integrated factory air and the power windows though. And that's the small V8, completely different from the larger and more modern ones offered. And yes I noticed another perfect MidMod house setting - and with a view!
The fins were on their way out, yes; but they hadn't "come and gone". Just look at the 1960 Cadillac, Chevrolet, Ford, etc. All still had fins in 1960.
We have one here in England that I see driving around my town ... It’s absolutely magnificent... The whole street stops to watch this masterpiece drive by ! And your video is just pure witchery ( magnificent )
dude!!!!! I hope your job is selling cars, because you are a FABULOUS salesman! I'd buy car from you in a flash!!!!! Love this car, b-t-w, it's absolutely marvelous!
Check out Cold War Motors for an impressive series of videos on one of these. Scott bought one that was rusting into the mud and rebuilt it on a donor Dodge's floorpan. He's still restoring and installing chrome and interior, but it's painted and it looks amazing.
I was 4 when I steered our new 59 Polara. Man, I have been hooked on the jet age inspired styling ever since. The gauges, the steering wheel, the fins, the colors 👍👍👍😎😎🇺🇸🇺🇸. That Fury is Epic👍😎😎😎. I loved this review👍👍😎😎. ....I Romberg that car find!
1960 must have been a time when anything was possible in America with a young JFK would later promise us the Moon. Charles you rock and I also love your mid century modern home.
Again another inspiring video from the king of Americana,(and that house!) in fact I am so motivated that I am posting my first land yacht, a fab 1960 Chrysler Saratoga that I happily drove for 4 and half years when it collapsed on Elvis's birthday and I sold it the next day to a waitress from Pasadena, on my Instagram feed now!
Pretty upscale looking vehicle for the low price field in 1960. Major competition was the Impala Sport Sedan and the Galaxie Town Victoria 4 door hardtop.
Weird, but so is the car. Well done. And, as one who remembers the days of its youth, these were by no means rare sights, in spite of the few which survive. This was one of the last cars needing vertical stabilizers and then tastes just moved on and most of the finned cars went onto ignominious ends in crushers. Even the engines were unwanted as more modern formats were introduced. But the big announcer's voice is just right for the fabulous Fury.
I like the mid-century architecture you frame the cars you feature with, Charles. IDK whether you're out of LA here or possibly Moon Valley in N Phoenix? Anyway, I've only recently stumbled upon your channel but I have to say, your enthusiasm and excitement is contagious! LoL
You sold me I'm heading now to my local Plymouth dealer to get one. Today I mistake one car for another . I have trouble distinguishing a Toyota, Honda, Kia , whatever . When I was growing up there was no mistaking a car brand for another. You knew what it was the moment you saw it coming down the road. Even from a distance. Not today they look pretty much the same. One jelly bean looks like another.
In addition to apperance, they all look like the old saying of Henry Ford is again in vogue with the manufacturers: "We can paint any color you desire, since that it is white, silver, gray or black"!
cameraman had a little trouble keeping up with Charles...who wouldn't? amazing car! the Fury is a UFO from outer space, and so glad its a 4door hardtop...each alien could have his/her/its own door. digging the house too...it looks like the mothership landed there from outer space too, in the LA hills.
America in the 60s was full of pride and presentation. Attention to every detail. Bang for your buck. While I love my Honda Civic Si, I feel let down knowing that if I was born 80 years ago I could’ve owned this at my age haha. Awesome
We are having a great life, no COVID 19. The most attractive four door car in 1960. Obviously the bright trim and fabrics help. The Plymouth Fury was built for warm weather states, obviously the farther you lived from salt water the better. These melted away in northern states and in the provinces of Canada, except for Alberta.
Simply fabulous really elegant design. Of course its over the top but the design is beautifully flowing and harmonious. They must have lost money on every car sold. What a bargain. That rear window wow! And filmed in the perfect SoCal 1960s home with the perfect view. Yes dream and dream large... and Charles does this beautifully
Had one of these in '65. 2door, but, exact same color scheme, my last year in HS I will never forget that square steering wheel.
Expert Exner Excellence! The most beautiful Plymouth ever built!
Exactly!
What a car , WHAT A PRESENTER !
I think this my favorite car face. Just furious! The attention to details in these classic cars is amazing. Fantastic home and view.
Good ol Virgil Exner design with the "Forward Look" I love it
The 1960 Plymouth were not on my favorite cars list, BUT that just changed ! What an amazing presentation
Thank you Charles !!
Glad you liked it!

Your like my TWIN brother (that I don’t have lol) when it comes to getting EXCITED over a BEAUTIFUL classic car! You are the BEST! ❤️❤️
Awesome! thank you !!!
No one can describe a classic car like Charles can, I knowwwwwww!
In UK they would be dragging him off in a straitjacket!
Makes me laugh 😁 He's the Best Definitely 😁😏
dressed in an orange shirt and white shoes and those gestures..gay as a flippin bird. Liberace would be jealous.
We're all adults here, so lets come out and says it. We are all wondering what Charles is like in bed.
Charles’ presentation is “ over the top” .. just like the styling of this car.
Born in 59 . Yeah baby the space race and making cars look like spacecraft!
Finest Expression of the Forward Look. Beautiful Shark FINS. Thank You Virgil Exner for creating the most fabulous cars that ruled the road 😊🎉❤.
I just found this channel and can't stop watching!!! I've never seen anyone describe in detail a car or anything like Charles does!!
Somebody really loved that car and took very good care of it. What a car!
I have a great new respect for the 1960 Plymouth. What a magnificent car! Thanks Charles for sharing your enthusiasm!
Thank you, Charles. Your excitement is infectious. This Fury is just beautiful and I love that it is a four door hardtop. The roofline is a work of art and the paint scheme is so well chosen. And the finns, the finns, THE FINS!
I LOVE your energy and passion for beautiful MSM Detroit automobiles. Thank you!!

That house in the background is amazing.
Charles, You have such a passion and enthusiasm, Bring so much joy!
Great presentation. Thanks, you had six of your fine "I know" catchphrases..
This guy is hilarious and has so much energy! I need to take a nap after watching this video. He wore me out!😴😴😁
I love love this car! The way you describe it is the best ever! You need to do TV commercials!! Totaly awsum!!!
He's a total phag and the doors are wrong;

This guy is more enthusiastic about his car than my parents were about my birth
You can choose your friends and even your car, but you can't choose your relatives.
I was 14 in 1960 i remember the attitude at that time. Charles you're insight into time and people is amazing
Not only am I completely entertained, I learn so much from your commentary. I KNOW!
Such a beautiful car! Absolutely stunning and I love your enthusiasm and passion 💖
Love your enthusiasm. Awesome car.
Thanks!
Mom had a 60' Fury. It was two tone red and white . Badass
What have we lost? Regard the Glory!!!!! Never seen a presenter so excited about his subject! Great video!!
This is one of your best!
love the way you present the car to the audience. you are good!
"How much do we love glitter?" Lots and lots. Charles is an extremely likable guy.
Absolutely! You have to admit that is the most outrageous steering wheel in the history of anything that steers
I had a 1960 Fury 4 door sedan when I got out of high school. It had all the quirks you showed plus the drivers seat rotated for easy exit. We could pile about 10 people into that car. It was a ball. Wound up selling it when I got drafted. Sure fun to watch this video
Great having ELTON JOHN simply LUVIN' these CAR NUMBING DESIGNS!!!! Seen the last of MOST 1960 cars by 1974/76= a good 14/16 year run☆☆☆☆
Fabulous car! Obviously you appreciate the aesthetic beauty! Thx for sharing! Great video work as well!
"Don't touch that dash." Touches dash. "Don't touch that headliner." Touches headliner. How about that gorgeous house? Total class.
I was thinking the same thing about the property looks like the same era as well
I just can't get enough of Charles Phoenix JOYRIDE!!!!
I know!

I'm dying. There must be twenty or thirty of us who want to meet Charles for cocktails in SoCial!!
I’m in Florida and I would fly to SoCal just to have drinks with Charles. Love this guy!
Great job Charles Phoenix! You've taken your vids to another level. Mind you, I like the earlier stuff too. NIce enthusiasm and, as always, super informative. Behold the Glory ... or something like that.
5:34 That dashboard is just out of this world!!!!
This car is fantastic!
Madness on 4 wheels, two legs too. Keep 'em coming Charles.
LOL, I forgot all about "Not slamming the car doors". If only I had a dollar for every time my parents use to tell us not slam the doors... Btw: that steering wheel takes the cake. Niiiiiice!
The best of the best, Charles Phoenix!!! I have you on FB, Insta, and obviously YT!!!! You rock!!!
I *know!* So do I! I love how he talks about the cars he features in his videos. 🙂
Man you rock!…..and that car !

Charles, you are through the roof showing us this car. That's 'cause you bought it, didn't you.........I KNOWWWW.
🤣🤣🤣
I’m 70 and I never heard vertical stabilizers. Unfortunately I’ll never forget it.
I had a 1961 Valiant with the trunk lid bulge - that was a classy car.
Check out Cold War Motors for an impressive series of videos on one of these. Scott bought one that was rusting into the mud and rebuilt it on a donor Dodge's floorpan. He's still restoring and installing chrome and interior, but it's painted and it looks amazing.
You beat me to the punch re: CWM's 1960 Plymouth, which is a two door.
This is an AMAZING EXAMPLE of the 1960 Plymouth Fury Hardtop Sedan!!! I KNOWWW!!!!
The greatest car review I have ever witnessed. And my name is Charles.

@@_charlesphoenix I know!
No such thing as a 59 Polara. 1960 was the first year, of course the 60 model year started in September of 1959
Chrysler Corporation sure had some crazy designs in 1960!
1960 must have been a time when anything was possible in America with a young JFK would later promise us the Moon. Charles you rock and I also love your mid century modern home.
I really love this car . And a fine example
Amazing cars. Fun to watch.
That car looks unbelievably good 👍
OMG This guy is so funny...love these videos, I bet he is a very successful salesman LOL, or a comedian😁😁😁
God Charles, no one makes me laugh like you do! You could sell me a car in a heartbeat!!!! Once I stopped laughing!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Can't believe this channel wasn't proposed to me by TH-cam before. This guy is awesome!
love your energy man! keep up the top work.
I love your enthusiasm! You made me more appreciative of 50's and 60's Mopars. And I live near Detroit where many of them were made.
Wow, thank you!

Notice the Civil Defense markings on the AM radio. Not everything was carefree back in mid-century. I know...
Every time I watch one of your videos, I want you to come to my house and do a video on my 1963 Impala..

This is the last year for beautifully curved vertical stabilizers. I know 😌
Love your "UP" clips. You do an excellent job, fascinating and funny too. ... I know😉👌.
Chrysler would have sold more cars in 1960 if Charles had been their spokesman.
"I got me a Chrysler, it's as big as a whale, and it's about to set sail!"
I wish he would tell us how he really feels about the Plymouth. And he is not wrong.
