I spent so many days in the backseat of my aunt's 1960 New Yorker station wagon. Never, ever will there be better memories, or a better station wagon. That Astro Dome was so cool, and I thought that pushbutton trans was the greatest thing. Thanks for the terrific memory.
My ten year old daughter and I are huge fans of this series. She loves classic cars of the 50’s and 60’s just like dear old dad. She loves you as well Charles! Keep up the fine job you are doing. You are bringing the newest generations in to the Mid-Century fold. Thanks you good sir!
armedinbama oh she’s ready to start doing that with me. She wants her first car to be something from the 50’s or early 60’s. *sniff* makes me so proud. 😁
Now, if only my dad had bought one of these instead of the stripped-down, bare-bones, mud brown 1960 Ford Ranchwagon we could've been the coolest family on the block!
What a rare gem!!! I love the hardtop styling, the fins, the boomerang taillights, I love it all! Thanks Charles, for a look at this mid century classic ☺🤣🙃
I think other car makers used that (or similar) term, too. My '54 Ford (also a station wagon) also has an AstraDome speedometer display. With my Ford it refers to the display being backlit by natural light.
@@kayeninetwo3585 Clear tinted dome on the back side, same as in the 1955 Ford and Thunderbird. The Astradome is on the front and the instruments make a landscape under it. So, a different thing.
Oh yes....Charles has found an amazing, georgeous treasure this week....with cruise control?!?...In 1960!...I didn't know!!! 🤭...But now...I Knnooowww !!..😎
Fantabulous presentation Charles, fins that start just after the ‘A’ pillar, the way it should always be!!! Beautiful buttercup yellow with white roof And a HARDTOP wagon...... it’s almost too much.... oh, did I mention 9 passenger, cruise control and Golden Lion 413, I’m just twenty-six Years too late...... well done buddy.... keep ‘em up... love the ‘rolling’ video presentation - you own that!
what a knockout. Back in the late 70's, a friend and I drove a '60 Chrysler Windsor convertible from Seattle to Lake Tahoe, towing a little Shasta trailer. same crazy-ass taillights and that spectacular dashboard. did not have that ground shaking 413 that this wagon has, tho. I think ima gonna go with the wagon over the droptop...there's just so much 'there', there.
Never have I seen Power Door locks (Vaccume, I know) on a 1960 Mopar. Early Cruise Control. wow. My 1973 Fleetwood had Cruise and it was all over the place with speed. Can’t imagine 1960. What a Beauty!
Lovely. Beautiful color and styling. I’m so glad you like vintage wagons, the way Americans got around for so many years...this Joyride gets an “A”, students!
What an amazing find! So glad to have someone who features the cars we remember but never see anymore. Our car history is so much more than tri-five Chevys, Mustangs and Corvettes! Thank you, Charles!
I really enjoy many of your station wagon videos. Back in the day, no one saved wagons, often parting them for two door coups and convertibles. I love the wagons, as I grew up riding in them. Dad had a 59 Chevy Parkwood that I loved.... he traded it for a 66 Ford Country Sedan, the 66 was traded for a new 72 Ford Country Squire..... that he owned until 2002, when a friend of mine bought it.... it was still like new! I subscribed to your channel.
Wait, wait...New Yorker. Town & Country? I'm confused. That aside, this is a fabulous wagon. Those taillights are brilliant! Astrodome instrumentation alert! This is a super deluxe car with fantastic details all around. Such a great balance of jet age and civilized, every day luxury. It may be rare but it's also extremely...well done.
From 1951-65 you could have 2 trim levels of Chrysler wagon, Windsor (later Newport) T&C or New Yorker T&C (except 52, when it was a Saratoga). Except for 52, when the Roadmaster topped it by a few dollars, the NY T&C was always America's most expensive production wagon.
Another day, another great car! And that rear facing back seat! I remember being ill many times as a kid while riding backwards for hundreds of miles in our Dodge wagon. THOSE WERE THE DAYS!
Another terrific video Charles, thank you!! All of your videos have been absolutely dynamite!! Love all of these cars!! Styling back then was magnificent!! Nothing looked exactly the same, but everything looked absolutely gorgeous. Everything (at least to me) is a work of art
I've come to appreciate Chrysler products from the mid 50s to early 60s alot more than I did when I was younger. As a kid I favored what my parents and relatives drove, which was GM mostly.
Oh my goodness! Like a big sunflower...bright, happy, yellow, fun! Charles I believe these cars follow you home like lost little puppies that need to be cuddled! What a fun car and as "use"...awesome commentary that just leaves my big dumb mouth agape!😃
Spectacular! I have always loved pillarless hardtop 4 doors, but on a wagon, *chefs kiss!* And that Astrodome instrument cluster, wow. Also, in the current zeitgeist, that pattern at 2:29 may not be atomic, it almost looks like the virus, ha.
A lot of people think the 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Series 62 was the first car with available cruise control, but it was actually Chrysler in 1958 who first brought the technology to market. At the time it was revolutionary. To be able to get on to the freeway, flip a switch, and take your foot off the accelerator while the car kept going was absolutely mind blowing to people back then. It was a step towards full automation that we are seeing today in modern cars.
I had one, 1960 windsor 4 door, black with mint green interior and off course the golden lion 383 you know some of the trim pieces where made of brass. I miss that car thanks for posting.
Doesn't this car make today's SUVs and Crossovers look boring? Actually, it doesn't require a comparison to this New Yorker. They just look boring no matter what. Today's vehicles look much the same *Yawn*. Thank you Charles! This was the first of your videos that I have seen, and it was a blast🚀 😄
Sir I had too subscribe after watching this is video! Not only because I enjoy being able to see a pristine Imperial station wagon. But not once did you remark about it's size or use cheesy references like couch on wheels, or the loathsome "land yacht"! Hope to check out more of your videos. American classic cars in my opinion best in the world!
I. Tried to save all the Chrysler wagons. Out of a wrecling yard IN Teachapi Ca. My buddy said No. Ugh. 😢😮most got Crushed. Chrysler s everywhere. In that junk yard
Reminded me so much of Tucson, or is it Phoenix metro? Nice overview. A high school friend inherited a 2 door '60 300 from his grandfather, think it had 3000 miles on it, either way I remember the astrodome speedometer. Beautiful car, don't know where it ended up (at the time I had a '60 Electra 2 door) all back in 1976.

Thank you for instilling the love of old iron in a new generation! Be sure to teach her how to weld and paint, too! 😉
armedinbama oh she’s ready to start doing that with me. She wants her first car to be something from the 50’s or early 60’s. *sniff* makes me so proud. 😁
Omg it's gorgeous. I 💛 station wagons. Brings me back to my childhood 😁
What a car, I love it! Four door hardtop station wagon. SOOOO COOOOL! New Yorker, that you have arrived!
Now, if only my dad had bought one of these instead of the stripped-down, bare-bones, mud brown 1960 Ford Ranchwagon we could've been the coolest family on the block!
LOL!
Mopar fans, feast your eyes on this bad boy! I know! I love the taillights! Thanks for the ride, Roger. 🙂
Jason Carpp did you notice the pickup in the driveway? Willing to bet roger is the owner
@@michaeladamo1188 It might be. Charles should ask Roger if he can show us the truck in a later video. 🙂
Thanks for wonderful memories.
SO BADASS AND SO BEAUTIFUL!!!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
What a rare gem!!! I love the hardtop styling, the fins, the boomerang taillights, I love it all! Thanks Charles, for a look at this mid century classic ☺🤣🙃
My pleasure!
The beast from beyond time! Oh how I wish cars like this were still built. Thank you Charles.
Chrysler sure had the best looking cars in the 50s and 60s. This sort of reminds you of the 64 to 66 Thunderbirds in the front.
Glorious!
Best looking 1960 wagon by far.
I love 60 New Yorkers and 300s! Beautiful
Had me at AstroDome instrumentation (being from Houston & we still have the AstroDome) Also back when families filled up those stations wagons! LOL!

Too bad you couldn't take a ride after dark. Those bubble dome dashes are unbelievable beautiful with their blue lights.

Mother MoPar actually intruduced speed control in 1958.

I do recall electric door locks on some 1959 Imperials. Also recall rear air conditioning on Mopars.
Lovely. Beautiful color and styling. I’m so glad you like vintage wagons, the way Americans got around for so many years...this Joyride gets an “A”, students!
Thank you so much!
That is soooooooooo cool, defiantly a wagon I would love to own!! 👍😍🙂

These Chrysler wagons were simply ENORMOUS!!
Great, great, great automobile !!!
The end of the Virgil Exner styling revolution.
BEYOND Incredible!!! it is a National treasure to behold!
The Smiling bumper made me smile and also the interior fabric looks like Coronavirus cells😁😷
🙌. Way to be, Charles!!!🙌
So glad you're showcasing these midcentury gems! Thx!
More to come!
Excellent shooting location as always. Phoenix's historic Country Club Park.
Wow, I had a 61 Newport wagon back in the late 60's. The goods we had back then.
thats one sharp ride
Great format👍😬
It's almost too much to bare. Sooooo atomic! Love the tail lights and that astrodome Dash! I Knooooow.
Wait'll you see that dash lit up at night.....panelescent lighting.
Google it when you gey a moment.
Just wow... and early cruise control. I just can't. And that pale yellow. And the interior accent upholstery. It's just toooooooooooooooooooooo much!

Cruise control in 1960. Cool!
1960 Crhysler... Perhaps the ultimate statement in fins? I knooowww. The convertible version is a space cruiser!
And now for something new and exciting! YES! Also engine footage. What a extraordinary beauty! Great job!!!
Thank you very much!
My dad had a Chrysler Newport convertible with that instrument cluster - it glowed green in the dark with the headlights on. Choice!
DEFINITELY a work of art. Thanks.

@@joeseeking3572 I know, I was just making a joke because "New Yorker" and "Town and Country" seem at odds, just based on the name ;)
