    By far this is the best video on TH-cam for the OSMO PLUS. Well done

    Still a great device in 2022 ,have the new osmo pocket two but just love using the old osmo as it feels so much better to use although the pocket two does produce better video as to be expected .Was mentioned on video about the photo quality ,this device is mainly built for video not photos ,i would not use this device o take photos. With a bit of colour grading in resolve studio 17 get some amazing results with the old osmo. Considering it only has a small sensor it still takes fairly good video indoors. All said and done a great review and well explained

    Perfect video and perfect camera.
    I live in Azerbaijan. I found this Dji Camera, I want to buy it, but I was wondering if it is possible to connect it to a monitor with any cable without a phone?

    Good review. One that also talks about the negative sides! I like this camera and would really like it to work! But you forgot:You will have to use an expensive U3 card for 4K or even 2.7K otherwises video and audio are not synchronized! Second it generates 4GB files and between each file there is a gap of 1.30 sec. This is a no go! Third as you mentioned gimbal movement - I had a conversation with dji and they did not believe it at the beginning so I sent them footage. Then a month ago they came with a firmware upgrade that did not solve the problem. Problem no tripod mode in gimbal settings.
    4th problem low bitrates for 4K and especially full HD (just 15Mbs!!!) And then as you mentioned inconsistency with good footage. 70% of the footage is not crisp or out of focus. And last not least bad lowlightor semi low light footage. If it is not completely bright your footage is out of focus or as you stated not crisp.

      I had so many bad points on this product I didn't include the ones you mention. Yes, the footage loss between the video files is bad, I think all DJI drones do this too. The audio sync problem occurred on all cards I used, however I found it to be an encoding fault and using Premier Pro CC 2017 fixed this. What I didn't say in the video is this was my 2nd unit as the first was riddled with faults and so I sent it back, the 2nd was better but still overall no good for pro video or photo work.

      +Boondocking Bears I suggest buying in store and fully testing before buying. Or use my Amazon links and then it's easy to return if faulty.

    Thank you, I thought I'd try it out once again after using the new mobile one and I just can't seem to get the right exposure or light or colour grading in camera when recording. I thought it was something I was doing wrong but your review suggests otherwise. Shame, a bit disappointing.

    Hi John. Thank you for your expanded and very good review. I did some pictures on my Osmo plus too and have to say that I didn't experience any clearenes and sharpness problems. Are you sure that you removed the protection transparent sticker form the camera lens? Not trolling, just seriously asking... :(

    • @GadgetJohn
      @GadgetJohn  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's fine, it's always ok to ask silly questions. As I said in the video this isn't the first product, i returned the earlier one. I have also since had a 3rd, which was slightly better ad I made an updated review about it and the accessories you can get for it.

  • @ChadJay
    @ChadJay 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I experienced the same wacky app disconnects between a samsung S7 and an ipad mini. I had to do a reset on osmo to fix it. This resets the osmo wifi back to default. All was good after that.

  • @NicolasRaimo
    @NicolasRaimo 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Did you notice the sound went out of sync the longer the video you filmed?

    • @GadgetJohn
      @GadgetJohn  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I honestly didn't get to see that, one things I did see was the longer videos were split into files and there was at least 2 seconds missing between the files, meaning in some important videos I lost content, like interviews or general video footage. I ended up sending 2 of these back in just a matter of days, the first due to the audio noise and the 2nd due to the fact this is just not a video recording device you can rely on - even if you wanted to record your kids on vacation!

    • @NicolasRaimo
      @NicolasRaimo 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wanted it to record for my channel, how long did these videos record for until they were split? would you say save my money and buy the DJI mobile gimbal instead? Would that future proof me if I changed phones that's what am worried about.

    • @GadgetJohn
      @GadgetJohn  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The DJI Osmo Mobile is a really great device, however it's still heavily dependant on your smartphone. If you wanted to produce smooth video of cars, or car interior shots etc. then I'd say you need a really decent smartphone, but be warned the iPhone 7 won't work well with the DJI Osmo Mobile due to the iPhone 7 camera stabilisation. IF you truly want good 4k smooth video form a gimbal then get a good 4k camera and the Zhiyun Crane. It's what I now use and it's fantastic. IF you check out my recent videos you'll see some on which is the best 4k camera and also the Zhiyun Crane.

    • @NicolasRaimo
      @NicolasRaimo 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that will take me well out of my budget, currently am just filming using my Iphone6Plus are arms length so anything is a great improvement my channel only started a month ago and am seeing HUGE surge of Views and Subs so I think I should invest but I found DJI Osmo Plus for £525 and the DJI osmo mobile for £225, I am kinda of Video Vlog type of channel. Starting to wish I didn't start looking into gimbals its a mind field! Your channel is great by the way non biased reviews!

    Hello Gadget John, do you have a video on OSMO+ for FACEBOOK lives? Cheers, Robertt

  • @samdogdigital
    @samdogdigital 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Osmo+ cameras are meant to smooth out motion. Not lock down a static shot when sitting still. Hence the minor drift. As far as focus goes, if you tap the screen to focus the results are quite crisp. As for the washed out look, you can change to various scene settings. If I'm being lazy, I'll set it to vivid.

    • @GadgetJohn
      @GadgetJohn  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, As I said in the video, the movement ruins timelapses and the osmo is meant to produce really good timelapses. As for the focus, as you can see from the video, I do tap where I want to focus but the camera just doesn't always focus perfectly.

    • @leewarner8843
      @leewarner8843 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I use the Osmo+ primarily for video capture however I understand your frustration with timelapse although I've had fairly good results. I've just read several reviews from users that tried to stick the Osmo on a tripod and statically record their kid's school play and complain about the drift. Wrong tool for the job. I'm in the video business in Canada and can remember when steadicam rigs cost $65k CDN (without the camera). The Osmo isn't perfect, however I am overall pleased with the results I get for under $1k.

    Is there a way to wire connect the phone to the Osmo thereby bypassing the wifi? I do this with my Spark. The remote is to be connected to the phone via wifi but I use a cable and get a much better non lagging crisper image.

    • @GadgetJohn
      @GadgetJohn  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Hummingbird.UAV There’s not, the only way to connect is via WiFi, Samsung phones seems to be worse at connecting that iPhones. Not tested with any other brands though, has anyone else?

    Great review thanks; I’m just starting out with my Outdoorsman Dave brand here in New Zealand and find using my DSLR too shaky for recording my tramping adventures. Do you think the Osmo is small, light and robust enough to go tramping with or is there a better option? Budget is limited.

    Thank God I watched this... Totally not what I would've expected on a prosumer device! The only reason to buy this basically is to separate camera and viewfinder for very low/high shots... But with that camera you might as well go with a Ronin and use your own DSLR

    • @GadgetJohn
      @GadgetJohn  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you watched my more recent review? It’s a fresh look at the camera and accessories, it might change your mind. On its own the Osmo isn’t great, but used with some creativity & accessories it becomes a really good production tool.

      +Gadget John So I looked at that video now and it does talk about all the accessories, but it doesn't talk about improvements in the camera. Is it still as bad as the current video suggests? From what I believe the accessories can't take away the drift in video over time or the sound problems or the white washing of pictures. Has there been any updates on that?

    • @GadgetJohn
      @GadgetJohn  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you think the footage in the new video was better that the footage in the original review video?

    @ChalkandIron 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I regret buying this. I bought the Pocket version but now I realize I have no way to even attach my phone. So I have to buy all these accessories. Seems like they need to markup their product so it at least comes with the necessary goods so I am not shopping for a dozen other parts.

  • @tamasvarga67
    @tamasvarga67 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great review and it confused me in my decision to buy it or not... I was on the "buy it" side after watching couple of reviews but after yours I don't want to risk it. I want something that works I don't want to get something then send it back etc. I wonder if the problems are the same using it with iPhone as it seems in general dji softwares are more optomized for ios. I really like the concept of the Osmo + and there is nothing similar on the market so it gives me some headache...

    • @GadgetJohn
      @GadgetJohn  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The phone is mostly just a viewfinder/monitor so the real issues here are with the Osmo itself. It is such a shame, I had high hopes for this too.

    • @boredcat7

      Wow sounds bad I guess Ill stick to using a gimbal and phone combination. Too bad I wanted to pair it with the Z axis kit to get that gliding footage

    • @GadgetJohn

      The Z axis extension does look really cool, but phone cameras are so good these days that I'd spend the money on a Z axis for your mobile phone gimbal instead.

    Does the camera have a follow focus feature?

    • @GadgetJohn
      @GadgetJohn  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      DJI Go app doesn’t but you can use Vertical Studio to follow your movement. I take you meant follow me and not follow focus?

    • @pickthispet7968
      @pickthispet7968 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the reply. Sorry, I was not clear. I have several questions. Depending on the type of video camera you have you can either have cameras see a face in front and automatically focus on that. Other cameras you have to tap on the spot to focus. From the reviews I have seen the DJI Osmo+ required you to tap. Does it "see" a subject and automatically focus on it? Once focused on a person in frame, what happens if you walked towards the camera? Does the camera's focus track you? Finally, what happens if you are the target and walk out of frame? Will the camera automatically turn to keep you in frame?

    • @GadgetJohn
      @GadgetJohn  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Osmo has interchangeable cameras, but the Osmo mobile has extra features like follow mode that the Osmo doesn’t have. But you can get extra software as I said in my other reply. It’s a handheld gimbal, not a dedicated video camera, so it doesn’t have the follow focus. But you can get extra apps that do this.

    FYI, it's not really a good comparison between Osmo mobile and Osmo plus camera. 1. you are using an S8 phone that has a good camera hence the quality is better than Osmo plus built in camera. SO I guess you should compare it with the first version of Osmo plus. (y)

    • @GadgetJohn
      @GadgetJohn  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is the OSMO +, there is only one version. My comparison not like-for-like it's merely to give an idea of how much better a cheaper camera is! I compare a £700 camera (DJI OSMO +) to a £700 smartphone with built-in camera (Samsung S8+). IF a smartphone is better than a dedicated camera then that really says something.

    • @mayope
      @mayope 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      well, there is an earlier version which is called DJI Osmo (non 4K version) which will make more sense to compare camera output quality. (y) other than that, I guess the rest is software based ;)

    • @GadgetJohn
      @GadgetJohn  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is the OSMO + (plus) whereas the old version was just called OSMO and didn't have a Zoom but was full 4K. The original version also had a longer focal length making it no goo for close up shots or vlogging.

    • @GadgetJohn
      @GadgetJohn  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Steve, my iPhone and Galaxy S8 both seem to work this out themselves in the back ground, so I can connect to the internet via 3G/4G and to the OSMO over wifi.

    • @stevenguyen292
      @stevenguyen292 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      My Note 8 seem not working because when I connect to the Osmo and it required Osmo update then it fail because no Internet connection so I have to switch the wifi to home wifi then it down load the update but when it go to install I have to switch back to Osmo wifi . It is not design like the My Gear 360 cam from Samsung where it let you connect 2 wifi as once.

    • @GadgetJohn
      @GadgetJohn  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've not heard of any phone able to connect to more than 1 wifi network at a time. The connection wifi connection is dependant on your phone, the osmo or gear 360 has no ability to connect to other networks. Your update settings might be set that you can't update apps over 3G /4G and only over wifi which is why you have to switch between wifi connections.

    I bought one and now 100% regret.
    Doesnt works with all android devices. Now appears a black screen even using Iphone and no one can solve the problem. Their customer service is the worst in the earth. So dissapointed...

      +David Gonzalez DJI are not great at communicating with their customers, however, once you are able to contact them they do resolve problems quickly.

    One friendly advice: dont do that "shrap shrup" sound with your mouth. It is really annoying on the ear phones.

      You're right, that's why I went into all the bad parts and don't recommend people buy it. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    that is a big pice of crap, not reliable at all. plus you get a lot of problems with corrupted files and some clips will crash premiere while trying to render. wouldn't recommend this to anyone
